In this study, the ginseng sprout has produced through smart farm was classified according to its size and divided into above-ground (AG) and below-ground (BG) parts to compare ginsenoside contents and antioxidant activity. In the case of the AG part, the total phenolic contents were the highest at 5.16 mg/ g in medium (M) size and the lowest at 2.23 mg/g in largest (L) size. The BG part also showed the highest content in the M size, but there was no significant difference. Also, the total flavonoid contents were also high in the M size in both the AG (5.16 mg/ g) and BG (1.28 mg/g) parts. The major ginsenosides in the AG part were Re (20.33-24.15 mg/g) > Rd (11.36-27.42 mg/g) > Rg1 (4.48-5.54 mg/g) and the main ginsenosides in the BG part were Rb1 (5.09-8.61 mg/g) > Re (4.48-5.54 mg/g) > Rc (3.11-4.11 mg/ g) in orders. In the case of M size, Re and Rd were approximately 4- and 19-folds higher at 24.15 mg/g and at 27.42 mg/g in the AG part and 5.20 mg/g and 1.43 mg in the BG part, respectively. In addition, F3 and Rh1 were detected in the AG part, but not in the BG part. 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (74.95%), 2,4,6-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphnoic acid) diammonium salt (94.47%), and hydroxyl (70.39%) radical scavenging activities and FRAP (2.169) assay were the highest in M size than other sizes.

A study was conducted to investigate the behavior of pollutants forms at each area in the sewage treatment plant by natural purification method. The sewage treatment plant by natural purification method that consisted of aerobic and anaerobic area was constructed. The efficiency of sewage treatment depending on the operation time, the loading amount of pollutant, season variation were investigated. The removal amount of BOD, COD, TOC and SS in the aerobic area was significantly increased as the treatment proceeded. Decreased BOD, COD, TOC, SS, T-N and T-P depending on the loading amount of pollutants in the aerobic and ananerobic area were mostly insoluble BOD (IBOD), insoluble COD (ICOD), soluble TOC (STOC), volatile SS (VSS), dissolved T-N (DTN) and dissolved T-N (DTP) types, respectively. The removal efficiency of BOD, COD, TOC, SS, T-N and T-P in hot season (summer and autumn) were more than that in cold season (spring and winter). The removal efficiencies of BOD, COD, TOC, SS, T-N and T-P of the effluent were about 92, 89, 73, 95, 46 and 84% in all seasons, respectively.

