Malignant Retroperitoneal Paraganglioma in a Siberian Tiger
신상경,박병민,염소영,김태왕,나기정,안병우 한국임상수의학회 2011 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.28 No.5
A 14 year old female Siberian tiger presented for postmortem examination. A large mass attached to sublumbar area was found to be circumscribing aorta with metastases to mesenteric lymph nodes, uterus, kidney, adrenal gland, lung and thymus. The tumor cells were arranged in clusters or nests separated by well-developed fibrovascular stroma. The individual cells were plump and polygonal with granular eosinophilic cytoplasms and had distinct cell borders. The tumor cells were positive for synaptophysin, chromogranin A and neuron-specific enolase, and negative for cytokeratins, S100 and glial fibrillary acidic protein. The primary tumor was diagnosed as a malignant retroperitoneal paraganglioma.
Pathologic Features of a Systemic Dirofilariasis in a Dog
이태진,고두민,염소영,신상경,장동우,안병우 충북대학교 동물의학연구소 2011 Journal of Biomedical and Translational Research Vol.12 No.1
Canine heartworm disease typically is manifested by the presence of heartworms in the pulmonary artery and, to a lesser degree, the right ventricle. Systemic arterial dirofilariasis is an unusual manifestation of heartworm disease of dogs that results from aberrant migration of Dirofilaria immitis into the peripheral arterial circulation. A 3-year-old Jindo dog was referred to Veterinary Medical Center because of hindlimb lameness, paresthesia of hindlimbs and interdigital ischemic necrosis. Angiography and ultrasonography diagnosed as heartworm infestation. In necropsy, entangled heartworms were present throughout the body including lungs, kidney, small intestinal lumens and arteries in addition to the right ventricle and pulmonary artery. Histologically, lung showed adult heart worms in vessels, organized thrombotic vessels, and interstitial pneumonia featured by typeⅡ pneumocyte hyperplasia, thickened alveolar wall and compressed alveolar spaces. Chronic parenchymal lesions such as focal or diffuse necrosis, fibrosis and dystrophic calcification were remarkable in liver and kidney. The present case showed a typical canine systemic heartworm diasease caused by aberrant migration of Dirofilaria immitis.
Myriocin induces apoptotic lung cancer cell death via activation of DR4 pathway

It has been known that myriocin inhibits melanomagrowth. However, the effects and action mechanismsof myriocin on lung cancer cell growth have notbeen reported. In this study, we examined whether myriocinisolated from Mycelia sterilia inhibits cell growth oflung cancer cells (A549 and NCI-H460) as well as possiblesignaling pathways involved in cell growth inhibition. Different concentrations of myriocin inhibited the growthof lung cancer cells through the induction of apoptotic celldeath. Consistent with cancer cell growth inhibition, myriocininduced the expression of death receptors (DRs) aswell as p-JNK and p-p38 in both cell lines. Moreover, thecombination of myriocin with DR4 ligand TRAIL, andother well known anti-tumor drugs (docetaxel and cisplatin)synergistically inhibited cancer cell growth, andinduced DR4 expression. These results showed that myriocininhibits lung cancer cells growth through apoptosisvia the activation of DR4 pathways, and enhanced anticancereffects with well known drugs. Thus, our study indicates that myriocin could be effective for lung cancercells as an anti-cancer drug and/or a conjunction agent withwell known anti-cancers.
