Intake of soy protein may decrease the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease in postmenopausal women. This study was designed to investigate the effects of isoflavone supplementation on serum lipids in 16 hyperlipidemic postmenopausal women. For this purpose, an intervention study was conducted for 12 weeks. Subjects were healthy, free-living women consuming habitual diets with 0.3 g/d of isoflavone. Food and nutrient intake was obtained by 24-hr recall method and anthropometric measurements were made. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total serum cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were determined before and after the isoflavone supplementation. The results were summarized as follows. The average age, height, weight and BMI of the subjects were 65.3 years, 151.4 cm, 62.2 kg and 27.1, respectively. The systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure were not reduced significantly with isoflavone supplementation. Total cholesterol (p < 0.001), HDL-C (p < 0.05), and LDL-C (p < 0.01) were significantly increased after isoflavone concentration. In conclusion, isoflavone supplementation was not effective to modify risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The constitutive relations for Fe-C and Fe-C-Cu powder compactions were investigated with the three consitituents: i) powder design parameters, ii) material related properties, and iii) final compaction properties. With the concept of materials informatics, this approach enables to predict the final compaction properties depending on the material conditions. The correlations between powder design parameters (particle size, graphite content, lubricant content, particle size distribution, copper content) and material related properties (<I>ρ</I> <I>Tap</I> , <I>γ</I>, <I>a</I>, <I>b</I>, <I>n</I>) in Shima-Oyane model were characterized by the compaction experiments and artificial neural network (ANN) model. The ANN model was developed to predict the effect of powder design parameters on the material related properties. The average mean absolute percentage error of predicted material related properties was 2.194%. The final properties (green density, density gradient, effective stress, hydrostatic stress, effective strain, volumetric strain) were calculated by the compaction simulation based on the experimental and predicted material related properties.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Compaction behaviors of Fe-C and Fe-C-Cu were characterized with Shima-Oyane model. </LI> <LI> A new artificial neural network model was developed for cold compaction. </LI> <LI> Leave one out cross validation and hyper parameter tuning approaches were applied. </LI> <LI> Sensitivities were calculated among powder design parameters and final properties. </LI> <LI> Integrated system was developed to predict the powder compaction behavior. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>Zn chalcogenides are suitable candidates for blue-emitting fluorophores in light-emitting devices. In particular, the efforts to grow ZnSe nanocrystals (NCs) with fine control over size and shape <I>via</I> bottom-up approaches have faced challenges because of the slow decomposition of Zn precursors. In this study, we report direct cation exchange from CdSe NCs to ZnSe. Absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) analysis reveal that the reactivity of cation exchange depends on the degree of complexation between organic ligands and Zn halides. We controlled the binding strength of Zn complexes by changing the organic ligands and halogen species that bind with Zn. Appropriate binding strength allows for the release of Zn ions and their facile incorporation into CdSe seed NCs. Under our experimental conditions, trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO)-ZnI2 drives the efficient cation exchange reaction whereas TOPO-ZnCl2 induces no cation exchange of CdSe NCs. In addition, functional groups vary the binding strength between Zn and ligands. Oleylamine (OLAm)-ZnI2, which has a weaker ligand-ZnI2 binding than TOPO-ZnI2, breaks down the original morphologies of host CdSe NCs due to the very fast exchange rate. On the other hand, the TOPO-ZnI2 complex induces a mild exchange rate, leading to transformation into various morphologies such as CdSe nanorods (NRs) and nanoplatelets (NPLs) into CdSe/ZnSe heterostructures inaccessible <I>via</I> other synthesis methods. The incorporation of Zn into various morphologies of CdSe results in tunable optical transitions in blue-UV regions. The synthesis of heterostructured NCs in an elongated morphology is possible, opening opportunities in photocatalysis, light emitting diodes, and luminescent solar concentrators.</P>

Phytochemical investigation on the 70% aqueousEtOH extract from the roots of Patrinia scabra led tothe isolation and characterization of five new non-glycosidiciridoids, patriscabrins F–J (1–5), along with a knowniridoid 11-ethoxyviburtinal (6). The structures of the newcompounds 1–5 were determined by interpretation ofspectroscopic data, particularly by 1D- and 2D-NMR andECD studies. Thereafter, the isolates 1–6 were evaluatedfor their inhibitory effects on lipopolysaccharide-inducednitric oxide production in RAW 264.7 cells. Of these, patriscabrin F (1) exhibited the most potent inhibitoryeffect with observed IC50 value of 14.1 lM. In addition, patriscabrin G (2) and 11-ethoxyviburtinal (6) showed IC50values 24.6 and 35.5 lM, respectively.

We study the off-equilibrium effects of the in aton field on the dynamics of primordial perturbations in the O(N) model. A self-consistent off-equilibrium formalism is employed to investigate the evolution of the in ationary background eld and its uctuations with the back-reaction effects. We nd two observable remains left behind after the off-equilibrium processes: the running spectral index of primordial density perturbations and the correlations between perturbation modes in phase space, which can serve as the imprints to probe the epoch of in ation, and beyond.
