MetaCore is a flexible DSP core in that the architecture of MetaCore can be modified easily by changing the hardware parameters. To fully exploit the merits of a flexible core, the system software must be reconfigurable when the target architecture changes. In this paper, we present a re-configurable system software for a flexible DSP core and the architecture selection procedure called $quot;compile-simulate-refine$quot; cycle using the re-configurable system software. The $quot;compile-simulate-refine$quot; cycle can make it possible to select the best architecture for a given application by exploring the possible candidate architectures in short time.

<P>Neuronal damage subsequent to transient cerebral ischemia is a multifactorial process involving several overlapping mechanisms. Gangliosides, sialic acid-conjugated glycosphingolipids, reduce the severity of acute brain damage in vitro. However their in vivo effects on the cerebral cortex damaged by ischemic infarct are unknown. To assess the possible protective role of gangliosides we examined their expression in the cerebral cortex damaged by ischemic infarct in the rat. Ischemia was induced by middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion, and the resulting damage was observed by staining with 2, 3, 5-triphenylterazolium chloride (TTC). High-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) showed that gangliosides GM3 and GM1 increased in the damaged cerebral cortex, and immunofluorescence microscopy also revealed a significant change in expression of GM1. In addition, in situ hybridization demonstrated an increase in the mRNA for ganglioside GM3 synthase. These results suggest that gangliosides GM1 and GM3 may be synthesized in vivo to protect the cerebral cortex from ischemic damage.</P>

<B>BACKGROUND.</B><P>The authors investigated whether ABCB1, ABCC2, and ABCG2 genetic polymorphisms affect pharmacokinetics (PK) of irinotecan and treatment outcome of patients with advanced nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC).</P><B>METHODS.</B><P>Blood samples from 107 NSCLC patients treated with irinotecan and cisplatin chemotherapy were used for genotyping ABCB1 (1236C > T, 2677G > T/A, 3435C > T), ABCC2 (−24C > T, 1249G > A, 3972C > T), and ABCG2 (34G > A, 421C > A) polymorphisms. Genotypes were correlated with irinotecan-PK, toxicity, tumor response, and survival.</P><B>RESULTS.</B><P>Among 8 polymorphisms, 3435TT and 2677TT were associated with AUC<SUB>SN-38G</SUB> and CL<SUB>SN-38G</SUB>. When haplotypes are assigned, 2677TT/3435TT carriers showed significantly lower AUC<SUB>SN-38G</SUB> (P = .006), whereas 2677GG/3435CC carriers showed significantly higher AUC<SUB>SN-38</SUB> (P = .039). These findings suggest that 2677TT and 3435TT variants are associated with higher efflux activity. In toxicity, the 2677G/T or A was associated with grade 4 neutropenia. The 2677GG carriers showed significantly lower absolute neutrophil count during the 1<SUP>st</SUP> cycle (P = .012) as well as entire course of chemotherapy (P = .042). The 3435TT was associated with higher frequency of grade 3 diarrhea (P = .047). In tumor response, ABCC2 −24TT and 3972TT genotypes were associated with higher response rates (P = .031 and .046, respectively) and longer progression-free survival (P = .035 and .038, respectively), which was sustained in haplotype analysis.</P><B>CONCLUSIONS.</B><P>Specific polymorphisms of ABCB1 and ABCC2 can influence disposition and tumor response to irinotecan by regulating transporter activity. These findings may help to individualize irinotecan-based chemotherapy in patients with advanced NSCLC. Cancer 2007. © 2007 American Cancer Society.</P>

Generalizes edema and hypoalbuminemia are relatively common presenting manifestations in many clinical situations. The differential diagnosis of hypoalbuminemia include; Kwashiorkor, synthetic dysfunction of the liver, and excessive protein loss as in nephrotic syndrome. In systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), hypoalbuminemia and generalized edema are most commonly due to protein loss associated with lupus nephritis; gastrointestinal involvement is uncommon, and therefore protein loss through the gastrointestinal tract is quite rare. We report a case of a protein losing enteropathy (PLE) associated with SLE. The patient was referred to out hospital for generalized edema, arthralgia and facial rash. After clinical evaluation, the patient met the criteria for the SLE diagnosis; hypoalbuminemia with general edema was consistent with a protein losing enteropathy. After two weeks of therapy with parenteral high dose glucocorticoid, the patients was improved in laboratory findings as well as clinical symptoms.

Background: Computed tomography (CT) is commonly used to evaluate the degree of sinus involvement in case of inverted papilloma (IP). However, CT cannot differentiate tumor from adjacent inflammatory mucosa or retained secretions. By contrast, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been reported to be useful in distinguishing IP from paranasal sinusitis. This study investigated whether preoperative assessment with MRI and CT accurately predict the extent of IP. Materials and methods: CT and MRI were retrospectively reviewed in 9 case of IP. Patients were categorized into staged based on CT and MRI findings according to the staging system proposed by Krouse. The involvement of IP in each sinus was also assessed. Results: Differentiation of IP from inflammatory disease may be more successful in routine case where the inflammatory mucosa has low signal intensity on T1-weighted images and very high signal intensity on T2-weighted images. CT imaging could not differentiate tumor from adjacent inflammatory mucosa or retained secretions. Conclusion: Preoperative MRI of IP can predict the location and extent of the tumor involvement in the paranasal sinuses and sometimes predicts malignant changes.

본 논문은 열평형 기술을 활용하여 다단계 조절이 가능한 유니베이커 오븐에 대하여 CFD(computational fluid dynamics) 해석을 수행하여 오븐내부의 열유동분포와 속도를 파악함으로서 오븐 내부의 열평형을 이룰 수 있는 최적 위치를 예상함으로서 유니베이커 오븐의 설계 자료로 이용하고자 한다.
