To construct transfurmed Bm5 cells, Autographa californica nuclear polyhedrosis virus(AcNPV) IE1 gene, an immediate early viral gene was firstly used in this study. AcNPV IE1 gene, which shares on 95.3% nucleotide sequence homology with Bombyx mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus (BmNPV) IE1 gene, was isolated and cloned into pBluescript. Neomycin gene from pKO-neo was inserted under the control of the IE1 promoter to yield pAcIE1-neo. The plasmid pAcIE1-neo was transfected into Bm5 or Sf9 cells, and neomycin-resistant cells were selected in TC100 medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) and 1 mg/ml G4l8 for two weeks. Individual clones were picked and each was amplified for further characterization. The genomic DNA from neomycin-resistant cells was isolated and characterized by PCR using AcNPV IEI gene-specific primers and by Southern blot analysis using neomycin gene probe. We concluded that AcNPV IE1 gene was functional in B. mori-derived Bm5 cells as well as Spodoptera fugjprrda-derived Sf9 cells to produce stably-transformed insect cells
POSTMORTEM STUDY ON A KOREAN WOMAN WITH CEREBRAL RETE MIRABILE

환자는 47세 된 한국 여자로서, 입원하기 5일전 목욕탕에서 무의식 상태로 발견된 후 혼수상태로 서울대학교 의과대학 부속병원 신경외과에 입원했다. 환자는 10년전에도 비슷한 병력을 가지고 있었으며 약 10일간의 무의식 상태에서 특별한 후유증없이 회복되어 그후 비교적 정상적인 생활을 해 왔다. 입원후 우측 경동맥조영술을 시행한바 전대뇌동맥이 전혀 보이지 않았으며, 정중대뇌동맥의 병적인 미세한 분지가 관찰되었다. 뇌척수액검사는 지주막하출혈의 소견을 보이고 있었다. 환자는 EACA, Steroid 등으로 치료받아 첫 일주일간 병세가 호전되어 의사표시를 할 수 있게 되었으나 입원 12일째부터 갑자기 고열이 나면서 악화되어 약 10일간 고열이 계속되다가 제21병일에 사망했다. 사망 13시간후 시행한 부검소견을 보면, 육안적으로 우측 뇌실 및 기저핵부에 혈종이 관찰되었으며 Willis환 전반부에서의 불규칙한 현관주행을 볼 수 있었다. H&E 및 Verhoeff 염색법에 의한 현미경적 소견은 지금까지 알려진 전형적인 소견 즉 동맥내경의 Polster 양비후가 전반적으로 관찰되었고 동맥벽에서의 염증성 소견은 볼 수 없었다. 뇌실질내혈종주위의 염증성 소견은 2차적인 것으로 보여진다. 저자들은 본 증례를 보고하면서 지금까지 알려진 지식 이외의 특별한 기여를 하지는 못했으나 일본인 이외의 환자로서는 처음으로 부검례를 보고한다는 점에 그 의의를 찾고자 한다.

