The survival of muscle-derived cells injected into the urethra and bladder wall was described recently. In this study, we tested whether injections of periurethral muscle-derived stem cells (MDSC) and bovine collagen (BC) after denervation of the pudendal nerve could increase leak point pressure (LPP) and closing pressure (CP) in female rats over the long term. S-D rats were anesthetized with halothane and the pudendal nerves transected bilaterally via a dorsal incision in order to denervate the external urethral sphincter. In the collagen and MDSC groups (C & M), injection of collagen or MDSC was made into the proximal urethra after pudendal nerve transection. At 4 and 12 week, visually identified LPP and CP measurements were made using the vertical tilt/intravesical pressure clamp model of stress urinary incontinence. The rats were then sacrificed and urethra harvested for histology. Both LPP and CP were significantly lower in the denervated (D) group at each time compared with the normal (N), C, and M groups, and both LPP and CP in the C and M groups were significantly higher than in the D group at both 4 and 12 weeks. The persistence of MDSC over the period of study was verified by histology. Thus pudendal nerve denervation led to a progressive decline in LPP and CP that was evident at 4 week and persisted to 12 week, and injection of MDSC into the denervated rats led to a long term increase in LPP and CP.
변이제와 안정제가 Candida dattila의 Killer 활성에 미치는 효과 및 Gel Filtration에 의한 Killer Toxin의 분리

Candida dattila K105 and K108 are killer yeasts isolated from Korea wine grapes. Treatment with cycloheximide of 0.1 to 10 ppm, ethidium bromide of 1 to 100 ppm, or acriflavine hydrochloride of 10 to 1,000 ppm killed the cells of Candida dattila K105 and K108, the larger cells with higher concentration of the mutagens, but the killing activity was not cured by their treatment. The killing activity of K105 and K108 were conserved for long time by treatment with inositol or glycerol of 3.0% at 5℃ and 20℃, while it was almost cured at 35℃. From the isolation through gel filtration, the toxin was deduced to be glyceroprotein.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the typological relationship between a worship space and a community space in the Koran churches. The study analyzed 94 Korean churches from 1971 to 1998 based on three architectural criteria such as access, plan and area ratio. The result of the study shows that the importance of a community space has been increased gradually as its area ratio has been increased about 90% during the last 28 years. Also It is found out that the linking typology of a worship space and a community space has been changed according to its periodical requirements and characteristics.

Wild type murine leukemia L5178Y and its radiation-sensitive mutants, M10 and LX830 cells were compared for their sensitivity to radiation, methyl methanesulfonate (MMS) and 4-nitroquinoline-l-oxide (4-NQO). Sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) pattern of the two extremely radiation-sensitive mutants compared with that of L5178Y showed that a 90-kDa protein was deficient. This deficiency probably indicates that M10 and LX830 may have a common defect in their ability to repair radiation-induced damage.
Streptomyces lividasn 의 Blasticidin S 에 대한 내성 Mechanism

A mechanism of resistance to blasticidin S in Streptomyces lividans 66 was investigated. Although the microorganism was highly resistant to the drug in vivo, the in vitro protein-synthesizing system was significantly sensitive. The possible resistance mechanism was discussed and suggested.
청소년소비자대회 개최 및 운영을 위한 국내외 관련대회 특성 및 시사점 분석

