        Analyzing Learners’ Visual Behavior Patterns Related to Information Processing and Cognitive States in Problem-Solving Learning

        This study explores the possibility of evidence-based educational prescriptions by analyzing learners’ information processing and cognitive states in problem-solving learning. Learners' scanpath patterns were regarded as information processing processes, and groups were differentiated according to the similarity of learners’ scanpaths. I collected and analyzed multimodal data including visual behaviors, logs, and stimulated recall responses from 60 university students and found differences in cognitive states between groups. Moreover, the predictive model confirmed that pupil dilation size and selective attention, which are indicators of cognitive states, statistically significantly predicted problem-solving outcomes. This study’s results confirm that visual behavior can be a useful indicator for detecting real-time changes in information processing and cognitive states during learners' problem-solving processes. This finding is significant in that it provides pedagogical implications for designing individualized instruction customized to each learner from the perspective of multimodal learning analytics.

        The influence of artificial intelligence (AI) technology on education has been substantial, with generative AI, notably ChatGPT based on large language models (LLMs), standing out as a noteworthy development. ChatGPT’s proficiency in comprehending natural language semantics and syntax, generating coherent text, and engaging in context-specific dialogues introduces transformative possibilities for education. Its adeptness in intricate interactions with learners suggests that analyzing these interactions can serve as a catalyst for examining individual learning experiences, thereby fostering the evolution of learning analytics. In this context, this research aims to explore the changes in the educational landscape brought about by the adoption of generative AI from a learning analytics perspective and propose directions for its adaptive evolution. To achieve this, we investigated the interaction mechanisms between humans and ChatGPT, seeking to understand the unique characteristics of their engagements. Through this exploration, we identified explanatory possibilities for phenomena that traditional learning analytics could not elucidate and proposed directions for the adaptive evolution of learning analytics, encompassing descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive aspects. This paper is anticipated to contribute to the comprehension of new educational paradigms induced by generative AI, offering insights for more effective, efficient, and engaging instructional design in educational settings where generative AI is integrated.

        소매점의 가격할인전략에 따른 소비자의 혜택지각 연구

        This study examines the effect of EDLP and HILO on consumers' perception of benefits among price discount strategies implemented by retail stores. By verifying the moderating role of the retailer's motivation inferred by consumers, the effect of the price discount strategy perceived by consumers was verified. Accordingly, this study applied a 2×2×2 experimental design between groups to verify the benefits perceived by consumers for their discount strategy by using the retailer's motivation(retailer orientation/consumer orientation) as an independent variable inferred by consumers. As a result of the experiment, both the main effect of the price discount strategy type and the moderating effect of the retailer's motivation that consumers infer about future price uncertainty and price discount strategy were statistically significant in both the perceived degree of savings and the perceived value of the discount transaction. appear. In addition, if the retailer's motivation inferring the price discount strategy is retailer-oriented rather than consumer-oriented, the psychological value gained from perceiving it as a loss is relatively greater than the psychological value obtained from the area of gain, so the discount strategy is not recommended. It was found that the degree of perceived benefits gained from this was relatively greater. This suggests that in order to continue the EDLP policy of retail stores, a price policy that considers the benefits perceived by consumers is necessary.

        Histomorphometric Evaluation of Onlay Freeze-Dried Block Bone and Deproteinized Bovine Bone with Collagen in Rat

        The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of human freeze-dried bone block (FDBB) and deproteinized bovine bone with collagen (DBBC) on bone formation when applied as an onlay graft in rat calvariums. Thirty male Sprague-Dawley rats received collagen sponge (control), FDBB, or DBBC onlay grafts trimmed into 8-mm disks measuring 4-mm height. Each graft was secured onto the calvarium surface using horizontal mattress sutures. Rats in each group were killed at 2 (n=5) or 8 (n=5) weeks postoperatively for histologic and histomorphometric analysis. The total augmented area (mm2), new bone area (mm2), and bone density (%) were measured. The FDBB and DBBC groups showed significantly more new bone formation and bone density than the control group at 2 and 8 weeks. The increased new bone area was significantly greater in the FDBB group than in the DBBC group (p<0.05). The total augmented area was significantly higher in the FDBB and DBBC groups at 2 and 8 weeks than in the control group (p<0.05), and at 8 weeks, the area was significantly decreased in the DBBC group compared to that in the FDBB group and the area at 2 weeks (p<0.05). Within the limitations of the present study, we concluded that onlay FDBB and DBBC grafts caused new bone formation through an osteoconductive mechanism. In addition, compared to FDBB, DBBC had less capacity to form new bone and maintain the space.

