Automatic procedures analyzing remote sensing data to minimize flood response time: a step towards National flood mapping service

        Vinod Kumar Sharma,G. Srinivasa Rao,C. M. Bhatt,Abhinav Kumar Shukla,Ashish Kumar Mishra,V. Bhanumurthy 대한공간정보학회 2017 Spatial Information Research Vol.25 No.5

Value added flood products helps decision makers in an efficient relief and rescue operations. On time availability of flood products, may help decision makers, in early decision making. Indian monsoon causes floods in several Indian states at a time, every year. Mapping multiple states at a time needs lot of man power and expertise. Manual flood mapping process is a time consuming process. Automatic procedures, for delineating flood and generation of value added products from satellite images can reduce the critical time-span. In the present study, an attempt is made to automate the entire flood mapping chain. The prototype study, is demonstrated for the state of Assam and the modules developed are tested for the multiple flood events during the Brahmaputra floods of August–September, 2016. The modules are checked for each stage and their outputs are validated with those as derived from manual procedures. The study has demonstrated significant reduction in the turn out time for flood response, which is very important during rapid disaster response.

Family Ownership and Dividend Policy: Evidence from India

RAJVERMA, Abhinav,MISRA, Arun Kumar,KUMAR, Gaurav Korea Distribution Science Association 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.9

The article examines the ownership structure and dividend payout behavior of India-listed firms using a panel regression approach. It focuses on family ownership and examines why dividend payouts of family firms differ from non-family firms. The study finds that family firms dominate and have concentrated ownership using data from the NSE-listed regular dividend-paying firms. Although family ownership concentration is high among Indian firms, these firms are not concerned about distributing cash as dividends. Instead, these firms focus on retaining and passing on control from one generation to the next. The evidence shows that family firms pay low dividends and have higher leverage than non-family counterparts. The results support the entrenchment of minority shareholders and the proposition that a high payout signals a reduction in the information asymmetry and level of risk. The study further illustrates that cash dividends tend to reduce the level of risk perceived; however, (cash dividend) leads to the deterioration firm's liquidity and aid in the shrinking of cash among emerging market firms. The originality of the paper lies in factoring ownership concentration while explaining the dividend behaviour from an emerging markets perspective, characterized by high private benefits and weak protection for external minority shareholders.

Parametric resonance of composite skew plate under non-uniform in-plane loading

Rajesh Kumar,Abhinav Kumar,Sarat Kumar Panda 국제구조공학회 2015 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.55 No.2

Parametric resonance of shear deformable composite skew plates subjected to non-uniform (parabolic) and linearly varying periodic edge loading is studied for different boundary conditions. The skew plate structural model is based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT), which accurately predicts the numerical results for thick skew plate. The total energy functional is derived for the skew plates from total potential energy and kinetic energy of the plate. The strain energy which is the part of total potential energy contains membrane energy, bending energy, additional bending energy due to additional change in curvature and shear energy due to shear deformation, respectively. The total energy functional is solved using Rayleigh-Ritz method in conjunction with boundary characteristics orthonormal polynomials (BCOPs) functions. The orthonormal polynomials are generated for unit square domain using Gram- Schmidt orthogonalization process. Bolotin method is followed to obtain the boundaries of parametric resonance region with higher order approximation. These boundaries are traced by the periodic solution of Mathieu-Hill equations with period T and 2T. Effect of various parameters like skew angle, span-tothickness ratio, aspect ratio, boundary conditions, static load factor on parametric resonance of skew plate have been investigated. The investigation also includes influence of different types of linearly varying loading and parabolically varying bi-axial loading.

      • Design and Performance Study of a Hot Water Driven 5 TR Capacity Absorption Cooling System

        Anil Sharma,Bimal Kumar Mishra,Abhinav Dinesh,Ashok Misra 보안공학연구지원센터 2014 International Journal of u- and e- Service, Scienc Vol.7 No.6

Use of high grade electrical energy, generated from fossil fuels, for cooling has increased environmental concerns like global warming and ozone layer depletion. Hence, there is a need to reduce dependence on them and explore potential environmental friendly options. In this aspect, vapor absorption system has scope of utilizing low grade energy source i.e. hot water from solar panel, to generate cooling effect and are environment friendly as no chloro-floro-carbons are used. The most usual combination of absorber refrigerant pair in such system is lithium bromide water (LiBr–H2O), where water vapor is the refrigerant. In present work, a hot water driven, single stage, absorption cooling system, using a lithium bromide water solution, is analyzed for determining the effect of various parameters on coefficient of performance (COP). Four basic stages in the absorption cycle are generation, condensation, evaporation and absorption with ideally no moving part. A configuration of theses four stages, having 5 TR cooling capacity is determined and examined for the variation in COP corresponds to the change in pressure and concentration. The pressure parameter is varied in condenser and evaporator, resulting graph shows that the increment in pressure of evaporator increases the COP whereas increment of pressure in condenser decreases the COP. At lower inlet concentration of LiBr solution to the absorber gives increment in COP.

