Photoinduced charge-carrier dynamics of PTCDI/reduced graphene oxide core/shell nanowires

The development of organic phototransistors (OPTs) based on p-n junction core-shell structure enables to understand charge-transport phenomena as they exhibit unique photoresponses according to the effective electrical or optoelectronic interplay between core and shell materials. Moreover, multicomponent core/shell nanowires (NWs) can provide efficient charge-transport property, higher photoconductive gain with fast photoresponse due to the synergistic effect of core/shell geometry. To date, however, most of the reports on multicomponent system have utilized bulk thin-film based OPTs. Herein, we report core/shell NW-OPTs using a high-performance n-channel organic semiconductor, BPE-PTCDI, and reduced graphene oxide. The reverse trend on charge-transport behaviors under light on-and-off switching compared to pure BPE-PTCDI NW-OPTs is systematically analyzed with charge-carrier decay/growth dynamics and charge compensation rate calculations.
