Anti-parasitic activity of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles against Eimeria tenella in broilers experimentally infected

        Sadiya Aziz Anah,Saad Aziz Anah,Khadeeja Abees Hmood Al-Khalidy 대한수의학회 2022 大韓獸醫學會誌 Vol.62 No.4

In the study, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZNOPs) at concentrations of 20, 40, and 60 mg/kg were tested for their antimicrobial action against the oocysts of Eimeria tenella. The oocysts of E. tenella were isolated from the feces of broilers received at the veterinary hospital in Diwaniyah Province and initially diagnosed by compound optical microscopy. The oocysts were confirmed molecularly by polymerase chain reaction targeting the ITS1 gene with a molecular weight of 409 bp. The results in the first week showed that ZNOP concentrations of 20 and 40 mg/kg possess various activities against E. tenella, while 60 mg/kg was the most effective in reducing excreted oocysts compared to the positive control and amprolium group, along with the appearance of mild symptoms and a mortality rate of 0.8%. In the second week of infection, excreted oocysts and mortality rates generally decreased in all treated groups. A comparison of all groups showed that the 60 mg/kg ZNOP-treated group had a significantly lower number of excreted oocysts, and all birds in this group recovered during the second week of infection. These findings revealed the prospect of using ZNOPs against E. tenella in challenging situations of the appearance of resistance to anticoccidial agents.

Mutual Consideration as a Principle for Doing Politeness

        E. A. Aziz 한국외국어대학교 동남아연구소 2006 東南亞硏究 Vol.15 No.2

Mutual Consideration as a Principle for Doing PolitenessE Aminudin Aziz(Indonesia University of Education) There are various strategies used by people to show politeness in their language exchange, all of which are largely determined by the level of a speaker's perception about the potential risk of losing face resulted from his/her utterance. The provision of responses other than refusals to a request directed to a speaker at times his/her circumstances actually pressure him/her to make a refusal or refusing the request indirectly accompanied by a number of politeness markers can be regarded as examples of the speaker's strong willingness to maintain the (existing) harmony with the requester. In this paper, I will show how indirectness has become the norm for Indonesians when making refusals. This is clearly contrary to the claim made by non-Indonesians which often regard such a behavior as a sign of uncooperativeness and impoliteness. It appears that there are a number of cultural norms and values that govern their linguistic politeness behaviors which I shall formulate in a Principle of Mutual Consideration (PMC). Being a refinement to Grice's (1975) CP and to Leech's (1983) PP, PMC assumes three levels of politeness: pre-communicative politeness, on the spot politeness, and post-communicative politeness.

The Stimulus Factors Influencing Intention to Participate in Shopping during the Distribution of the 12.12 Online Shopping Festivals in Malaysia

        MAHMUDDIN Yasmin,ABDULLAH Mazilah,RAMDAN Mohamad Rohieszan,MOHD ANIM Nur Aqilah Hazirah,ABD AZIZ Nurul Ashykin,ABD AZIZ Nurul Aien,YAHAYA Rusliza,ABD AZIZ Noreen Noor 한국유통과학회 2022 유통과학연구 Vol.20 No.8

Purpose: Online shopping festivals have quickly become the newest trend in online shopping worldwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This has led to marketing distribution channels that traditionally emphasized traditional techniques having turned to electronic commerce platforms. Although the pandemic scenario encourages online purchasing, other factors, such as the influence of participation intention to shop during the Online Shopping Festival, must also be considered. Research design, data and methodology: Multiple linear regression analysis was used to test the hypothesis based on data from 121 respondents who are actively involved with online shopping activities in Klang Valley, Selangor. Results: The results of this study show that promotion categories and the perceived influence of mass participation have a significant influence on participation intention. Meanwhile, the perceived temptation of price promotion and perceived fun promotional activities did not significantly influence participation intention. Conclusions: Theoretically, this study contributes to the literature by using the Theory of Planned Behavior and Stimulus-Response models to explain the factors that drive participation intention for online shopping. In practice, this study attracts and encourages customers to shop during the festival day because various attractive promotions are offered by sellers in Malaysia

        Aziz Nasridinov,KyoungWook Kim,JeongYong Byun 한국정보과학회 2009 한국정보과학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.36 No.1D

