The basal cell adenoma of the parotid gland is rare benign disease, first described and adequately documented as a distinctive tumor from benigh mixed tumors (pleomorphic adenoma) by Kleinsasser and Klein in 1967. This tumors is an isomorphic epithelial tumor of salivery gland, characteristic of absence of myoepithelial cells which are present in pleomorphic adenoma and other salivery gland tumors. Clinicopathologically the tumors is very difficult to differentiate with pleomorphic adenoma or adenoid cysticㆍcarcinoma. The prognosis is excellent by complete extirpation of the tumor. The present report presents two cases of basal cell adenoma of the parotid gland seen in 63 year old man and 71 year old man in one-year period at Department of Surgery, Yonsei University College of Medicine.

As social demand on the improved performance of concrete is consistently increased, the researches on fiber reinforced concrete have also been actively conducted till this moment. Especially, steel fibers are easy to produce, have homogeneous material properties, and can be easily mixed with concrete, on which many studies were forced. The steel fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC) has improved performance in tensile strength, crack control ability, and ductile failure modes, which leads to have the greater shear strength of flexural members. Most analysis or experimental studies on shear of SFRC beams, however, have been focussed on shear strength prediction, and few investigations on shear transfer mechanism of SFRC at crack surface is available. Thus, in this study, 15 SFRC direct shear specimens were fabricated and tested with primary parameters of compressive strength and steel fiber volume fraction. Based on the test results, the constitutive equations for shear behaviour of SFRC at crack surfaces were proposed, which showed good agreements to test results.

Esophagogastrostomy has become the accepted procedure of the reconstruction following resection for the esophageal carcinoma. But it has serious complication of anastomotic leakage about 10% that was thought to be responsible for more than half of the postoperative deaths. Recently the incidence of this complication decreased to about 3.5% after using the stapling instrument. 17 patients, who received esophagogastrostomy after esophagectomy due to carcinoma and lye stricture of the esophagus, from the January 1977 to October 1986 at Department of Surgery, Yonsei University College of Medicine. The results were as followed. 1) The manual anastomosis was performed in 11 cases and the stapled anastomosis in 6 cases. 2) The operative mortality was 5.9% 3) The complications of manual anastomosis were; anastomotic leakage in 2 cases (18%), stricture in anastomotic site in 3 cases (27%), pneumonia in 3 cases (27%), gastroesophageal reflux in 1 case (9%) and wound infection in 1 case (9%). The transhiatal esophagectomy was performed in 3 cases and the complications of this procedure were bleeding and pneumothorax in 1 case. 4) The complications of stapled anastomosis were; pneumonia in 2 cases (33%), stricture in anastomotic site in 1 case (17%) and wound infection in 1 case (17%). The leakage from the anastomotic site was not found. As substitute for esophagus, stomach is advantageous for it's simplicity, and excellent blood supply. And the stapled anastomosis appears to be safer than manual suturing for patients undergoing esophageal reconstruction.
