Physical modeling test of new harbor at Saemankeum located in western part of South Korea was conducted. During the implementation of this test, stem waves are observed to develop within a wedge next to the wall. These results and recent climate change due to global warming have raised some concern that Mach reflection neglected at the conventional design practice could get worse to devastate some offshore structure. Hence, design wave conditions for 39 harbors are reexamined and it is shown that most offshore structure have been built over a range of depth where Stokes wave thory can be applied. Based on this consideration, the generation characteristics of stem waves are numerically studied with harbors are reexamined with cubic Schrodinger equation. It is shown that with increasing nonlinearity, the amplitude of stem waves is getting decreased whereas the width of stem waves is getting broadened. Considering that vertical wave breaker be more frequently deployed in the near future, there is a need to pay more attention to the wedge angle.
2차원 수리동역학적 모형을 이용한 새만금 수역 흐름 특성 연구

The Saemangeum Reclamation Project, which could be created 28,300 ha of the enclosed area and 11,800 ha of the freshwater reservoir, was started in 1991 and the final closure for a sea dike of 33 km was constructed in April 2006. As a result, the inherent fluid flow properties surrounding artificial sea dike will be changed and it will be influenced in a factor of the risk for the adjacent water ecosystem. The two-dimensional hydrodynamic model used to assess the change of flow properties is Delft2D-Flow model. This model was calibrated and validated against the observed data and was run using various scenarios.
유한한 대역폭을 지니는 비선형 불규칙 파동계의 주기분포에 대하여

연안역에서의 파고분포, 처오름 높이, 연안표사 부유 특성 등에 상당한 영향을 미치는 설계 주기는 그 중요성에 비해 다소 소홀히 다루어진 것으로 보이며 이러한 경향은 Longuet-Higgines가 1963년에 제시한 비선형 불규칙 파랑모형의 난해성으로 설명될 수 있다. 이로 인해 최근까지 불규칙 파랑계에서의 파고와 그 주기의 추계학적 특성은 주로 경험적 해석 방법에 의존하여 진행되어왔다. 1989년 Tung 등이 차이 간섭에 의해 보다 규모가 큰 파랑으로 전이되는 에너지가 크리 크지 않다는 사실에 기초하여 제시한 불규칙 파랑모형은 상대적으로 간편하며 이 후 불규칙파랑 해석은 비약적인 발전을 경험하게 된다. 본 연구에서는 전술한 파랑모형에 기초하여 불규칙한 파군에서의 파고와 그 주기의 결합확률밀도함수를 해석적으로 유도하고 Wallops spectrum에 기초하여 수치모의 하였다. 그 결과 최빈주기를 중심으로 한 대칭성과 분포형태는 Goda(1978) 등의 관측결과와 일치하였다. 이러한 대칭성은 파고가 비교적 큰 경우 파고와 주기는 상호 독립적 무작위 사상임을 의미하는 것으로 최근 대폭 상향 조정된 설계주기에 오류가 내포 할 수 있음을 시사한다. 이와 더불어 비선형성이 고려되는 경우 파고와 주기의 표본공간 상에서 의미 있는 값을 지니는 영역이 축소되며 확률분포함수의 질량중심이 선형의 경우보다 파고가 큰 쪽으로 - 주기의 경우 작은 영역으로 - 이동하였다. 또한 조건부 주기 확률밀도함수가 최빈 주기 인근에 집중되는 정도는 심화되는 것을 확인하였다. Even though wave period is a crucial design element to have humongous influence on a wave force on the coastal structure, wave climate near coastal region, sediment suspension, it has been maltreated. These tendencies can be explained by the complicated form of nonlinear random waves by Longuet-Higgines (1963). Hence theoretical treatment of statistical properties like a period relevant to nonlinear random wave field of moderate bandwidth heavily relies on semi empirical approach. Based on the observation that wave energy transfer to lower harmonic component due to nonlinear difference interaction is not significant, Tung et al. (1989) proposed simplified version of Longuet-Higgins' wave model, which triggered a huge progress in our understanding of nonlinear random waves of finite bandwidth. In this study, we analytically derived joint distribution of wave height and its period and conditional probability density function of wave period using aforementioned wave model. Based on these results, we numerically simulate nonlinear random waves using Wallops spectrum, and it turns out that the symmetry and distribution pattern with respect to modal period agrees well with measured data by Goda (1978). It is also shown that as the nonlinearity is getting profound, the region over sample space where joint distribution of wave height and its period have meaningful value shrinks, and a center of probability mass shifts toward relatively large values of wave height and smaller values of period. In addition, we note that conditional probability density function of wave period more clusters around the modal value with an intensified nonlinearity.

The artificial facilities constructed in estuary affect the change of natural flow properties in the vicinity of this construction. The Saemangeum sea dike constructed to store a freshwater connects Gunsan to Buan in Korea. Therefore, tide properties near the Saemangeum Reclamation Area will be changed. However, several researchers have performed the quantitative analysis for the change of tide properties. In this study, the harmonic analysis model, Delft3D-Tide, was used to assess the effect of the tide circumstances in ocean seas surrounding Saemangeum Area.
