        The development of 21 century high technology and intelligence communication changed a human life radically. Especially, it made possible people to communicate regardless of time and place. As the crime becomes more violent, concealed, and specialized, this development of science, being introduced to the investigation department which has a lot difficulty in dealing with a criminal investigation and seizing real evidence. Among these, there are eavesdropping a telephone or person -to person conversation. However, this eavesdropping has a danger of interrupting the people’s freedom of communication and their privacy. Our country, also, is practicing the Protection of Communications Secrets Act about eavesdropping. However, this law of Protection of Communications Secrets Act has some problems, and the actual application of this law and the related law is very rare. In conclusion, I will recommend that we have to regulate the scope and the admissibility of the eavesdropping by reforming “The Protection of Communications Secrets Act,” instead of making a new law. In reforming the law, the foreign countries are good examples. Also, we will make a new law in order to prepare new collection evidence by researching the academic and the official together.

        Ohmic cooking of instant rice cake soup: energy efficiency and textural qualities

        The potential of ohmic heating was investigatedto cook instant rice cakes according to electric fieldstrengths (9, 12, 15, 18 V/cm) and cooking times (60, 80,100, 120 s). Customized ohmic heating system wasequipped with ohmic cell, electrodes, thermocouple, proportional–integral–differential controller and data acquisitionsystem. Heating rate significantly increased whenelectric field strengths increased. Heating rate was 12.1 C/min at 9 V/cm, and was increased to 38.8 C/min at 18 V/cm. The energy efficiency was evaluated in terms of systemperformance coefficient (SPC) energy efficiency. Thebest SPC energy efficiency was 0.65 at an electrical fieldstrength of 18 V/cm. An electric field strength of 15 V/cmand an 80 s cooking time resulted in the most preferablehardness (7.73 N). Ohmic heating would be applicable tocook instant rice cakes, resulting in good energy efficiencyand textural qualities.

        Phosphine residues and physicochemical stability of Hwangtae after fumigation

        This study detected phosphine residues and the qualitative effect of phosphine fumigation on Hwangtae (yellowish-dried Alaska pollock). Four types of Hwangtae products commercially purchased were investigated to assess phosphine residue. Hwangtae was fumigated at both laboratory scale, at an aluminum phosphide rate of 33.6 g/m3, and large scale (1.68 g/m3) to evaluate phosphine residue and dissipation. Further, nutritional composition analyses between pre- and post-fumigated Hwangtae were conducted. The concentration of phosphine residues was lower than the detection limit (0.005 mg/kg) in all Hwangtae products. After fumigation in laboratory scale, phosphine residue was 2.47 mg/kg, and after fumigation in large scale, the residue was 3.25 mg/kg. After 3-d aeration in the open air, there was no residue detected from fumigated Hwangtae. Nutritional composition, including proximate, mineral, and amino acid compositions, did not differ (P > 0.05) between pre- and post-fumigated Hwangtae. Overall, Hwangtae did not demonstrate a phosphine residue problem after the proper aeration process, and phosphine did not alter the nutritional composition, suggesting the use of phosphine as a fumigant to protect Hwangtae from insect pests.

        Immuno-enhancement effect of polysaccharide extracted from Stichopus japonicus on cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppression mice

        Polysaccharide (SJP) was extracted from Sea cucumber, Stichopus japonicas, and its immune-enhancing activities were evaluated in vivo immune-suppressed mice systems. Cyclophosphamide(CY)-treated mice were orally administrated with SJP according to different concentrations. The results showed that administration of SJP significantly increased spleen index without variation of the body weight, compared to only CY treatment group. The proliferation of splenic lymphocyte and NK activity was also stimulated by SJP. In addition, the oral administration of SJP up-regulated COX-2 and TLR-4 as well as cytokines such as IL-1b, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TNF-a and IFN-c, which are secreted from splenic lymphocytes in cyclophosphamide- treated mice. Moreover, our results showed that SJP stimulated macrophages via NF-jB and MAPK signaling pathways. These findings provided the potential use of SJP as an alternative means under immune-suppressed conditions, and furthermore can be utilized as a functional material for food and pharmaceutical industries.

