The metaverse is expected to evolve into an immersive environment based on photorealistic stereoscopic imaging to integrate real and virtual worlds. To transition from flat images to immersive stereoscopic images, such as light fields and holograms, a continuous cycle of technological development should be reached in media, content, and device technologies, ranging from acquisition and generation to transmission and synthesis as well as reproduction and interaction. Additionally, owing to the multitude of components involved in the metaverse, proper service realization will be challenging without concurrent advancements in computing and communication technologies that facilitate the integration of such components. We introduce research and development trends in media, contents, and devices at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute toward the next generation of stereoscopic images.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become the hottest topic in information and communications technology (ICT) in recent years. Along with the advancement of AI technology, technologies such as big data, cloud, and high-speed wired and wireless communication are being applied to existing media areas in earnest, affecting all parts of the media value chain from content production to consumption. AI technology is now spreading across the media industry faster than any other industry. In the future, the gap between those with and without AI technology will widen, further deepening the polarization of the media ecosystem. Media intelligence, which combines media and AI technologies, is now perceived as essential, not optional. In this paper, we examine the current status of technology development and standardization by major domestic and foreign institutions on how AI is being utilized in the media industry. In addition, we discuss what technology should be developed to lead media intelligence.

Natural and social disasters, such as typhoons, floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, fires, explosions, and traffic accidents occur frequently around the world. In Korea, a vicious cycle of large-scale accidents caused by natural disasters and insensitivity to safety is repeated each year. In particular, the tragic sinking of the Sewol ferry in 2014 and strong earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.0 and greater in Gyeongju and Pohang in 2016 and 2017, respectively, threw the entire country into a state of shock, increasing the public anxiety regarding disaster preparedness. This paper discusses the trends in broadcast emergency alert systems used to minimize damage from a disaster by delivering urgent status information quickly and accurately through a broadcast network, and to provide information regarding disaster risk and emergency evacuation procedures.

케이블방송망은 광대역을 가진 유선망이라는 매체 특성으로 동일한 망을 이용하여 방송뿐만 아니라 통신까지 제공할 수 있는 양방향 방송서비스를 가능케 하는 방송통신 융합을 위한 최적의 망으로 거론되고 있다. 서비스 관점에서 케이블방송망은 도입초기 단순히 지상파 방송의 난시청 해소를 위한 수단이었으나 프로그램 공급업자와 종합 유선 방송국의 등장으로 독립적인 방송 매체로 발전하였으며, 북미 주도하에 1990년대 중반 통신법이 개정된 이후 양방향 고속 데이터서비스를 제공할 수 있는 방안으로 케이블 모뎀(CM: Cable Modem)을 개발하여 방송과 통신을 동시에 수용하는 통합망으로 발전시켜왔다. 최근 케이블방송은 전송 효율 고도화, 망 구조적 진화 및 대용량 콘텐츠 전송으로 크게 3개의 방향으로 발전을 거듭하고 있다. 본고에서는 각 발전 방향에서 제시하는 차세대 케이블방송의 기술개발 및 표준화 동향에 대해 살펴보고자 한다.
아스팔트 및 강화노반의 두께 변화에 따른 아스팔트 직결궤도의 내구수명 평가 기초연구

아스팔트 직결궤도는 평탄성 확보가 쉽고 별도의 충전층이 없이 신속한 시공이 가능하다. 또한 선로유실과 지반침하 등의 문제 발생 시 신속히 유지보수 할 수 있는 장점이 있다. 독일의 경우 베를린-하노버 구간의 아스팔트 직결궤도(ATD궤도)는 부설 이후 20년간 유지보수가 불필요하고 우수한 소음저감효과가 있는 것으로 보고하고 있다. 아스팔트 직결궤도는 열차하중이 침목 또는 패널로부터 아스팔트 노반에 직접 전달되는 구조로서 아스팔트 콘크리트 층의 두께 변화에 따라 상부노반에 작용하는 응력 및 아스팔트 노반 하부 변형률이 내구수명에 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 현재 개발되어 있는 아스팔트 직결궤도용 광폭 침목을 이용하여 아스팔트노반 및 강화노반의 두께 변화가 강화노반에 미치는 영향을 분석하고 목표 설계수명을 평가하고자 하였다. Directly fastened asphalt track is easy to secure flatness and possible to construct quickly without any special filler layer. It also has an advantage of maintaining and repairing immediately in case of track loss or settlement. Directly fastened asphalt track (ATD track) between Berlin and Hanover in Germany is reported that its maintenance has been unnecessary for 20 years after construction. The track is also noted for its excellence of noise reduction. Directly fastened asphalt track transfers train load directly to asphalt roadbed through sleepers or panels. According to the thickness of asphalt concrete layer, therefore, the stress acting on upper roadbed and the strain of lower asphalt roadbed are expected to have a big effect on its design life. In this respect, this paper focused on the effect of the asphalt and reinforced roadbed layer thickness on reinforced roadbed and the evaluation of its service life using currently available wider sleepers for directly fastened asphalt track.

Tensile and fracture behaviors of double-forged and aged Ti-6Al-4V alloys, with and without solution heat treatment and/or rapid cooling, were examined in the present study. Depending on the forging temperature and heat treatment condition, the microstructures of Ti-6Al-4V alloys varied greatly, including equiaxed α+transformed β. elongated α+equiaxed α, α' or acicular α in the prior β grain, and significantly affected the tensile and fracture properties at 25 and 316℃. Tensile and fracture failure modes of Ti-6Al-4V alloys with different microstructures were discussed based on the detailed fractographic examinations.
