New Record of Host Plant for Radopholus similis Isolated from Staurogyne sp.

Radopholus similis belong to the plant parasitic nematode family, Pratylenchidae and was recognized that injure the plant. R. similis was generally identified from bananas and plantain in the tropics. However, the occurrence of infection of R. similis on new host plant was confirmed recently. The aim of this study was to report the determination of new host plant for R. similis on Staurogyne sp. The species identification was evaluated the morphological and molecular characteristics of nine R. similis. Molecular assay was designed from the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of ribosomal DNA to distinguish species. Nematodes from Staurogyne sp. showed almost similar morphological and morphometric characteristics in general R. similis, but some variation in tail shape was confirmed. Also, male was not detectable. Molecular assay showed a high level (97%) of similarity in the TW81-AB28 and 18S-28S sequences (ITS region) with corresponding NCBI sequence. The quarantine should be more intensely to detect the prohibited nematode.
Trend Shift in the Cause of Revision Total Knee Arthroplasty over 17 Years

Background: The number of revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has been increasing. Although many studies have analyzed the causes of revision TKA in Western countries, a limited number of studies have analyzed changes in causes of or trends in revision TKA in Asia. This study analyzed and determined the frequency and causes of failures after TKA in our hospital. We also analyzed the differences and trends over the past 17 years. Methods: A total of 296 revision TKAs performed in a single institution from 2003 to 2019 were analyzed. During the 17-year study period, patients who had undergone primary TKA between 2003 and 2011 were classified into a past group, while those who had undergone primary TKA from 2012 to 2019 were classified into a recent group. A revision performed within 2 years after primary TKA was defined as early revision. Further, differences in causes of revision TKA according to the interval from primary TKA to revision TKA were determined. The causes of revision TKA were analyzed through a comprehensive analysis of patients’ medical records. Results: Overall, infection was the most common cause of failure (151/296 cases, 51.0%). Compared to the past group, the recent group had a relatively higher proportion of patients undergoing revision TKA for mechanical loosening (past group, 19.1% vs. recent group, 31.9%) and instability (11.2% vs. 13.5%) and a relatively lower proportion of patients undergoing revision TKA for infection (56.2% vs. 48.8%), polyethylene (PE) wear (9.0% vs. 2.9%), osteolysis (2.2% vs. 1.9%), and malalignment (2.2% vs. 1.0%). On comparison according to the interval from primary TKA to revision TKA, the rate of infection relatively decreased, whereas the rate of mechanical loosening and instability relatively increased in the late revision TKA compared to the early revision TKA. Conclusions: Infection and aseptic loosening were the most common reasons of revision TKA in both past and recent groups. Compared to the past, revision TKA due to PE wear has decreased significantly and revision TKA due to mechanical loosening has relatively increased recently. Orthopedic surgeons need to be aware of recent trends in mechanisms of failure and should try to recognize and address the probable causes in TKA.

The aim of the study is to report Radopholus similis detected from Agathis dammara in Thailand as new host plant. Existing host of R. similis was known as coffee, pepper, sugarcane and banana etc. This nematode in this study was observed morphologic character using Carl Zeiss Axioimager M2 and Axiovision Rel. 4.8 program. The result shows that a and b of the female was distorted toward maximum value of original description of species, and b′, c and stylet length was distorted toward minimum value of original description of species. This nematode was morphologically distinguished from originally detected R. similis, but measured value was similar in range of original description of species. For more information, molecular assay was also confirmed the R. similis with 98% homology with the sequence of the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of ribosomal DNA. We provided PCR-amplified ITS nucleotide sequence.
Effect of medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy on progression of patellofemoral osteoarthritis

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effect of medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) on patellofemoral joint osteoarthritis (PF OA) progression and its outcome according to the degree of preexisting PF OA. Materials and methods: Patients who underwent biplane MOWHTO between January 2006 and December 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. The patients were divided into two groups according to the degree of PF OA: non- PF OA [Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) grade 0-1] and PF OA (K-L grade 2-3). Propensity score matching was performed between the two groups, and comparative analysis was performed on clinical scores and radiographic parameters and grade. Results: After propensity score matching, 83 patients were selected for each group. At postoperative follow-up, clinical scores were improved significantly compared with preoperative scores in both groups; however, there were no significant differences between the groups. There were also no significant differences between the two groups in radiographic parameters. The radiographic grade of PF OA indicated a slight progression in osteoarthritis in both groups; however, PF OA tended to progress further in the PF OA group. Conclusions: MOWHTO did not result in significant differences in outcomes at postoperative follow-up; however, preexisting PF OA contributed to PF OA progression after MOWHTO.
Vancouver 분류 B1과 C 삽입물 주위 골절에 대한 수술적 치료법의 임상 및 영상의학적 결과

목 적: Vancouver 분류 B1과 C 삽입물 주위 골절에서 금속판을 이용한 수술적 치료의 임상적, 영상의학적 결과를 분석하였다. 대상 및 방법: 2002년부터 2012년까지 Vancouver 분류 B1과 C 삽입물 주위 골절에 대하여 압박 금속판 및 잠김 압박 금속판을 이용한 내고정술을 시행한 20명을 후향적으로 연구하였다. 평균나이는 66.0세(43-85세)이며 평균추시기간은 38개월(12-102개월)이었다. 압박 금속판은 12명, 잠김 압박 금속판은 8명에서 사용되었다. 수술 후 Harris hip score (HHS) 점수 및 슬관절굴곡 운동정도, 골유합률 및 시기 등을 분석하였다. 결 과: 술 후 HHS 점수는 평균 90.7점(64-96점)으로 두 군에서 차이는 없었다. 술 후 슬관절 굴곡 운동정도는 압박 금속판에서 평균 103.3o (105-140o)를 보였으며, 잠김 압박 금속판에서 평균 118.4o (110-140o)를 보여 잠김 압박 금속판에서 좋은 결과를 보였다(p=0.043). 영상의학적 평가상 골유합률 및 시기에 두 군에서 차이는 없었다. 결 론: 술 후 슬관절 굴곡운동능력은 잠김 압박 금속판에서 더 좋은 결과를 보였으며, Vancouver 분류 B1과 C 삽입물 주위골절 시 잠김 압박 금속판의 사용은 좋은 방법 중 하나로 판단된다. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical and radiologic results of plate fixation in the Vancouver B1 and C periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF). Materials and Methods: Twenty patients who had sustained a Vancouver type B1 and C periprosthetic fracture after hip arthroplasty (years 2002-2012) were identified. The mean age was 66.0 years (range, 43-85 years) and the mean follow-up duration of the group was 38 months (range, 12-102 months). The dynamic compression plate (DCP) group included 12 patients and the locking compression plate (LCP) group included eight patients. Harris hip score (HHS) and walking ability, knee joint range of motion (ROM) were compared before injury and last follow-up. Fracture union rate and period were compared. Results: The mean HHS score was 90.7 (64-96). There was no statistical difference between the two groups. At the last follow-up, knee joint ROM was 103.3o (105o-140o) in the DCP group and 118.4o (110o-140o) in the LCP group, showing good results in the LCP group (p=0.043). No significant difference in the fracture union rate and union periods was observed between the two groups. Conclusion: A better result for the postoperative knee flexion exercise capacity was observed in the LCP group. Use of LCP plate fixation is a good option in management of Vancouver classification B1 and C PFF.
