The sensing and electrical characteristics of WO₃-based n-type semiconductor gas sensors are investigated. In normal air condition, TiO₂(4 wt.%)-doped WO₃-based sensor fabricated without any binder shows the grain boundary (GB) potential barrier height of 0.26 V. Sensors fabricated with alumina, PVA and silica sol binders show 0.17, 0.22 and 0.26 V of GB potential barrier height, respective In the ambience of 120 ppm NO_x concentration, the GB potential barrier height of the sensor fabricated without binder is increased to 0.59. The sensors were fabricated with alumina, PVA, silica sol binders show 0.43. 0.66 and 0.52 V of potential barrier, respectively. Thus the variation of the potential barrier at GB is largest in the sensor fabricated with the PVA binder. This is found to be the main reason why the sensor fabricated with the PVA binder shows the best sensitivity. It is also found that the decrease of sensitivity at a temperature higher than the optimum operation temperature is due to the temperature dependence of the sensor resistance in normal air condition rather than the desorption of the adsorbed NO_x, gas particles. In the ambience of 250 ppm CO concentration, the GB potential barrier heights of the sensors fabricated without binder and with PA binder are about 0.2 V showing negligible change compared to the case of normal air ambience. This fact indicates that these sensors are good candidates for the selective detection of NO_x, gas in the mixture of CO and NO_x gases.

Circulating fluidized bed boiler which can use a variety of fuel type turns out to be a very effective combustion system. The 200㎿e class thermal power plant CFB boiler in Korea was installed in 1998, 1999 respectively, and it becomes the largest boiler to fire anthracite with butuminous Coal in Korea. Co-Combustion with refuse derived fuel(RDF) also has been considered as a promising fuel in a circulating fludized bed boiler. In this study, heat and mass balance is calculated for the CFB boiler using korean anthracite, bituminous and refuse derived fuel. By calculating 0-dimensional heat and mass balance, effects of Co-Combustion are discussed about required fuel flow rate, total air flow rate sorbent rate and flue gas temperature.

Background/Aims: The aim of this study was to examine the distribution of range of liver enzymes according to age and BMI in each gender using large-scale data. Methods: Data were gathered from 65,715 subjects who underwent a routine health check-up and did not have HBsAg and anti-HCV. Boxplot analysis was used to examine the distribution of range of liver enzymes according to age and BMI in each gender. Multivariate linear regression analysis was performed for assessment of the association of liver enzymes with age and BMI, and to determine whether the range of liver enzymes was affected by risk factors for metabolic syndrome in each gender. Results: ALT, AST, and GGT levels showed significant association with BMI in both male and female after adjusting for age. The range of ALT, AST, and GGT levels varied more widely according to the increase in BMI in males than in females, and this finding was more prominent in younger subjects than in older subjects. All risk factors for metabolic syndrome were shown to affect liver enzyme levels in male subjects. However, although most risk factors for metabolic syndrome affected liver enzyme levels, there might be weak or no effect of fasting hyperglycemia on AST, and low serum HDL-cholesterol level on GGT in female subjects. Conclusions: Age, BMI, and other risk factors for metabolic syndrome had a significant effect on the distribution of range of liver enzymes in each gender, even in this study conducted from Korean health checkup subjects.