        디지털 교육 생태계의 품질평가 모형개발 및 평가구인 타당화

        This study developed a quality evaluation model for digital education ecosystem and to derived evaluation constructs. To this end, the literature on the components of digital education ecosystem quality, quality evaluation models, and evaluation constructs were reviewed. From the analysis of previous studies, a three-dimensional model for digital education ecosystem quality evaluation was developed. Evaluation constructs were derived using focus group interview. For content validity verification and importance calculation, AHP and validation surveys were conducted among 15 experts with a doctorate degree in educational technology and experience in digital education. The digital education ecosystem quality evaluation model that was ultimately obtained consisted of a three-dimensional model considering functional structure (contents-platform-service), logical steps (input-process-output), and unit of analysis (personal-network). The model developed in this study consisted of 54 content evaluation constructs, 21 platform evaluation constructs, and 25 service evaluation constructs. It has theoretical significance in that it provides a basis for multi-faceted evaluation of the elements that constitute digital education ecosystem quality from a systemic point of view. In addition, the results of this study have practical value, in that they can be used as practical guidelines in the design and quality evaluation of digital education ecosystems in various contexts. 본 연구는 디지털 교육 생태계에 대한 품질평가 모형을 개발하고, 평가 구인을 도출하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 디지털 교육 생태계 품질의 구성요소와 품질평가 모형 및 평가 구인에 관한 문헌들을 고찰하고, 선행연구 분석 결과를 토대로 디지털 교육 생태계 품질평가를 위한 3차원 입체적 모형을 개발하였다. 개발된 모형에 의거하여 FGI(Focus Group Interview)를 통해 평가구인을 도출하였고, 내용타당도 검증과 중요도 산출을 위해 디지털 교육관련 경험이 있는 교육공학 박사 학위 소지 전문가 15인을 대상으로 AHP 및 타당화 조사를 실시하였다. 타당화 조사 결과를 통해 최종적으로 도출된 디지털 교육 생태계 품질평가 모형은 기능적 구조(콘텐츠-플랫폼-서비스), 논리적 단계(Input-Process-Output), 분석의 단위(개인-네트워크)를 고려한 3차원 입체적 모형으로 구성되었고, 콘텐츠 평가 구인 54개, 플랫폼 평가 구인 21개, 서비스 평가 구인 25개로 구성되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 개발한 디지털 교육 생태계 품질평가 모형은 체제적 관점에서 디지털 교육 생태계 품질을 구성하는 요소들을 다각적으로 평가할 수 있는 근거를 제시하였다는 점에서 이론적 의의가 있다. 아울러 본 연구 결과는 다양한 맥락의 디지털 교육 생태계의 설계 및 품질평가 시 실무적 지침으로 활용될 수 있다는 점에서 실용적 가치를 갖는다.

        Effects of adjunctive daily phototherapy on chronic periodontitis: a randomized single-blind controlled trial

        Purpose: The purpose of this randomized single-blind controlled trial was to elucidate theclinical and antimicrobial effects of daily phototherapy (PT) as an adjunct to scaling androot planing (SRP) in patients with chronic periodontitis. Methods: The study was conducted from December 2013 to May 2014 at Ewha WomansUniversity Mokdong Hospital, Seoul, Korea. Forty-one patients with mild to moderatechronic periodontitis were randomly divided into two therapeutic groups in a 1:1 ratio:SRP+PT and SRP (control) groups. All participants underwent full-mouth SRP. PT was performedthrice a day for a month by using electric toothbrushes with embedded light-emittingdiodes. Plaque index, gingival index, probing pocket depth (PPD), clinical attachmentlevel (CAL), and bleeding on probing were assessed before (baseline) and four weeks after(follow-up) the treatment. Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Porphyromonas gingivalis,Tannerella forsythia, Treponema denticola, Prevotella intermedia, Fusobacteriumnucleatum, Parvimonas micra, Campylobacter rectus, Eikenella corrodens, Streptococcusmutans, and Streptococcus sobrinus levels were detected by a real-time polymerase chainreaction at the same points in time. Results: The clinical parameters improved in both the groups. At the follow-up assessment,PPD was significantly decreased in the SRP+PT group (P=0.00). Further, PPD and CALshowed significantly greater changes in the SRP+PT group than in the SRP group (PPD,P=0.03; CAL, P=0.04). P. gingivalis and T. forsythia levels decreased in this group, but nosignificant intergroup differences were noted. Conclusions: Adjunctive PT seems to have clinical benefits, but evidence of its antimicrobialeffects is not sufficient. Long-term studies are necessary to develop the most effective PTprotocol and compare the effectiveness of PT with and without exogenous photosensitizers.

        Anterior maxillary defect reconstruction with a staged bilateral rotated palatal graft

        Purpose: In the anterior maxilla, hard and soft tissue augmentations are sometimes requiredto meet esthetic and functional demands. In such cases, primary soft tissue closureafter bone grafting procedures is indispensable for a successful outcome. This report describesa simple method for soft tissue coverage of a guided bone regeneration (GBR) siteusing the double-rotated palatal subepithelial connective tissue graft (RPSCTG) techniquefor a maxillary anterior defect. Methods: We present a 60-year-old man with a defect in the anterior maxilla requiringhard and soft tissue augmentations. The bone graft materials were filled above the alveolardefect and a titanium-reinforced nonresorbable membrane was placed to cover the graftmaterials. We used the RPSCTG technique to achieve primary soft tissue closure over thegraft materials and the barrier membrane. Additional soft tissue augmentation using acontralateral RPSCTG and membrane removal were simultaneously performed 7 weeks afterthe stage 1 surgery to establish more abundant soft tissue architecture. Results: Flap necrosis occurred after the stage 1 surgery. Signs of infection or suppurationwere not observed in the donor or recipient sites after the stage 2 surgery. These proceduresenhanced the alveolar ridge volume, increased the amount of keratinized tissue, andimproved the esthetic profile for restorative treatment. Conclusions: The use of RPSCTG could assist the soft tissue closure of the GBR sites becauseit provides sufficient soft tissue thickness, an ample vascular supply, protection ofanatomical structures, and patient comfort. The treatment outcome was acceptable, despitemembrane exposure, and the RPSCTG allowed for vitalization and harmonization withthe recipient tissue.
