      • Integral domains with finitely many spectral semistar operations

        <P>Let D be a finite-dimensional integral domain, Spec(D) be the set of prime ideals of D, and SpSS(D) be the set of spectral semistar operations on D. Mimouni gave a complete description for the prime ideal structure of D with SpSS(D) = n + dim(D) for 1 aecurrency sign n aecurrency sign 5 except for the quasi-local cases of n = 4, 5. In this paper, we show that there is an integral domain D such that SpSS(D) = n+dim(D) for all positive integers n with n not equal 2. As corollaries, we completely characterize the quasi-local domains D with SpSS(D) = n+dim(D) for n = 4, 5. Furthermore, we also present the lower and upper bounds of SpSS(D) when Spec(D) is a finite tree.</P>

For f@?D[[X]], let c<SUB>D</SUB>(f) denote the ideal of D generated by the coefficients of f. Let N={f@?D[[X]]|c<SUB>D</SUB>(f)=D}, N<SUB>t</SUB>={f@?D[[X]]|c<SUB>D</SUB>(f)<SUB>t</SUB>=D}, D((X))=D[[X]]<SUB>N</SUB>, and D{{X}}=D[[X]]<SUB>N't</SUB>. We show that D is a Krull domain if and only if D{{X}} is a Prufer domain, if and only if D[[X]]<SUB>P[[X]]</SUB> is a valuation domain for each maximal t-ideal P of D, if and only if D[[X]] is a PvMD in which each t-ideal is divisorial. We also show that D is a Dedekind domain if and only if D((X)) is a Prufer domain, if and only if D[[X]]<SUB>M[[X]]</SUB> is a valuation domain for each maximal ideal M of D.

        Novel substrates of a ribose-5-phosphate isomerase from Clostridium thermocellum

        A substrate specificity study of the recombinant D-ribose-5-phosphate isomerase (RpiB) from Clostridium thermocellum was performed. Among all aldopentoses and aldohexoses, the RpiB enzyme displayed activity with L-talose, D-ribose, D-allose, L-allose, L-ribose, and D-talose in decreasing order. The products released were L-tagatose, D-ribulose, D-psicose, L-psicose, L-ribulose, and D-tagatose, respectively. The enzyme showed specificity for aldose substrates possessing hydroxyl groups oriented in the same direction at the C2, C3, and C4 positions. Molecular modeling of the enzyme suggests that the novel substrate specificity may be explained by substrate interactions with residues Tyr42, His98, and His9, which interact with the hydroxyl groups of C2, C3, and C4, respectively, oriented in the same direction. L-Talose and D-ribulose exhibited the highest activity among the aldoses and ketoses, respectively. Ribose 5-phosphate isomerase catalyzed the conversion of L-talose to L-tagatose with an 89% conversion yield after approximately 90min, while D-ribulose was converted to D-ribose with a 38% conversion yield.

        Protein Profile in Corpus Luteum during Pregnancy in Korean Native Cows

        Steroidogenesis requires coordination of the anabolic and catabolic pathways of lipid metabolism, but the profile of proteins associated with progesterone synthesis in cyclic and pregnant corpus luteum (CL) is not well-known in cattle. In Experiment 1, plasma progesterone level was monitored in cyclic cows (n = 5) and pregnant cows (n = 6; until d-90). A significant decline in the plasma progesterone level occurred at d-19 of cyclic cows. Progesterone level in abbatoir-derived luteal tissues was also determined at d 1 to 5, 6 to 13 and 14 to 20 of cyclic cows, and d-60 and -90 of pregnant cows (n = 5 each). Progesterone level in d-60 CL was not different from those in d 6 to 13 CL and d-90 CL, although the difference between d 6 to 13 and d-90 was significant. In Experiment 2, protein expression pattern in CL at d-90 (n = 4) was compared with that in CL of cyclic cows at d 6 to 13 (n = 5). Significant changes in the level of protein expression were detected in 32 protein spots by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2-DE), and 23 of them were identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). Six proteins were found only in pregnant CL, while the other 17 proteins were found only in cyclic CL. Among the above 6 proteins, vimentin which is involved in the regulation of post-implantation development was included. Thus, the protein expression pattern in CL was disorientated from cyclic luteal phase to mid pregnancy, and alterations in specific CL protein expression may contribute to the maintenance of pregnancy in Korean native cows.

      • Expression of mosquitocidal crystal protein genes in non-insecticidal Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis

Bacillus thuringiensis NTB-1 isolated from soil samples in Korea produces ovoidal parasporal inclusions with proteins of approximately 24-40kDa in size. Although serological study indicated that the isolate has a flagella (H) antigen identical with subsp. israelensis, it seemed to be non-insecticidal against Lepidoptera and Coleoptera as well as Diptera. To investigate the activity of non-insecticidal B.thuringiensis transformed with insecticidal crystal protein genes, cryIVD and cytA genes of B. thuringiensis subsp. morrisoni PG-14, highly toxic to mosquito larvae, were introduced into the isolate NTB-1. The expression of mosquitocidal crystal protein genes in NTB-1 was characterized by SDS-PAGE analysis and electron microscopy. The results showed that crystalline inclusions of host, CryIVD and CytA were stably expressed in the transformant. However, the mosquitocidal activity of transformant was similar to that of B. thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki Cry-B harbouring cryIVD and cytA genes, demonstrating that a synergistic effect by an interaction of both introduced insecticidal and resident non-insecticidal crystal proteins was not observed.

