LONG-SLIT SPECTROSCOPY OF PARSEC-SCALE JETS FROM DG TAURI

We present the observational results from optical long-slit spectroscopy of parsec-scale jets of DG Tau. From HH 158 and HH 702, the optical emission lines of \Ha, \OI~$\lambda\lambda$6300, 6363, \NII~$\lambda\lambda$6548, 6584, and \SII~$\lambda\lambda$6716, 6731 were obtained. The kinematics and physical properties (electron density, electron temperature, ionization fraction, and mass-loss rate) are investigated along the blueshifted jet up to 650$\arcsec$ distance from the source. For the HH 158, the radial velocity range is $-$50 to $-$250 km s$^{-1}$. The proper motion of knots is 0.196 $-$ 0{\farcs}272 yr$^{-1}$. The electron density is $\sim$10$^{4}$ cm$^{-3}$ close to the star and decreases to $\sim$10$^{2}$ cm$^{-3}$ at 14$\arcsec$ away from the star. Ionization fraction indicates that the gas is almost neutral in the vicinity of the source. It increases up to over 0.4 along the distance. The HH 702 is located at ~650$\arcsec$ from the source. It shows $\sim$ $-$80 km s$^{-1}$ in the radial velccity. Its line ratios are similar to those at knot C of HH 158. The mass-loss rate is estimated about $\sim$ 10$^{-7}$ $M_{\odot}$ yr$^{-1}$, which is similar with the values from previous studies.

We developed a real-time CCD photometric program for IBM PC compatibles. This program can perform several functions necessary for CCD photometry such as telescope control. filter rotation, CCD camera control and data acquisition, two-dimensional image processing, simple aperture photometry and automatic differential photometry. The image processing of a spiral galaxy M51 observed with the SNU 61cm reflector shows a well developed spiral structure. Simple aperture photometric results of 14 stars in open cluster NGC 6871 almost accorded with those from IRAF/APPHOT. And we could confirm the light variation of eclipsing binary EM Cep by simultaneous automatic differential photometry of 7stars in NGC 7160. Due to the excellence in the precision and efficiency of automatic differential photometry using CCD. this program is very useful for the study of small amplitude ${\delta}$ Sct type variables and of the photometric stability of B ${\sim}$ F type stars.

We observed impact spots on Jupiter which were formed by the collision with fragments of Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet during the period from 17 July to 13 August, by using the SNU 61cm reflector combined with CCD camera and DBVRI filters. In order to get more clear image of impact spots, the observed data were processed by the unsharp masking method, high-pass filtering method and Richardson-Lucy algorithm after the basic processing through IRAF package. The sizes of impact spots range from 2000km to 1000km, and from this size, the original size of comet fragments before collision with Jupiter is estimated to be less than ${\sim}3km$. From the observed rotating rate of impact spots, the rotational period of Jupiter is determined as $9^h$ $56^m$ $32^s$ at the southern latitude of $47^{\circ}{\sim}49^{\circ}$.
