Mahaenggamsuk-tang (MHGS) has been widely used in Korea and China for the treatment of various diseases. MHGS was constituted the Ephedrea Herba, Armenicae Semen, Glycyrrhizae Radix and Gypsum Fibrosum. In this study, we have made three different solvents extract as MHGS water extract (MHGS-W), MHGS 50% EtOH extract (MHGS-50E), and MHGS 100% EtOH extract (MHGS-100E). The MHGS-W, MHGS-50E and MHGS-100E showed the discernible difference patterns on HPLC analysis. Furthermore, MHGS-50E and MHGS-100E significantly increased the DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging effects than MHGS-W. In addition, the MHGS-50E and MHGS-100E also inhibited significantly nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production, and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) protein expression in RAW264.7. On the other hand, MHGS-50E and MHGS-W showed remarkable protection on the HT22 cell via heme oxygenase (HO)-1, but MHGS-100E did not show. The results of this study proved that MHGS-50E has greater potential therapeutic uses by exerting antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects compared to MHGS-100E, MHGS-W. Our study suggests that the different solvent might be affected the biological activities when make the traditional herbal medicines including MHGS.
Pectin nanogels formed by photo-crosslinking for transdermal drug delivery

Transdermal drug delivery is a non-invasive drug administration by bypassing the first metabolism, resulting in high efficacy as well as great convenience. However, the skin penetration of drugs is challenging because of barrier function of stratum corneum of so-called ‘brick-and-mortar’ structure. Pectin that is derived from plant cell wall is a biocompatible polysaccharide and widely used in pharmaceutics and food industry. In this work, pectin nanogels were fabricated via photo-crosslinking and characterized. The prepared pectin nanogels has a uniform size of ~200 nm and good cytocompatibility. In addition, in skin penetration test using a Franz diffusion cell, the nanogels were delivered into dermis through stratum corneum, indicating the pectin nanogel has a great potential as a transdermal drug carrier.
중년남성의 건강증진행위에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to figure out general characteristics, health perception, self-efficacy, and family support influencing on health promotion behavior of middle-aged male. Method: In this descriptive correlation design study, 320 middle-aged male were recruited through convenient sampling between October and December, 2015. Questionnaires used for this study were HPLP(Health Promotion Lifestyle Profile), HPS(Health perception Scale), Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Hong, and Family Support Scale developed by Park. Data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 22.0 program with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one way ANOVA with Scheffe's test, and multiple linear regression. Result: It had significant influence to correlation among health promotion behavior, health perception, self-efficacy, and family support of middle-aged male. Also, the most influenced factor to health promotion behavior showed health perception. Conclusion: The result of this study suggested that health perception significantly influenced to health promotion behavior. Therefore, health perception educating program for health promotion behavior of middle-aged male. And further studies are required with more sample of various group and systematic data collecting methods to confirm these results.