Background and Objectives: Antiarrhythmic effect of renal denervation (RDN) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) remains unclear. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of RDN on ventricular arrhythmia (VA) after AMI in a porcine model. Methods: Twenty pigs were randomly divided into 2 groups based on RDN (RDN, n=10; Sham, n=10). After implanting a loop recorder, AMI was induced by occlusion of the middle left anterior descending coronary artery. Catheter-based RDN was performed for each renal artery immediately after creating AMI. Sham procedure used the same method, but a radiofrequency current was not delivered. Electrocardiography was monitored for 1 hour to observe VA. One week later, the animals were euthanized and the loop recorder data were analyzed. Results: Ventricular fibrillation event rate and the interval from AMI creation to first VA in acute phase were not different between the 2 groups. However, the incidence of premature ventricular complex (PVC) was lower in the RDN than in the Sham. Additionally, RDN inhibited prolongation of the corrected QT (QTc) interval after AMI. The frequency of non-sustained or sustained ventricular tachycardia, arrhythmic death was lower in the RDN group in the early period. Conclusions: RDN reduced the incidence of PVC, inhibited prolongation of the QTc interval, and reduced VA in the early period following an AMI. These results suggest that RDN might be a therapeutic option in patients with electrical instability after AMI.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, we demonstrated a single-layer silicon nitride (SiNx) film deposited on polyethyleneterephthalate substrate as a moisture permeation barrier film that reduced the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR). The SiNx film was fabricated by roll-to-roll, plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (R2R-PECVD) in widths as large as 500 mm. The effects of the NH<SUB>3</SUB>/SiH<SUB>4</SUB> flow ratio on the SiNx properties were investigated according to their refractive index, optical characteristics, film density, WVTR, and chemical composition. The durability of the flexibility of the SiNx film was investigated via outer/inner bending test and cyclic bending fatigue test. The SiNx film showed excellent thickness uniformity and optical properties. At the NH<SUB>3</SUB>/SiH<SUB>4</SUB> flow ratio of 3, the SiNx film exhibited the highest film density and the best moisture barrier performances of 1.67 × 10<SUP>−3</SUP> g/m<SUP>2</SUP>·day. The results of the inner bending test showed that the flexibility of the SiNx film was excellent. The test results showed that the failure bending radius was 2 mm. The durable flexibility of the SiNx film was influenced by the internal residual stress and microstructure. After 10,000 cyclic inner-bending fatigue tests, no crack was observed, and the WVTR values were maintained below 2.0 × 10<SUP>−3</SUP> g/m<SUP>2</SUP>·day. These results indicate that the single-layer SiNx film fabricated with a simple R2R PECVD has a high potential as a moisture barrier film for future flexible electronic applications.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We demonstrate a single-layer silicon nitride (SiNx) film as permeation barrier film. </LI> <LI> SiNx film is coated by large roll-to-roll plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. </LI> <LI> Relationship between water permeation, flexibility and film density is first analyzed. </LI> <LI> It shows water permeation of 1.67 × 10<SUP>−3</SUP> g/m<SUP>2</SUP>·day and superior bendability. </LI> </UL> </P>

In this work, we investigate the growth behavior of silicon oxide nanowires via a solid-liquid-solid process. Silicon oxide nanowires were synthesized at $1000^{\circ}C$ in an Ar and $H_2$ mixed gas. A pre-oxidized silicon wafer and a nickel film are used as the substrate and catalyst, respectively. We propose two distinctive growth modes for the silicon oxide nanowires that both act as a unique solid-liquid-solid growth process. We named the two growth mechanisms "grounded-growth" and "branched-growth" modes to characterize their unique solid-liquid-solid growth behavior. The two growth modes were classified by the generation site of the nanowires. The grounded-growth mode in which the grown nanowires are generated from the substrate and the branchedgrowth mode where the nanowires are grown from the side of the previously grown nanowires or at the metal catalyst drop attached at the tip of the nanowire stem.
Cloning of Two chitin Synthase Gene Fragments from Penicillium diversum

The PCR fragments of two distinct chitin synthase genes, PdCHS1 and PdCHS2, were cloned from Penicillium diversum KCTC 6786. The nucleotide sequences of PdCHS1 and PdCHS2 contained uninterrupted open reading frames (ORFs) of 570 bp excluding the prime sequence. The similarity analysis of the deduced amino acid sequences using BLASTP indicated that the possible evolutionary relationship between P. diversum and ascomycetous fungi. Multialignment of the deduced amino acid sequences of PdCHSs using CLASTAL W revealed that the PdCHSs fell into two different classes: PdCHS1 into Class I and PdCHS2 into Class Ⅱ of chitin synthase defined by Bowen et al. (1992). By Southern blot analysis, it was shown that each of the two genes is present as a single copy in the genome of P. diversum KCTC 6786.