Current updates in acute traumatic aortic injury: radiologic diagnosis and management

        Shivani Gupta,Atin Kumar,Tejinder Kaur,Shivanand Gamanagatti,Abhinav Kumar,Amit Gupta,Subodh Kumar 대한응급의학회 2022 Clinical and Experimental Emergency Medicine Vol.9 No.2

Acute traumatic aortic injuries, which have substantial lethal outcomes at the time of admission, are fatal in 80% to 90% of cases. These injuries are relatively rare and have nonspecific clinical presentations. Radiologists and emergency physicians need to identify the radiological signs of acute traumatic aortic injury and differentiate them from common imaging errors to ensure accurate diagnosis and determine appropriate management protocols. In combination with image-guided interventions, advances in cross-sectional imaging have enabled nonsurgical management of acute traumatic aortic injuries. Timely and precise diagnoses of these injuries following prompt treatment are essential as up to 90% of patients presenting at the hospital can undergo early repair.

      • Effect of GGBS and fly ash on mechanical strength of self-compacting concrete containing glass fibers

        Kumar, Ashish,Singh, Abhinav,Bhutani, Kapil Techno-Press 2021 Advances in concrete construction Vol.12 No.5

In the era of building engineering the intensification of Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) is world-shattering magnetism. It has lot of rewards over ordinary concrete i.e., enrichment in production, cutback in manpower, brilliant retort to load and vibration along with improved durability. In the present study, the mechanical strength of CM-2 (SCC containing 10% of rice husk ash (RHA) as cement replacement and 600 grams of glass fibers per cubic meter) was investigated at various dosages of cement replacement by fly ash (FA) and GGBS. A total of 17 SCC mixtures including two control SCC mixtures (CM-1 and CM-2) were developed for investigating fresh and hardened properties in which, ten ternary cementitious blends of SCC by blending OPC+RHA+FA, OPC+RHA+GGBS and five quaternary cementitious blends (OPC+RHA+FA+GGBS) at different replacement dosages of FA and GGBS were developed with reference to CM-2. For constant water-cement ratio (0.42) and dosage of SP (2.5%), the addition of glass fibers (600 grams/m3) in CM-1 i.e., CM-2 shows lower workability but higher mechanical strength. While fly ash based ternary blends (OPC+RHA+FA) show better workability but lower mechanical strength as FA content increases in comparison to GGBS based ternary blends (OPC+RHA+GGBS) on increasing GGBS content. The pattern for mixtures appeared to exhibit higher workablity as that of the concentration of FA+GGBS rises in quaternary blends (OPC+RHA+FA+GGBS). A decrease in compressive strength at 7-days was noticed with an increase in the percentage of FA and GGBS as cement replacement in ternary and quaternary blended mixtures with respect to CM-2. The highest 28-days compressive strength (41.92 MPa) was observed for mix QM-3 and the lowest (33.18 MPa) for mix QM-5.

NEXAFS and XMCD studies of single-phase Co doped ZnO thin films

        Singh, Abhinav Pratap,Kumar, Ravi,Thakur, P,Brookes, N B,Chae, K H,Choi, W K IOP Pub 2009 Journal of Physics, Condensed Matter Vol.21 No.18

<P>A study of the electronic structure and magnetic properties of Co doped ZnO thin films synthesized by ion implantation followed by swift heavy ion irradiation is presented using near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements. The spectral features of NEXAFS at the Co L3,2-edge show entirely different features than that of metallic Co clusters and other Co oxide phases. The atomic multiplet calculations are performed to determine the valence state, symmetry and the crystal field splitting, which show that in the present system Co is in the 2+ state and substituted at the Zn site in tetrahedral symmetry with 10<I>Dq</I> = −0.6 eV. The ferromagnetic character of these materials is confirmed through XMCD spectra. To rule out the possibilities of defect induced magnetism, the results are compared with Ar annealed and Ar-ion implanted pure ZnO thin films. The presented results confirm the substitution of Co at the Zn site in the ZnO matrix, which is responsible for room temperature ferromagnetism.</P>