      • Modeling effects of vehicle specifications on fuel economy based on engine fuel consumption map and vehicle dynamics

        The present study conducts a vehicle dynamic modeling of gasoline and diesel vehicles by using the AVL commercial program. 10 passenger vehicles were tested for 7 types of driving modes containing city, express and highway driving mode. The various vehicle data (specifications, fuel consumption map, gear shifting curve data, etc.) were collected and implemented as input data. The calculations were conducted with changing driving modes and vehicle types, and prediction accuracy of the calculation results were validated based on chassis dynamometer test data. In order to increase prediction accuracy for a wide vehicle operating range, some modifications regarding gear shifting was also conducted. From these processes, it is confirmed that the prediction accuracy of fuel efficiency and CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions shows a strong correlations with test results. After ensuring the accuracy of the calculation result, parametric studies were conducted to reveal correlations between vehicle specifications (e.g., vehicle weight and frontal area) on fuel efficiency and CO<SUB>2</SUB> emissions and check which parameters were highly impact on fuel efficiency.

        Hot-pressing of cast Nd-Fe-B alloy was tried out for the shortening of manufacturing process for anisotropic R-Fe-B magnet. The effects of composition and working variables on the magentic properties for Nd-Dy-Fe-B-Cu magnets were studied. The results are as follows: 1. Dendritic growth to the direction of mold wall was observed in as-cast Nd-Dy-Fe-B-Cu alloys. Magnetization measured to the normal direction to the solidification showed higher values than the values measured to the parallel direction. 2. Hot-pressing of Nd-Dy-Fe-Cu alloy invoked alignement of grains to press direction 3. In Nd_xDy₁Fe_(92.5-x)B_5Cu_(1.5)(x=13∼16) and Nd_(14) Dy₁Fe_(83.5-y)B_yCu_(1.5)(Y=4∼8) alloys, the optimal magnetic properties of hot-pressed magnets were attained at x=14 and y=5. 4. It was confirmed that added Cu existed in Nd rich phase.

        IL-32γ inhibits cancer cell growth through inactivation of NF-κB and STAT3 signals

        <P>Several studies have shown physiological functions of interleukin (IL)-32, a novel cytokine. However, the role of IL-32 in cancer development has not been reported. In this study, we showed that IL-32γ inhibited tumor growth in IL-32γ-overexpressing transgenic mice inoculated with melanoma as well as colon tumor growth in xenograft nude mice inoculated with IL-32γ-transfected colon cancer cells (SW620). The inhibitory effect of IL-32γ on tumor growth was associated with the inhibition of constitutive activated nuclear transcription factor-κB (NF-κB) and of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3). The expression of antiapoptotic, cell proliferation and tumor-promoting genes (<I>bcl-2</I>, <I>X-chromosome inhibitor of apoptosis protein</I> (<I>IAP</I>), <I>cellular IAP</I> and <I>cellular FADD-like IL-1β-converting enzyme-inhibitory protein</I>, <I>cyclin D</I>), cyclin-dependent kinase 4, cycolooxygenase-2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase was decreased, whereas the expression of apoptotic target genes (<I>caspase-3</I> and <I>-9</I>, <I>bax</I>) increased. In tumor, spleen and blood, the number of cytotoxic CD8<SUP>+</SUP> T cells and CD57<SUP>+</SUP> natural killer cells and the levels of IL-10 increased, but that of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), IL-1β and IL-6 decreased. We also found that forced overexpression of IL-32γ inhibited colon cancer cell (SW620 and HCT116) growth accompanied with the inhibition of activated NF-κB and STAT3 <I>in vitro</I>. In addition, when IL-32γ was knocked down by small interfering RNA (siRNA) or neutralized with an anti-IL-32γ antibody, IL-32γ-induced colon cancer cell growth inhibition, the IL-32γ-induced decrease of TNF-α, IL-1 and IL-6 production, and the increase of IL-10 production were abolished. However, siRNA of NF-κB and STAT3 augmented IL-32γ-induced colon cancer cell growth inhibition. These findings indicate significant pathophysiological roles of IL-32γ in cancer development.</P>

        The application of solar energy, in the field of alternative energy, was on the increase tendency. In the case of advanced nations, through continuous R&D, solar-heat hot-water-boiler with high efficiency has been used for the house and the industrial process on business, advanced nations were reached up the experimental stage of solar generation system. But, the actual circumstance of the domestic has been not accomplished the popularization of solar-heat hot-water-boiler and the settlement of it which is the fundamental stage of the solar energy usage. This trouble, the domestic was flooded with small enterprise for producing solar-heat hot-water-boiler, was caused by the popularization and the production without verification of performance. To supply the monitoring program for evaluating solar-heat hot-water-boiler, this research was purpose to improve the technical development of the enterprise for producing solar-heat hot-water-boiler and served as an aid for the enlargement and the popularization on solar energy.

        The OH molecule is a highly reactive combustion intermediate and relatively abundant in combustion systems. It also has the availability of convenient UV -laser systems to excite the A²Σ-X²?? electronic transition. The spectroscopic parameters describing this transition are well known. In this research, the OH molecule was measured in the laminar flame burner and constant volume combustion chamber(CVCC) in order to use it as the fundamental data for studying combustion phenomena. The LIF images of the OH molecule in the laminar 리ame burner were caught by using KrF excimer laser and ICCD camera. The natural fluorescence<br/> of OH was also measured by the interference filter(310 nm) and spectrometer in the CVCC at different equivalence ratios.
