This study was performed to evaluate the effect of surface roughness on the flow of a 14K gold solder and the tensile strength of solder joints in titanium. To evaluate the flow of 14K gold solder on titanium, the spreading area of solder 10mg at 840℃ was measured on the titanium plate of 15 ×15 ×1mm. Two pieces of titanium rod 30mm in length and 3mm in diameter were butt-soldered using a electric resistance heating and tensile test was subjected to a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. Titanium surfaces were polished with #80∼#2000 emery paper and blasted with 50㎛ glass bead or alumina. The solder-matrix interface region was analyzed by EPMA. The results obtained were summarized as follows ; 1. Maximum spreading area was obtained when the surfaces were polished with #240 emery paper, the spreading area decreased with the decrease of surface roughness. 2. Maximum tensile strength value was 398.18 ±15.82 MPa when the soldering surfaces were polished with #2000 emery paper, and tensile strength increased with the decrease of surface roughness. 3. EPMA data for the solder matrix interface region revealed that the diffusion of Au and Cu occured to the titanium matrix, and the reaction zone in the solder showed the increase of Au, Cu, and Ti.
광중합형 복합레진 제조시의 압축강도에 관한 실험적 연구

This study was performed to elaluate the effect of matrix resins and fillers on the compressive strength of light-activated composite resins. Four different types of composites were made by mixing the inorganic fillers of armorphous spherical silica and crushed quartz with resins of BisGMA/TEGDMA and UTeMA/TEGDMA. The specimens of 3mm in diameter and 6mm in length were prepared. Compressive test was subjected to a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min and fracture surfaces were examined by SEM. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. Compressive strength of the UTeMA-based composite resin with spherical filler was superior to the other composite resins(p<0.01). 2. Compressive strength of the BisGMA-based composite resins with significantly decreased after immersion in water for 7 days(p<0.05). 3. UTeMA-based composite resins showed the aspect of decrease in compressive strength after cold storage at 5℃.

Microcopic polyangiitis (MPA) is a systemic disorder affecting small vessels. In MPA, the central nervous system involvements have rarely been reported. We experienced a case of MPA with subdural effusion and pachymeningitis in a 50-year-old woman. The diagnosis of MPA was made by the presence of mononeuritis multiplex, hematuria, pachymeningitis, and p-ANCA seropositivity in this patient. Subdural effusion was of exudates and an active suppurative inflammation was observed on the dural biopsy.

Testosterone이 serum-free medium에서 배양한 토끼의 신장 근위세뇨관 상피세포의 세포성장과 기능에 미치는 영향을 관찰한 바 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 토끼의 신장 근위세뇨관 상피세포는 testosterone 1 nM의 농도에서 유의한 세포 성장 촉진 효과를 나타내었고, testosterone 10 nM이상의 농도에서는 세포성장이 억제되었다. 2. Testosterone은 serum-free medium에서 성장촉진인자의 하나인 hydrocortisone을 growth supplement로 넣어준 serum-free medium에서 토끼 신장의 근위세뇨관 상피세포의 성장을 촉진시키었다. 3. Testosterone은 hydrocortisone을 growth supplement로 넣어준 serum-free medium에서 토끼 신장의 근위세뇨관 상피세포의 성장을 촉진시키었다. 4. Testosterone은 Northern blot analysis에 의하여 확인한 토끼 신장의 근위 세뇨관 상피세포의 β-actin mRNA level은 증가되었다. 이상의 결과로 미루어 보아, serum-free 그리고 hormonally defined media에서 testosterone이 토끼의 신장 근위세뇨관 상피세포의 성장 및 기능에 대하여 촉진적으로 작용하는 것은 cellular mecrofilament의 중요한 구성단백의 하나로 밝혀진β-actin의 합성 증가에 기인하는 것으로 생각된다. In order to examine the effect of testosterone of the cell growth, using a primary rabbit kidney proximal tubule cell culture system, we observed the effect of 3 growth factors and testosterone supplementation on the growth of primary rabbit kidney proximal tubule cells in the serum-free medium. 1 nM of testosterone showed a potentiation of the effect on the growth of the proximal tubule cell in serum-free medium, but higher concentration (>10 nM) of testosterone indeed inhibited the growth. In the absence of hydrocortisone as a growth supplement in serum-free medium, testosterone caused to potentiate the growth of the cell. In the presence of hydrocortisone, testosterone also potentiated the grwoth of the proximal tubule cells. According to the Northern analysis, testosterone increased significantly the level of β-actin mRNA in proximal tubular cells of rabbit kidney. Consequently we may suggest that growth stimulatory effect of testosterone on the primary rabbit kidney proximal tubule cell in serum-free and hormonally defined media ascribed to increase the synthesis of β-actin, which is an important protein consisting of cellular microfilament.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Stress that impairs endoplasmic reticulum (ER) function leads to an accumulation of unfolded or misfolded proteins in the ER (ER stress). Autophagy is a lysosomal pathway involved in the turnover of cellular macromolecules and organelles, which emerging data indicate that ER stress is also a potent inducer of autophagy. ER stress and autophagy are involved in human cancer. We examined the expression of ER stress‐related proteins [GRP78 and C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP)] and autophagic proteins (Beclin‐1 and LC3) in non‐small cell lung carcinomas (NSCLCs), bronchioloalveolar carcinomas (BACs) and atypical adenomatous hyperplasias (AAHs) to understand their role in the NSCLC pathogenesis. The expression of GRP78 and CHOP, Beclin‐1 and LC3 were analyzed using immunohistochemistry on tissue sections from 133 NSCLC (69 squamous cell carcinomas, 56 adenocarcinomas (AC) and eight other NSCLCs), 21 BAC and 9 AAH. Expression of GRP78 and Beclin‐1 was correlated with low tumor stage (<I>p</I> < 0.001 and <I>p</I> = 0.019, respectively) and longer survival (<I>p</I> = 0.007 and <I>p</I> <0.001, respectively) by Kaplan–Meier analysis. However, CHOP was correlated with high tumor stage (<I>p</I> = 0.038) and shorter survival (<I>p</I> = 0.012). Expression of GRP78 and Beclin‐1 was positively correlated (<I>p</I> = 0.006). Our study showed that the expression of GRP78, CHOP, Beclin‐1 and LC3 in lung cancer and its relation with clinicopathologic factors and patients survival. These results suggest that GRP78, CHOP and Beclin‐1 may play an important role in tumorigenesis of lung AC and may serve as new prognostic indicators for outcome of the patients with NSCLC.</P>
