Silicon nitride samples with aligned whisker seeds were prepared with different amounts of yttria and alumina as the sintering additives. Their sintering behaviors and the microstructural developments between 2123K and 2323K were examined. The sample with larger amount of the sintering additives showed faster densification and grain growth. Even though addition of the aligned whisker seeds slightly retarded densification of silicon nitride, it improved the flexural strength and the fracture toughness. Both the flexural strength and the fracture toughness of silicon nitride with the aligned whisker seeds were increased as the amount of the sintering additives was increased.
Polysaccharide based cancer cell specific nano-carrier for photodynamic therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT), which employs photosensitizers (PSs), a light source with appropriate wavelength, and oxygen molecules, has potential for the treatment of various tumors and non-oncological diseases due to its high efficiency in directly producing cellular death, vascular shutdown, and immune activation. For the past decade, many PSs were developed with improved optical and chemical properties. However, some weak points still remain such as low solubility and low tumor specificity by hydrophobic PSs. So, many PDT studies based on soluble polysaccharide carriers such as PSs conjugated polysaccharide nanocarrier and PSs loaded nanocarrier have been carried out in order to improve the water solubility and target specificity of PSs. In case of our group, we prepared the polysaccharide based nanocarrier system composed of cancer cell target-moiety-labeled polysaccharide-graft PS by a dialysis method to improve their targeting efficiency and water solubility. The synthesis was confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy, and degree of substitution was determined by UV-spectrophotometery. The size of spherical nanogels was approximately 170 nm, and its photocytotoxicity was studied by an XTT assay. While the PS grafted nanocarrier circulated in the blood, the nanocarrier’s photoactivity may be suppressed by a self-quenching effect between PS molecules in the PS grafted nanocarrier system, similar to the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) effect. Because the PS grafted nanocarrier system is thought to be internalized into cancer cells following tissue penetration, its photoactivity may be restored without the FRET effect by cleavage of its ester bonds through enzymatic attack in the extracellular matrix and cellular compartments such as lysosomes. The PS grafted nanocarrier system showed a self-quenching activity in the aqueous environment, and has the capacity of tumor tissue targeting by nano-size induced EPR. After accumulation of the PS grafted nanocarrier system in tumors, the fluorescence signals will be gradually enhanced by the release of the PS from broken PS grafted nanocarrier caused by cleavable ester linkage. The phototoxicity effects in the cells by the irradiation of external light resulted in generation of singlet oxygen, at the same time when the near-infrared fluorescence molecular imaging can be detected.

This study was conducted to assess the possibility of skin wrinkle model by consecutive topical squalene monohydroperoxide(Sq-OOH) treatment to the hairless mice. Squalene monohydroperoxide was produced from squalene by UVA irradiation. Consecutive topical application of squalene monohydroperoxide to the hairless mice skin twice a day for 4 weeks induced the skin wrinkles with clear, deep and fine appearance. Skin wrinkles are appeared to be cross patterns without any particular direction, whereas parallel pattern was induced in the chronic UVB irradiated skin. The chronic UVB irradiated skin model has been known the most common animal model for skin wrinkle test. Photoaged skin showed the increment of epidermal thickness, shortened and fractured collagen bundles, and loss of total dermal collagen. Although similar appearance was occurred as seen in UVB irradiated skin in topical Sq-OOH treatment model, however, Sq-OOH treated skin induced more apparent skin wrinkles and more increment of epidermal thickness than those of chronic DVB irradiated skin. Histopathologically, more prominent keratinocyte hypertrophy was seen in Sq-OOH treated skin, comparison with chronic UVB irradiated group in epidermis. In dermis, degree of characteristic findings of UVB irradiated skin such as the loss of polarity and fractured collagen bundle and elastosis were not severely observed, while slightly increase of inflammatory cells were seen, in Sq-OOH treated skin. These results indicated that skin wrinkles and histopathological changes induced by Sq-OOH are different in many aspects from those by UVB irradiation. However, despite of widely used, chronic UVB irradiated model was spent a lot of time to achieve cumulative effect on the skin. We suggested that Sq-OOH model is a useful model to test the anti-wrinkle effects, because of its short induction time and more clear wrinkle formation.

Inductive power transformer (IPT) is a contact-less power supply device and its application range has been extended to the large capacity devices such as electric vehicles, industrial mover and railway system as well as small capacity devices such as electric toothbrush charger, celluar phone charger, and so on. For railway application, the IPT will transfer energy while train stops at a station for around 30[sec]. Therefore, equivalent circuit parameters and coupling coefficient of IPT are an important design factor for the high energy transfer efficiency. This paper investigates the properties of equivalent circuit parameters and coupling coefficient of U-U type IPT and U-I type IPT using an analytical method and experimental method.

저자가 작성하는 논문의 저자 키워드는 논문 내용의 특징을 나타내는 가장 중요한 요소이며, 이를 실시간으로 분석하여 사용자에게 제공하게 함으로써, 연구동향을 파악하는 것이 가능하다. 서지로 작성된 논문의 비정형 데이터를 데이터베이스로 구축 하고, 이를 활용하여 실시간 탐색이 가능하도록 색인데이터 구조를 만든다. 특정 키워드가 포함된 논문을 색인데이터 구조에서 탐색하고, 저자키워드를 대상으로 추출, 클러스터링 하여 가중치에 따라 크기별로 나타낼 수 있는 워드클라우드로 사용자에게 제공하여, 연구동향을 가시화 하는 방법을 설계하였다. 또한, 구현된 시스템에서 “바이러스”와 “홍채인식” 키워드를 통하여 연구동향 분석 결과를 제시하였다. The authors’ author keywords are the most important elements that characterize the contents of the paper, By analyzing this in real time and providing it to users, It is possible to grasp research trends. Unstructured data of a journal created in a paper is constructed as a database, make use of this to make index data structure that can search in real time. In the index data structure, a thesis containing a specific keyword is searched, By extracting and clustering the author keywords, By presenting to the user a word cloud that can be displayed by size according to the weight, designed a method to visualize research trends. We also present the results of the research trend analysis of the keywords “virus” and “iris recognition” in the implemented system.
