This study was carried out to investigate the histological changes of sperm cells in testis, obtained from 100 of 3-year-old male rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) collected and analysed from March in 1992 to February in 1993. Especially, the ultrastructural changes of spermatogonia, primary and secondary spermatocytes, spermatids, and spermatozoa were examined to describe the reproductive cycles of this species. The results obtained in this study were as follows: The ultrastructures of the gonadotrophs largely parallel the cyclical changes in the testes. Each nest of cells belongs to one spermatogenetic stage, although nests at different stages can be found within the one lobule. At first keterochromatin is dispersed and then is condensed. In mature gamete, the nucleus is dense and homogeneous. The nuclear membrane appeared at the beginning of differentiation. In spermatogonia, Sertoli cells are located at the periphery of their cytoplasm. In the primary spermatocytes, the small mitochondria are abundant over the outer cytoplasm. During cell differentiation, the cytoplasm decreases and the nucleus increases. In spermatids, the protein masses moved towards the posterior part of the nucleus. In late spermatids, the two large mitochondria are located over the cytoplasm. In spermatozoa, two spheroidal mitochondria (about 145nm long) are situated in parallel between the nucleus and the axoneme. Spermatozoa mitochondria are assembled into an organized sheath surrounding the outer dense fibres and axoneme of the flagellar midpiece. The two centrioles are quite separate and the central pair and sheath complex of the flagellum is inserted into the base of the distal centriole.
Elastase 매개성 폐조직 손상에 대한 선폐정천탕(宣肺定喘湯)의 보호효과

Objectives : This study aimed to evaluate the protective effects of Seonpyejeongcheon-tang (SJT) on elastase-induced lung injury. Materials and Methods : The extract of SJT was treated to A549 cells and an elastase-induced lung injury mouse model. Then, various parameters such as cell-based cytoprotective activity and histopathological findings were analyzed. Results : SJT showed a protective effect on elastase-induced cytotoxicity in A549 cells. This effect was correlated with analysis for caspase 3 levels, collagen and elastin contents, protein level of cyclin B 1, Cdk1, and Erk1/2, and gene expression of TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-$1{\beta}$ in A549 cells. SJT treatment also revealed a protective effect on elastase-induced lung injury in mouse model. This effect was evidenced via histopathological findings, including immunofluoresence stains against elastin, collagen, and caspase 3, and protein levels of cyclin B1, Cdc2, and Erk1/2 in lung tissue. Conclusion : These data suggest that SJT has pharmaceutical properties on lung injury. This study thus provides scientific evidence for the efficacy of SJT for clinical application to patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
반순환여과장치에서 무지개송어의 적절한 사육밀도와 수질환경조건

This experiment was carried out for the determination of the optimal breeding density of rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss) and environmental conditions in semi-closed recirculation system. Since under the conditions of various research programmes, comparable trout origins rank differently, it must be supposed that genotype-environment interaction can occur under different stress situation (e. g. different density/PVC rearing unit). Thus, control of test environment of utmost importance both for performance testing and for breeding decisions. The recirculation system consists of 35 single PVC-cylinder with a water volume of 80 litre, respectively. In this experiment water renewal was lOm^3/day and density 75∼400 fries or fingerlings in each cylinder. The concentration of ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH were measured weekly during the experiment . The final fish: water ratio was 1: 18.6(or 150kg live body weight per 2.8m^3 water), Water temperature(9±1˚C), the values of pH(7.3∼7.8), the concentration of ammonia(0.1∼1.Oppm), nitrate(15∼20ppm), total nitrogen(8.7∼9.8ppm), and phosphate(0.3∼2.Oppm) were within the safe range. The feed efficiency was better than any other domestic animal and was 1.46. The mortality was 5.6%, and the optimal stocking density was considered to be 200fish/cylinder It can be concluded that the breeding experiments implemented at the aquacultural test station, except for the beginning phase of each test, have not been affected by environmental factors.

N/A The effects of oral branched-chain amino acids (Aminoleban EN) were investigated in 44 patients (male: 33, famale: 11, Mean age: 50.6 +- 8.4 years old) with decompensated liver cirrhosis and hepatic encephalopathy or history thereof in a multicenter collabo-ative clinical study. The following results were obtained. 1) Significant improvements were observed in indicators of neuropsychiatric symptoms such as asterixis, ability to make caIculations, number connection test times, encephalopathic grade and performance status among patients. 2) Plasma levels of branched-chain amino acids elevated significantly in the second week of treatment, and those of aromatic amino acids were in the decreasing trend after treatment, Fischers ratio were significanthy improved. 3) Serum levels of albumin in the patients with hypoalbuminemia (less than 3.0 gm%) were significantly elevated. 4) Adverse reactions reported in 3 cases (6.8%) out of 44 cases were abdominal pain, vomiting and abdominal distension with massive ascites. These results suggested that the supplementation of the diet with oral branched-chain amino acids may be beneficial effects in the patients with hepatic encephalopathy through the improvement of encephalopathy and nutritional status.
