The purpose of this study is to investigate how the acquisition of English articles through grammar awareness-raising affects high school students' English ability. The subjects were 60 high school students, who were divided into two groups, and again into two levels. Article instruction using grammar awareness-raising techniques were given for 5 weeks. The major findings from this research are as follows: 1) The experimental group achieved significantly higher scores in their post test than the control group; 2) The lower-level students showed significantly better results than the ones in the control group; 3) In the qualitative analysis of article use, the experimental group used articles more correctly than the control group; 4) the experimental group, particularly in lower level, significantly improved after learning article usage in context-sensitive discourse with authentic materials. 유근피(楡根皮)가 전신적(全身的) 및 국소적(局所的) 아나필락시스에 미치는 효과(效果)

Ulmi radicis cortex is a herb medicine which has been used for the treatment of such allergic disease as urticaria, allergic rhinitis and athma. To assess the contribution of an aqueous extract of Ulmi radicis cortex(URC) in systemic anaphylaxis, we used compound 48/80 as a fatal anaphylaxis inducer in rats. URC inhibited anaphylactic shock 100% with a dose of 1.0 mg/g body weight (BW) 1 hr before injection of compound 48/80. URC significantly inhibited serum histamine levels induced by compound 48/80. URC (1.0 mg/g BW) also inhibited to 79.1% passive cutaneous anaphylaxis activated by anti-dinitrophenyl (DNP) IgE. URC dose-dependently inhibited the histamine release from the rat peritoneal mast cells (RPMC) by compound 48/80. Moreover, URC had a significant inhibitory effect on anti-DNP IgE-induced histamine release or tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$ production from RPMC. The level of cAMP in RPMC, when URC was added, significantly increased compared with that of normal control. These results indicate that URC may possess strong antianaphylactic effect.

Paljintanggagmbang has been used for cure of tumor as a traditional medicine without any experimental evidence to support the rational basis for its clinical use. This study was carried out to evaluate. the possible therapeutic or antitumoral effects of Paljintanggagmbang extract against tumor, and to carry out some mechanisms responsible for its effect. Experimental studis were performed for measurement of Humoral and Cellular Immune Response and Phagocytosis in Mice treated with mitomytion C(MMC) and Paljintanggagmbang alone and combination. The results obtained in this study were as follows 1. The adminstration of Paljintanggagmbang extract decresed size of tumors cell which MCA induced. 2. The adminstration of Paljintanggagmbang extract decresed growth of the tumors which S 180 transplant. 3. The adminstration of Paljintanggagmbang extract decresed reproduction of A549, Hep3b, 3LL cell and S 180 in vivo. 4. The adminstration of Paljintanggagmbang extract incresed activity of the NK cell. These results also suggested that effect of Paljintanggagmbang might be chiefly due to nonspecific enhancement of Humoral and Cellular Immune Response and Phagocytosis in Mice treated with MMC and Paljintanggagmbang alone and combination.

Coicis Semen is one of the oriental medicine that has been used for the treatment of the diseases such as pulmonary abscess, periappendicular abscess and wart since ancient times. However, the mechanism of the action of the drug is not well studied. This study was done to investigate the effects of Coicis Semen on the host defence mechanism. Effects of Coicis Semen on the immune responses were analysed by measuring the contact hypersensitivity, hemagglutinin, hemolysin and rosette formation, cytotoxicity, and reactive oxygen intermidiates production. As the results, water extract of Coicis Semen administration enhanced the antibodies (hemagglutinin and hemolysin) formation and the appearance of rosette forming cells of the spleen. Also Coicis Semen increased the allogeneic immune response in the mouse, showed cytotoxic activity against human leukemia cell line(K562) and decreased the contact hypersensitivity against dinitroflurobenzene. Also administration of Coicis Senlen slightly increased NK cell activity and enhanced the production of such reactive oxygen intermediates as superoxide and hydrogen peroxide from the macrophages in vivo and in vitro. The above results demonstrate that Coicis Semen has enhancing effects on cellular and humoral immune responses against disease.
