Interstitial cystitis has been thought to result from autoimmune phenomenon and its ocurrence in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) has rarely been reported. We report a case of female patient with SLE whose initial urinary symptoms were caused by intersitial cystitis. Radiography showed the reduced bladder capacity, irregularity of bladder wall, hydronephrosis and hydroureter. Deep bladder wall biopsy was performed and a diagnosis of interstitial cystitis with SLE was made. She was treated with steroid and stent insertion and showed symptomatic improvement. We consider the recognition of bladder involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus is important because it may be a reversible cause of renal failure in a patient with lupus erythematosus and adequate therapy may preserve bladder size and function.

A tissue biosensor was developed for the continuous determination of Na+ channel blockers. The proposed sensor was applied to the determination of Na+ channel blockers in seaweed. It was found that Na+ channel blocker content displayed seasonal variation; it was high from February to April and decreased thereafter (May∼August). From theme results the present proposed method may be used for high sensitive determination of Na+ channel blockers contained in the seaweed organisms and environments. Therefore, it may be important to monitor Na+ channel blocker content of seaweed throughout the year.

Food safety and hygiene have been discussed from many directions. However, from the standpoint based on HACCP, safety issues in the seafood have to be determination of several factors, for example, freshness and viable cell counts, freshness and chemical component, processing, preservation and chemical changes, rheology and chemical changes, toxins of puffer fish and shellfish. According to HACCP, the maintenance of food safety and hygiene should remove all of the forecasted hazards from products and processing. Those of us who are engaged in food science and technology have to understand all of the factors mentioned above.
The Effect of Freshness on Puffer Fish Toxin, Tetrodotoxin

K value (ratio of nucleotide decomposition) of dorsal muscle and TTX (tetrodotoxin) concentration in dorsal and tail muscles, skin and liver were investigated at regular time intervals during storage at 5℃ for 0 to 4 days in brown-backed toad fish (Lagocephalus wheeleri) and vermiculated puffer fish (Takifugu vermicularis) using biofresh analyzer and tissue biosensor, respectively. K value increased gradually whereas TTX concentration almost stable in puffer fishes body parts during storage period. The highest concentration of TTX was found in liver. No significant difference in TTX concentration was found between TTX content of dorsal muscle and that of tail muscle.