Web services provide the possibility of dynamically integrating distributed service components scattered over the Internet to fulfill sophisticated business demands. However due to today’s wide variety of services offered to perform a specific task, it’s essential that users are supported in the eventual selection of appropriate services. An example of web services for which selection of appropriate service will be crucial is Auto Repair Services. Since, working quality of Auto Repair Services tightly depends on Auto Part Shops, selecting proper service from a variety of Auto Part Shops would be result of delivering high-quality service and minimizing Auto Repair Service customer’s waiting time. In this research to assist selecting proper service, we present ontology-based Functional-Level Mediator and illustrate its usage in matching customer’s and web service’s goals. Five matching cases have been analyzed and results from experiment have been shown. Also, by constructing composition of Multi-web services for the purchase order management scenario of Auto parts through the BPEL, we have significantly minimized customer’s waiting time at Auto Repair Service.

A Model for Correlation of Various Solvatochromic Parameters with Composition in Aqueous and Organic Binary Solvent Systems

Aziz, Habibi-Yangjeh Korean Chemical Society 2004 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.25 No.8

The applicability of the combined nearly ideal binary solvent/Redlich-Kister (CNIBS/R-K) equation for correlation of various solvatochromic parameters (SP) with composition is shown employing 84 experimental data sets for aqueous and organic binary solvent systems at temperatures ranging 15 to $75^{\circ}C$. The model provides a simple computational model to correlate/predict different SP values in various binary solvent systems. In proposed equations, $MPD_s$ (mean percentage deviations) are between 0.0500% and 6.9591% in mixtures of dimethyl sulfoxide with 2-methylpropan-2-ol and benzene with 2-methylpropan-2-ol, respectively. Correlation of the calculated and experimental values of various SP give an equation with an overall mean percentage deviation (OMPD) of 1.1900, $R^2$ = 0.99692, s.e = 0.01223 and F = 341925.51. Approximately 70% of the calculated SP values have IPD (individual percentage deviation) lower than one and it is possible to predict unmeasured SP values by using only eight experimental data.

      • Synergistic effect of UV pretreated Fe-ZSM-5 catalysts for heterogeneous catalytic complete oxidation of VOC: A technology development for sustainable use

Aziz, Abdul,Kim, Kwang Soo Elsevier 2017 Journal of hazardous materials Vol.340 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this work, the performance of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) removal and degradation from gas, air streams on UV pretreated Fe-ZSM-5 in a batch reactor at room temperature were studied. The Fe-ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst was prepared by hydrothermal reaction method. The influence of UV pre-irradiation time on the removal of BTEX were assessed by varying the time, ranging from 15min to 60smin. Then, sustainability of the activation of the catalyst resulted by UV pretreatment was studied by the four-cycle experiment with one time UV irradiation and after each cycle irradiation followed by BTEX removal after every cycle respectively. The results of BTEX removal depicted that 30min of UV pretreatment was sufficient for complete organics removal. The UV pretreatment effect on the catalytic oxidation and the stability of the catalyst were studied by modern instrumental techniques. The novelty of the process was the sustainable reuse of catalyst with persistent VOC removal, which works on the -adsorption-oxidation-regeneration-adsorption- cycle, which was confirmed by the characterization studies of the catalyst after four runs. The results revealed that the change in the structure, stability, morphology, and removal efficiency of the catalyst during the experiments was negligible. The VOC degradation mechanism studies showed that the oxidation occurs due to the formation of free radicals as well as hydroxyl ions, so named it heterogeneous photo-Fenton oxidation. The residual materials analysis showed the complete mineralization of VOC except small amount of acetone as oxidation product. Lastly, the kinetics of the VOC removal was studied.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> UV pretreatment of the catalyst activate the surface for oxidation of pollutants. </LI> <LI> Complete mineralization of VOC occurred followed by adsorption. </LI> <LI> we want to represent (.OH) as hydroxyl radical showing with free radical means one dot on the OH group OH and OH we want to present this OH group as Hydroxyl ion with negative charge (OH(-)) are main radicals responsible for the degradation of VOC. </LI> <LI> The heterogeneous photo-Fenton process is sustainable for multiple reuse of the catalyst. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • Anti-inflammatory effects of luteolin: A review of in vitro, in vivo, and in silico studies

