The litter size has been the primary interest of economic traits in pig reproduction. It has been recently shown that insulin-like growth factor-Ⅰ(IGF-Ⅰ) plays roles in establishing pregnancy and in supporting fetal growth and development. But, the effect of serum IGF-Ⅰ on litter size has not been studied. Therefore, this study was conducted to relate serum IGF-Ⅰ concentration with porcine litter size and to investigate the possible connection with estrogen receptor(ER) as a candidate gene for the litter size. Sera during day 45 to 105 of pregnancy were collected from two groups showing high and low litter size and serum IGF-Ⅰ concentration was measured by radioimmunoassay (RIA). IGF-Ⅰ levels in both groups decreased gradually as pregnancy stage proceeded but were not significantly different. Secondly, DNA was extracted from blood and PCR-RFLP was utilized to analyze ER genotypes of pigs in each group, which produced three polymorphic patterns. Based on the ER genotypes analyzed, low litter size group showed higher IGF-Ⅰ concentration than high litter size group. Taken together, the results indicate that the serum IGF system was correlated with steroid system but not with the litter size in pigs. Thus, this study implies that porcine litter size could be determined locally at the ovary level.

Recently, most of the motor companies have made an effort to reduce the risk of serious and fatal injury to occupants. So they need techniques to evaluate the overall stiffness and safety of a vehicle at the early stage of a car design program.<br/> The roof crush resistance test of a 4WD vehicle is especially getting more attention. The object of this paper is to understand the effect of BIW(Body In White), door, windshield glass and etc on roof crush resistance. Quasi-static analysis using the PAM-CRASH are carried out for the roof crush resistance studies. Finally the analysis results are compared with the test results.<br/>

Recently, a number of the heavy duty gas turbines have been installed in several power plants in Korea. The gas turbines are newer models, which are categorized as a 1300 class engine, adopting the upgraded materials and the protective technologies such as coating and cooling. Therefore corresponding technology development for repair and rejuvenation of hot gas path components are inevitable. The higher operational temperature accelerates material degradation as well as thermally induced stress in the components. To prevent catastrophic failure, the periodic repair using adequate knowledge and processes are essential. In order to cure thermal stress cracking occurred in fixed vanes, Activated Diffusion Healing is now a versatile solution following the hydrogen or fluoride ion cleaning. For early stage of the creep damaged materials for rotating blades, Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) or rejuvenation heat treatment is applicable to encourage metallurgical recovery. These are the state of the art technologies that are immediately available in Korea.

The analysis of side door strength of SUV(Sports Utility Vehicle) was performed. Door impact bar of side door plays an important role in protecting intrusion from side impact accident. In general, stiff impact bar shows good performance to side door intrusion test, but when it is stiff too much, it may cause local stress concentration on the bracket connecting the impact bar and the inner door panel. It is important to optimize impact bar size and bracket thickness and shape so as not to cause failure. In this study, we could get the appropriate design variables of the impact bar and the related parts through the CAE analysis and test. The result of this study will be useful to save the desinging time of door.<br/>
