UV-B supplementation to mitigate intumescence injury of tomato seedlings

Intumescence occurs on the leaves and stems of tomato ( Solanum lycopersicum Mill.) seedlings grown under ultraviolet (UV) defi cient light environments, such as in a plant factory with artifi cial lighting (PFAL). Supplemental UV-B allevi ates intumescence incidence and modulates plants mophology and photomorphogenic responses. UV-B supplementation is required to suppress intumescence injury and determine the morphological and growth responses for each tomato cultivar cultivated in PFAL. ‘Doterang Dia’ and ‘B-blocking’, which were cultivars used as scion and rootstock, were grown in a PFAL with white light emitting diodes (LEDs) at a light intensity of 180 μmol m −2 s −1 for 16 h d −1 , an air temperature of 25/20 o C and a relative humidity of 70/90% (photo/dark periods) for 21 days. UV-B light was supplemented to each cultivar at 0 (Control), 0.05, 0.10, or 0.15 W m −2 for 3 h per day. The intumescence incidence rate was measured by the percentage of intumescent leafl ets for all leafl ets. The intumescence incidence of ‘B-blocking’ decreased signifi cantly under UV-B radiation. The incidence rate was lower than 1% under supplemental UV-B radiation with an intensity of 0.1 W m −2 and 0.15 W m −2 . The stem length, leaf area, and dry weights of shoots and roots were greater at UV-B intensities of 0.05 and 0.1 W m −2 than those in control and decreased at 0.15 W m −2 to the same level as the control. In comparison to ‘B-blocking’, intumescence incidence rates for ‘Doterang Dia’ showed low values, but it also showed a decreasing tendency with supplemental UV-B light similar to that of ‘B-blocking’. The stem lengths of ‘Doterang Dia’ were greater at a UV-B intensity of 0.05 W m −2 than those in control and decreased with higher UV-B radiation. The result suggests that supplementing of the small range of UV-B radiation can reduce the intumescence incidence while modulating growth promotion in tomato seedlings. The diff erent cultivar-specifi c responses to UV-B light between scion and rootstock cultivars could be due to the genetic diff erences among their major breeding resources developed from other areas with diff erent levels of UV-B radiation.

In this study, to investigate an optimal configuration method for the modeling system, we performed an optimization experiment by controlling the types of compilers and libraries, and the number of CPU cores because it was important to provide reliable model data very quickly for the national air quality forecast. We were made up the optimization experiment of twelve according to compilers (PGI and Intel), MPIs (mvapich-2.0, mvapich-2.2, and mpich-3.2) and NetCDF (NetCDF-3.6.3 and NetCDF-4.1.3) and performed wall clock time measurement for the WRF and CMAQ models based on the built computing resources. In the result of the experiment according to the compiler and library type, the performance of the WRF (30 min 30 s) and CMAQ (47 min 22 s) was best when the combination of Intel complier, mavapich-2.0, and NetCDF-3.6.3 was applied. Additionally, in a result of optimization by the number of CPU cores, the WRF model was best performed with 140 cores (five calculation servers), and the CMAQ model with 120 cores ( five calculation servers). While the WRF model demonstrated obvious differences depending on the number of CPU cores rather than the types of compilers and libraries, CMAQ model demonstrated the biggest differences on the combination of compilers and libraries.
알렉티닙과 삼칠충초정을 병용하여 호전된 진행성 비소세포성 폐암환자 1례

Objective: The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effectiveness of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with Samchilchoongcho-Jung (HAD-B1) in conjunction with Alectinib. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) mutated (2+) non-small cell lung cancer adenocarcinoma stage IV, suffering from edema of lower extremities, dyspnea, pleural effusion, general weakness, insomnia. The patient being treated with Alectinib was treated with Samchilchoongcho-Jung (HAD-B1) for disease control and symptom management. The clinical outcomes were measured by National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Event (NCI-CTCAE), Numeral rating scale (NRS) and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG). Results: After treatment, dyspnea and edema of lower extremities was relieved from NRS 7 to 5, and 6 to 1 respectively. And ECOG score of the patient was improved from grade 3 to 2. During and after treatment, we didn't find any severe toxicities on laboratory findings. Conclusion: This case study suggests that Samchilchoongcho-Jung (HAD-B1) may improve symptom relief and life quality of NSCLC patient in conjunction with Alectinib.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to report effects and potential of Integrative Cancer Treatment (ICT) on metastatic pancreatic cancer patient. Methods: A 79-year-old pancreatic cancer patient diagnosed with metastasis on liver visited the Daejeon Korean medicine hospital of Daejeon university East West Cancer Center (EWCC) on May 2021. The patient has been received chemotherapy (gemcitabine plus abraxane) and concurrently treated with ICT since May 2021. The clinical outcomes were measured by computed tomography, laboratory findings including tumor markers (CEA, CA19-9) and numeric rating scales (NRS). Laboratory analysis and National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (NCI-CTCAE), version 5.0 were used to evaluate the safety of ICT. Results: After treatment, constipation was relieved from NRS 5-6 to 2, both leg numbness was improved from NRS 9 to 2. Tumor size was generally decreased accompanying by reducing the levels of tumor markers. There were no severe adverse events induced by ICT based on NCI CTCAE version 5.0. Conclusion: This case study suggests that ICT in combination with chemotherapy may help in the treatment of patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer.
