Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Nigrescens’ is a perennial gardening plant, the bioactivities of which have rarely been studied. In the present study, the antioxidant activity and cytotoxic effect on intestinal cells of O. planiscapus were investigated. Methanol extracts were prepared from the aerial parts and roots of O. planiscapus and scavenging activities were investigated using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2΄-azobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic-acid) radicals, Fenton reaction-induced lipid peroxidation, and Fe<sup>2+</sup> ion chelation assays, and cytotoxicity was evaluated against HCT 116 human colon cancer and INT-407 human normal intestinal cells. Total polyphenol and flavonoid levels were significantly higher in the root extracts of O. planiscapus than in the aerial parts. Scavenging activities against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2΄ -azobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic-acid) radicals of the root extracts (IC<sub>50</sub> values of 0.32 and 0.16 mg/mL, respectively) were also more potent than those of the aerial part extracts (IC<sub>50</sub> values of 1.19 and 0.41 mg/mL, respectively). However, nitrite scavenging activities of both extracts were not significantly different. Both extracts inhibited the Fenton reaction-induced lipid peroxidation through reducing thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and by chelating the Fe<sup>2+</sup> ion. The extracts from the roots and aerial parts of O. planiscapus also exhibited concentration-dependent cytotoxicity against HCT 116 human colon cancer (IC<sub>50</sub> of 51.6 and 98.4 μg/mL, respectively) and INT human normal intestinal (IC<sub>50</sub> of 75.2 and 107.4 μg/mL, respectively) cells. Both extracts showed significantly higher potency to HCT 116 colon cancer cells. These results indicate that the extracts from roots and aerial parts of O. planiscapus contain biologically active compounds and can be used as a dietary source with health benefits.
어린이 과학생물학교 프로그램이 초등학생의 스트레스, 정서지능과 사회성에 미치는 효과

본 프로그램은 2007개정 초등학교 과학과 교육과정을 기본으로 원예 활동에 과학교육을 접목하여 아동의 스트레스를 감소시키고, 정서지능을 높이며 사회성을 향상시키고자 실시하였다. 그 결과 스트레스가 감소하였으며, 정서지능 증가에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 사회성에는 유의미한 차이를 보이지 않았지만, 교사의 관찰 일지를 통하여 관찰력과 탐구력 및 사회성 향상에 긍정적인 효과가 있는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 학부모 설문지 결과를 통해 어린이과학생물학교 프로그램이 과학교육과 원예활동을 접목하여 창의적이고 탐구적인 효과를 얻고자 하는 새로운 시도로 평가 되었으며, 이에 대한 학부모들의 기대가 높은 것을 알 수 있었고, 이 수업과정을 통해 자녀들이 지적인 습득과 함께 심리 정서적 안정감을 얻기 원하는 것으로 나타났다. 앞으로 원예와 여러 분야의 교과부분을 접목하여 통합적인 프로그램을 제시하고, 보다 심도 있는 원예활동을 실시하여 아동들의 성장 발전에 효과를 거둘 수 있도록 연구해야 할 것이다. As our society has rapidly developed, elementary school students are now exposed to various stresses, which have great impact on their emotion and sociality. In response to such phenomena, a study was conducted in order to reduce children’s stresses, increase emotional intelligence, and promote sociality as well as enhance scientific thinking and inquiring through developing a program which grafts horticultural activities onto science education. In total of 72 participants, preliminary and post tests were conducted and 17 from stress group, 5 from sociality group, and 14 from emotional intelligence group responded to those tests thoroughly. Their data were collected and analyzed to figure any change, and additionally teachers inspected any change in children’s activities to record. Other investigation, such as expectation on this program, was done through survey on 52 parents out of 72 participating students. As a result, stress was reduced and emotional intelligence was enhanced. There was no substantial difference in sociality, record from teachers demonstrated that there was a positive effect on inquiring and investigating ability as well as sociality. Also survey on parents indicated that parents’ expectation was very high on this program that combines horticultural activities and science education for more effective and creative effects. There should be further study on grafting horticultural activities onto other fields of education to suggest more integrated programs that help effective development on children’s growth and development.

꿀풀 및 섬초롱꽃의 생육과 항산화활성에 미치는 질소시비의 영향

국내 자생식물인 꿀풀(Prunella vulgaris)과 섬초롱꽃(Campanula takesimana)을 이용하여 질소비료의 형태에 따라 생육반응, 항산화 물질 함량 및 항산화 활성을 조사하였다. 질소비료처리는 NO3-N 처리구와 NH4-N 처리구 및 이들의 혼용구로 구분하여 수경재배를 실시하였다. 꿀풀과 섬초롱꽃의 생육은 NO3-N과 NH4-N 혼합처리구에서 좋았다. 총 플라보노이드 함량은 꿀풀의 경우 NO3-N과 NH4-N 혼합처리구가 좋았다. 총 폴리페놀 함량과 DPPH 라디칼 소거능 및 NO 소거 활성 등의 항산화 활성은 NH4-N 처리구에서 높게 나타났다. NO3-N 처리구의 경우 총 플라보노이드 및 총 폴리페놀 함량이 낮고, 항산화 활성도 낮은 경향이었다. This research was conducted to identify the effect of nitrogen form on the growth and antioxidant activities of native plants. Prunella vulgaris and Campanula takesimana were cultivated with a ebb and flow hydroponic system and treated with 3 nitrogen forms of nutrient solution of NO3-N, NH4-N, and mixed NO3/NH4-N. The growth of Prunella vulgaris and Campanula takesimana showed the best results in nutrient solution of NO3/NH4-N. Suppling the NO3/NH4-N fertilizer increased the contents of the total flavonoids in Prunella vulgaris. Total polyphenol content and DPPH scavenging activity, and NO scavenging activity were higher in NH4-N treatment, while suppling NO3-N decreased the contents of total flavonoids and total polyphenol, and the antioxidant activities of DPPH scavenging activity and NO scavenging activity.