        LPS-Induced NO Inhibition and Antioxidant Activities of Ethanol Extracts and their Solvent Partitioned Fractions from Four Brown Seaweeds

        The nitric oxide inhibitory (NOI) and antioxidant (ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging effects with reducing power) activities of the ethanol (EtOH) extracts and solvent partitioned fractions from Scytosiphon lomentaria, Chorda filum, Agarum cribrosum, and Desmarestia viridis were investigated, and the correlation between biological activity and total phenolic (TP) and phlorotannin (TPT) content was determined by PCA analysis. The yield of EtOH extracts from four brown seaweeds ranged from 2.6 to 6.6% with the highest yield from D. viridis, and the predominant compounds in their solvent partitioned fractions had medium and/or less polarity. The TP and TPT content of the EtOH extracts were in the ranges of 25.0-44.1 mg GAE/g sample and 0.2-4.6 mg PG/g sample, respectively, which were mostly included in the organic solvent partitioned fractions. Strong NOI activity was observed in the EtOH extracts and their solvent partitioned fractions from D. viridis and C. filum. In addition, the EtOH extract and its solvent partitioned fractions of D. viridis exhibited little cytotoxicity to Raw 264.7 cells. The most potent ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging capacity was shown in the EtOH extracts and their solvent partitioned fractions from S. lomentaria and C. filum, and both also exhibited strong reducing ability. In the PCA analysis the content of TPT had a good correlation with DPPH (r = 0.62), ABTS (r = 0.69) and reducing power (r = 0.65), however, an unfair correlation was observed between the contents of TP and TPT and NOI, suggesting that the phlorotannins might be responsible for the DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities.

        Immune-modulation effect of Halocynthia aurantium tunic lipid on RAW264.7 cells

        The current study evaluated the immune-regulatory potential of lipid extract from Halocynthia aurantium tunic on macrophage cells. The results showed that H. aurantium lipid is composed of primarily SFA (68.32%), followed by MUFA and PUFA (17.61% and 14.07%, respectively). Halocynthia aurantium lipid dose-dependently modulated the NO and PGE2 production in RAW264.7 cells without any LPS stimulation. The lipid effectively up-regulated the cytokine expression, including IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α in RAW264.7 cells. The COX-2 expression as a key biomarker for inflammation was also significantly increased. Conversely, H. aurantium lipid down-regulated the expression of inflammatory cytokines in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Halocynthia aurantium lipid modulated the phosphorylation of NF-κB p-65, p38, ERK, and JNK, indicating that this lipid activated through NF-κB and MAPK pathways. These results provide insight into the immune-regulatory activities of H. aurantium tunic lipid and suggest that H. aurantium tunic may a potential lipid source for immune-regulatory molecules.

        Improvement of viscous substance production during Cheonggukjang fermentation added with glycine

        When Bacillus subtilis NB-NUC1 associatedwith Cheonggukjang fermentation was aerobically grownin a synthetic medium containing 1 to 2% glycine (w/v),cell growth was inhibited in a dose-dependent manner. Subsequently, different concentrations of glycine (0, 1, and2%) were used in Cheonggukjang fermentation for 96 h at40 C. Supplementation of 1% glycine increased extracellularc-glutamyl transpeptidase (c-GTPase), responsiblefor the production of viscous substance. Based on correlationstudies, we conclude that the production of viscoussubstance is correlated with viscous extension (r = 0.867),extracellular proteins contents (r = 0.821), and c-GTPaseactivity (r = 0.807). The molecular weight of the viscoussubstance obtained during Cheonggukjang fermentation byB. subtilis NB-NUC1 was also affected by glycine supplementation. Our results demonstrate that glycine supplementationbefore solid-state fermentation may increasethe mass production of mucilage in food industry.

        Co-immunomodulatory Activities of Anionic Macromolecules Extracted from Codium fragile with Red Ginseng Extract on Peritoneal Macrophage of Immune-Suppressed Mice

        In this study we investigated the immune effects of oral administration of anionic macromolecules extracted from Codium fragile (CFAM) and red ginseng extract mixture on the peritoneal macrophage cells in immune-suppressed mice. Cyclophosphamide (CY) induces the immune-suppressed condition. CY-treated mice were orally fed with different concentrations of CFAM supplemented with red ginseng extract and the peritoneal macrophages collected. CY treatment significantly decreased the immune activities of peritoneal macrophages, compared to the normal mice. The administration of CFAM mixed with red ginseng extract significantly boosted the viability of macrophage cells and nitric oxide production of peritoneal macrophages. Further, the oral administration of CFAM mixed with red ginseng extract up-regulated the expression of iNOS, COX-2, and TLR-4 as well as cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ more than the red ginseng-treated group. This study showed that CFAM enhanced the immune activity of red ginseng extract in the peritoneal macrophage cells of immune-suppressed mice. Furthermore, CFAM might be used as a co-stimulant of red ginseng extract through the regulation of macrophage cells for the enhancement of human health and immunity.