Aziz, Nur,Kim, Mi-Yeon,Cho, Jae Youl Elsevier 2018 Journal of Ethnopharmacology Vol.225 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Ethnopharmacological relevance</B></P> <P>Luteolin (3′, 4′, 5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone) has been identified as commonly present in plants. Plants with a high luteolin content have been used ethnopharmacologically to treat inflammation-related symptoms. Both isolated luteolin and extracts from luteolin-rich plants have been studied using various models and exhibited anti-inflammatory activity.</P> <P><B>Aim of the review</B></P> <P>This paper uses recent research findings with a broad range of study models to describe the anti-inflammatory activity of luteolin, particularly its mechanisms at the molecular level; provide guidance for future research; and evaluate the feasibility of developing luteolin into an anti-inflammatory drug.</P> <P><B>Materials and methods</B></P> <P>We summarize reports about the anti-inflammatory activity of luteolin published since 2009, which we found in MEDLINE/PubMed, Scopus, Web of Knowledge, and Google Scholar. To acquire broad information, we extended our search to online FDA documents.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Luteolin is a flavonoid commonly found in medicinal plants and has strong anti-inflammatory activity <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I>. Some of its derivatives, such as luteolin-7-O-glucoside, have also shown anti-inflammatory activity. The action mechanism of luteolin varies, but Src in the nuclear factor (NF)-κB pathway, MAPK in the activator protein (AP)− 1 pathway, and SOCS3 in the signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 <B>(</B>STAT3) pathway are its major target transcription factors. A clinical trial with a formulation containing luteolin showed excellent therapeutic effect against inflammation-associated diseases.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P> <I>In silico</I>, <I>in vitro</I>, <I>in vivo</I>, and clinical studies strongly suggest that the major pharmacological mechanism of luteolin is its anti-inflammatory activity, which derives from its regulation of transcription factors such as STAT3, NF-κB, and AP-1. Much work remains to ensure the safety, quality, and efficacy of luteolin before it can be used to treat inflammation-related diseases in humans.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Prediction of Solvent Effects on Rate Constant of [2+2] Cycloaddition Reaction of Diethyl Azodicarboxylate with Ethyl Vinyl Ether Using Artificial Neural Networks

Aziz Habibi-Yangjeh*,Mahdi Nooshyar 대한화학회 2005 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.26 No.1

Artificial neural networks (ANNs), for a first time, were successfully developed for the modeling and prediction of solvent effects on rate constant of [2+2] cycloaddition reaction of diethyl azodicarboxylate with ethyl vinyl ether in various solvents with diverse chemical structures using quantitative structure-activity relationship. The most positive charge of hydrogen atom (q+), dipole moment (μ), the Hildebrand solubility parameter (δH 2) and total charges in molecule (qt) are inputs and output of ANN is log k2 . For evaluation of the predictive power of the generated ANN, the optimized network with 68 various solvents as training set was used to predict log k2 of the reaction in 16 solvents in the prediction set. The results obtained using ANN was compared with the experimental values as well as with those obtained using multi-parameter linear regression (MLR) model and showed superiority of the ANN model over the regression model. Mean square error (MSE) of 0.0806 for the prediction set by MLR model should be compared with the value of 0.0275 for ANN model. These improvements are due to the fact that the reaction rate constant shows non-linear correlations with the descriptors.

      • Battery-Less Location Tracking for Internet of Things: Simultaneous Wireless Power Transfer and Positioning

        Aziz, Arif Abdul,Ginting, Lorenz,Setiawan, Dedi,Park, Je Hyeon,Tran, Nguyen Minh,Yeon, Gyu Yang,Kim, Dong In,Choi, Kae Won IEEE 2019 IEEE Internet of things journal Vol.6 No.5

<P>We propose a battery-less location tracking system that enables 3-D positioning of an Internet of Things (IoT) device powered by the radio frequency (RF) wireless power transfer (WPT). In the proposed system, a power beacon is equipped with a phased antenna array that has the dual purposes of high-efficiency WPT and phase-based accurate positioning. In order to enhance the efficiency of the RF WPT, we propose a beam focusing algorithm that dynamically controls the respective phases of antenna elements to place the focal point of the electro-magnetic (EM) wave onto the target IoT device. We also propose a phase-based positioning algorithm that requires only one multiantenna anchor point for determining the distance as well as the direction from the anchor point. We analyze the Cramer–Rao lower bound (CRLB) of the phase-based positioning with a single multiantenna anchor point, and show that the distance from the anchor point can be estimated as long as the IoT device lies within the radiative near-field region. We propose a joint location tracking and WPT algorithm that performs 3-D positioning and beam-focused WPT in a unified way. We have built a real-life testbed with a large-scale antenna array with 64 antenna elements for testing the proposed algorithm. The experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in a real environment.</P>