미국과 영국, 유럽 등의 선진국에서는 이미 오랜 전부터 청소년소비자들을 대상으로 콘테스트 방식의 참여적 소비자교육을 추진해왔다. 이러한 대회를 통하여 청소년들은 소비자권리와 책임, 소비자사기의 발견 및 방지, 소비자안전 및 건강 등의 분야에 대한 지적 이해를 높이고, 도전적이고 즐거운 심리적 체험을 하며, 팀웍 기술, 자아 존중감, 언어적 의사소통능력, 리더십능력 등의 기술적 능력을 발달시킨다. 또한 무엇보다 중요한 것은 이러한 대회가 전국규모로 열리게 될 경우, 소비자교육에 대한 사회적 관심을 제고하고 학교 소비자교육 활성화의 계기를 마련할 수 있게 된다. 따라서 본 연구는 우리나라의 청소년소비자교육의 활성화의 한 방안으로 청소년소비자대회 도입을 제안하며, 이를 위해 국내외 관련대회의 사례를 검토하여 향후 경진대회 실행방안을 제안하고자 하였다. 구체적으로는 첫째, 청소년소비자대회의 개념 및 필요성을 정리하고, 둘째, 국내의 관련대회 즉, 수학경시대회, 고교생 경제경시대회, 고교생 생활법 경시대회 등과 국외의 LifeSmart(미국), Young Consumer Competition(영국), European Young Consumer(유럽) 대회 등을 중심으로, 대회종목 및 세부내용, 참여대상 및 자격, 운영자 및 운영방식, 시상 및 지도교사에 대한 보상 등에 대해 살펴본다. 그리고 마지막으로 셋째, 이러한 검토를 통해 밝혀진 시사점을 중심으로 우리나라 청소년소비자대회의 실행방안을 제안 한다. Young Consumer Competition(YCC) is to encourage young people to become more aware as consumers, by getting them to work on consumer-linked themes in teams under adult guidance. The team members of competition ends up with a wealth of consumer knowledge, and enjoys seeing them use consumer information in their other classes and in their daily lives. Most of all, it has been an excellent way to learn consumer sciences and overall positive experience. This paper reviews the current status and characteristic of YCC in other countries, and gives some suggestions for building YCC in Korea: 1) to describe the concept and necessity of YCC in young consumer education, 2) to analyze the purpose, participants, role sharing, funding and communication system of YCC in other countries(LifeSmart of USA, Young Consumer Competition of UK, European Young Consumer of EU), 3) to suggest effective methods for establishing and maintaining on YCC in Korea.
Isolation of Muscle Derived Stem Cells from Rat and its Smooth Muscle Differentiation#

We investigated whether stem cells (MDSC) from primary cultures of rat skeletal muscle can differentiate into the smooth muscle lineage in response to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and coculture with bladder smooth muscle cells. The MDSC were isolated from gastrocnemius muscle biopsies of normal 3−6 week- old Sprague-Dawley rats and purified by the preplate technique. Cells that took approximately 6 days to adhere to the collagen-coated flasks were termed late preplate (LP) cells, and were used in all the experiments. The early plate (EP) cells (pp1-pp4) contained some myogenic cells but were mostly fibroblasts (< 15% desmin+ cells) whereas the LP cells (pp5-pp6) were highly purified musclederived cells (pp6) (> 90% desmin+ cells). The musclederived stem cells (LP cells) were CD34+ or Sca-1+, CD45- and desmin+ by immunohistochemical staining. After two days of co-culture with bladder smooth muscle cells, about 25% of the muscle-derived stem cells were positive for alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA)+. RT-PCR for α-SMA was positive in the VEGF stimulated MDSC, but negative in the absence of VEGF. In conclusion, rat muscle-derived stem cells exhibited stem cell properties (CD34+ or Sca-1+), and were not of hematogeous (CD45-) but of myogenic origin (desmin+). RT-PCR of α-SMA was positive in the VEGF stimulated muscle-derived stem cells.
The Use of Recombinant DNA Techniques to Study Sterol Metabolism in Streptomyces sp.

The nucleotide sequence of the cholesterol oxidase gene (choA) of Streptomyces sp. was determined previously. We searched for the promoter region of the choA gene and found a strong promoter at about 1.3-kb upstream from choA gene. Thus we sequenced the fragment between the promoter and choA gene and found a new open reading frame (ORF), unexpectedly. Furthermore, the results of transcript analysis suggested that the c h A gene was transcribed polycistronically under the control of the promoter. In this review, we also discuss homologies in the new ORF and its activity of cytochrome P-450.