IgG4-SC는 type 1 AIP의 가장 흔한 췌장 외 발현으로 type1 AIP 환자의 약 70%에서 발생하는 것으로 보고되었고 드물게 단독으로 발생하기도 한다. IgG4-SC의 진단은 임상적으로 매우 중요한데, 이는 영상 소견상 담관암과의 감별이 어렵기 때문이다. IgG4-SC의 경우, 스테로이드 투여로 회복될수 있다는 점에서 그 의의가 크다. 이번 증례 보고에서 저자들은 증상이 경미하고 영상 검사에서 IgG4-SC를 충분히 의심할만한 환자에서 조직검사 및 스테로이드 투여를 통해 담관암으로 확진된 증례를 경험하였기에 확진을 위한 생검의 중요성을 다시 강조하면서 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. IgG4-related sclerosing cholangitis (IgG4-SC) represents a rare but clinically challenging differential diagnosis in patients with biliary strictures which can be mistaken for cholangiocarcinoma. We present a case of a 73-year-old male presented with abdominal discomfort and weight loss. Biliary images showed long-segment luminal narrowing of extrahepatic bile duct associated with prominent enhanced wall thickening, but luminal patency was preserved. Pancreatic images revealed segmental irregular narrowing of main pancreatic duct without upstream duct dilatation. His liver function tests and CA19-9 level were normal. Putting all findings together, IgG4-SC associated with autoimmune pancreatitis was strongly suspected. However, endobiliary biopsy of extrahepatic bile duct revealed adenocarcinoma which was not resectable due to celiac axis involvement. Because there is an overlap in biliary imaging findings between IgG4-SC and cholangiocarcinoma, biopsy is essential for adequate differential diagnosis. 메타세콰이어 나무 열매와 잎을 기능성식품 소재로 활용하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하기 위하여 화학성분 및 항산화활성을 조사하였다. 열매와 잎의 가용성 무질소물의 함량은 각각 69.04% 및 50.47%로 나타났으며, 열매의 총 페놀성 화합물 함량은 19.95 mg/GAE g이었고, 잎의 총 페놀성 화합물의 함량은 21.75 mg/GAE g으로 열매보다 잎에서 높은 함량을 보였다. 열매와 잎에 많이 함유되어 있는 무기성분으로는 Ca(2,136.08와 304.85 mg/100 g), K(1,355.53와 1,144.04mg/100 g) 및 P(426.30와 350.50 mg/100 g)이었다. 아미노산은 aspartic acid, glutamic acid 및 proline이 상대적으로 높았으며, 필수아미노산 중에서는 leucine이 상대적으로 높은 비율을 보였고, methionine과 cystine은 낮은 함량을 보였다. 메타세콰이어 열매와 잎의 열수 추출물을 이용하여 라디칼 소거활성 및 환원력을 조사한 결과 농도 의존적인 경향을 보였으며, 특히 잎 열수 추출물에서 높은 항산화 활성을 보였다. 따라서 메타세콰이어나무 잎의 폴리페놀성 화합물은 천연항산화제와 같은 기능성식품 소재로 활용가능성이 매우 높을 것으로 생각된다. The nutrients and antioxidative activities of fruits and leaves from Metasequoia glyptostroboides were investigated to provide basic data for the future development of functional foods. The nitrogen-free extract contents of fruit and leaves were 69.04% and 50.47%, respectively. Total phenolic content was higher in leaves (21.75mg/GAE g) compared to the fruit (19.95 mg/GAE g). The mineral components of fruit and leaves mainly consisted of calcium (2,136.08 and 304.85 mg/100 g, respectively), potassium (1,355.53 and 1,144.04 mg/100 g, respectively), and phosphorous (426.30 and 350.50 mg/100 g, respectively). In terms of amino acid composition, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, proline, and leucine were relatively high, but methionine and cystine were low. The hot water extract from leaves was a more potent free radical-scavenger and had higher reducing activities than extracts from fruit. Thus, phenolics of M. glyptostroboides leaves can be utilized as an effective functional food substance for its natural antioxidant properties.

Behavior and decomposition velocity of pollutants on various forms from domestic sewage in sewage treatment plant were investigated in order to obtain the basic data for improving the removal efficiency of pollutants and to reduce the area in constructed wetland by natural purification method. The removal amounts of BODs and CODs in aerobic bed were significantly higher than those of the other beds. In aerobic bed, the removal amounts of IBOD and ICOD were more than those for SBOD and SCOD, respectively, whereas the removal amounts of BODs and CODs in anoxic and anaerobic beds were little different. The removal amounts of SSs in aerobic bed were also higher than those for the other beds, and the removal amounts of VSS in all beds were more than those for FSS. The removal amounts of DTN and DTP in all beds were more than those for STN and STP, respectively. In addition, the decomposition velocities of TBOD, TCOD and TSS in aerobic bed were 30.79, 17.15 and 29.96 day-1. Moreover, the decomposition velocities of BODs, CODs and SSs in aerobic bed were very rapid than those in the other beds. On the other hand, the decomposition velocities of BODs, CODs and SSs in anoxic and anaerobic beds were a little different regardless of the forms of pollutant. The decomposition velocities constants of T-N in aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic beds were 4.78, 0.12 and 0.10 day-1, respectively. Moreover, the decomposition velocities constants of T-P in aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic beds were 13.09, 0.12 and 0.13 day-1 respectively. The decomposition velocity of T-Ns and T-Ps in aerobic bed were slightly rapid than those in the other beds, whereas the decomposition velocities of T-Ns and T-Ps in anoxic and anaerobic beds were slightly different regardless of the forms of pollutant.

A 64-year-old woman was admitted with vertebral osteomyelitis and polyarthritis (both knees and the right shoulder). She had had no health problems before these conditions developed. Joint culture grew methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. During hospitalization, hematuria, proteinuria, azotemia, and decreased C3 were reported. The renal biopsy showed mesangial proliferative glomerulonephritis with C3 and IgA co-dominant deposits on immunofluorescence staining. Following incision and drainage of the right shoulder and right knee, and intravenous vancomycin for 15 weeks, the C-reactive protein, proteinuria, hematuria, and C3 level all normalized. Here, we report a case of Staphylococcus-associated glomerulonephritis with a brief review of the literature. (Korean J Med 2016;90:148-153)
