We investigated the reproductive capacity of starry flounder Platichthys stellatus from the Uljin (UJ) marine ranching area and compared it to that of P. stellatus from the coastal waters of Pohang (PH). In UJ, female gonadosomatic index (GSI) peaked in October (3.14±0.87) and male GSI was high in October and December. In PH, female GSI peaked in January (18.64±2.15) while male GSI began to increase in October and remained high until March. Most ovaries of UJ females were immature with perinucleus oocytes, although the testes of UJ males were ripe in January. Both the ovaries and testes of PH starry flounders were ripe from January to March. The plasma estradiol-17b (E2) levels of UJ females were highest in October (4.09±1.90ng/mL) although the testosterone (T) levels of UJ males were highest in December (3.81±0.78ng/mL) and decreased gradually until April. The 17a, 20b-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (17α20βP) levels of UJ females were not detected. The E2 levels of PH females were highest in December (36.25±33.07ng/mL) and 17a20bP levels were highest in March (5.51±0.95ng/mL). The T levels of PH males were highest in December (4.03±1.34ng/mL) and decreased gradually until October. Taken together, these results suggest that most females from UJ did not reach maturation with a spawning period that was considered to be between December and January.
이산화탄소 노출에 따른 두줄망둑(Tridentiger trigonocephalus)의 번식 특성 변화

We investigated the effect of CO<sub>2</sub> exposure on the reproductive process of chameleon goby Tridentiger trigonocephalus. Rearing aquaria were exposed for 90 days to CO<sub>2</sub> gas through diffuser connected with pH controller maintaining at pH 7.2 (156.31±7.90 ppm) in low treatment, and at pH 6.5 (274.17±6.51 ppm) in high treatment. CO<sub>2</sub> treatment had no significant effects on survival rates although the value was decreased compared to the controls. In female fish, CO<sub>2</sub> treatment had no significant effects on gonadosomatic index (GSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI) and condition factor (CF). However, high CO<sub>2</sub> treatment decreased HSI and CF in males significantly compared to the controls (P<0.05). The spawning occurrence was 6 times in the low level CO<sub>2</sub> treatment, and 4 times in the high level CO<sub>2</sub> treatment although only once in the controls. For the histological observations, there was no significant difference in CO<sub>2</sub> treatments. However, in male fish, CO<sub>2</sub> treatment delayed the formation of sperm from spermatid compared to controls. These results suggest CO<sub>2</sub> may disrupt reproductive process by delaying gametogenesis in chameleon goby and it was more sensitive in males.

An efficient method is developed for plunger thermal cycle analysis in repeated forming process of the TV glass. The plunger undergoes temperature fluctuation during a cycle due to the repeated contact and separation from the glass, which attains a cyclic steady state having same temperature history at every cycle. Straightforward analysis of this problem brings about more than 80 cycles to get reasonable solution, and yet hard to setup stopping criteria due to extremely slow convergence. An exponential fitting method is proposed to overcome the difficulty, which finds exponential function to best approximate temperature values of 3 consecutive cycles, and new cycle is restarted with the fitted value at infinite time. Numerical implementation shows that it reduces the number of cycles dramatically to only 6-18 cycles to reach convergence within 10 accuracy. A system for the analysis is constructed, in which the thermal analysis is performed by commercial software ANSYS, and the fitting of the result is done by IMSL library. From the parametric studies, one reveals some important facts that although the plunger cooling or the glass thickness is increased, its counter part in contact is not much affected, duo to the low thermal conductance of the glass.

Hyperlipidemia is one of the major factors causing the atherosclerosis of coronary arteries and well-documented modifiable risk factors of stroke, especially of the ischemic type. For Insulin-Dependent Diabetes Mellitus sufferers, if blood sugar is appropriately maintained, lipid and lipoprotein are normal, but if blood sugar is inappropriately maintained or clinical Diabetic nephropathy induces metabolic disorder of lipid, then Total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglyceride and very low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels go up and high density lipoprotein levels go down. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of treatment with Ojeok-san and to observe the changes in Fasting Blood Sugar(FBS), 2 Hours Postprandial Blood Sugar(PP2h), Haemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), Total Cholesterol(T-Chol) and Triglyceride(TG). After the treatment, Fasting Blood Sugar decreased from 149mg/dl to 89mg/dl. 2 Hours Postprandial Blood Sugar decreased from l85mg/dl to 110mg/dl. Haemoglobin A1c decreased from 6.3% to 5.7%. Total Cholesterol decreased from 268mg/dl to 217mg/dl. And Triglyceride decreased from 438mg/dl to 265mg/dl. These results support a role for oriental medical therapy in treating Diabetic Hyperlipidemia. Further case studies of herbal treatment of this ailment are needed.
