The purpose of this study was to investigate and quantitatively describe the acoustic characteristics of current Korean monophthongs. Recordings were made of 33 men and 27 women producing the vowels /i, e, ${\epsilon}$, a, ${\partial}$, o, u, i/ in a carrier phrase "This character is ___." A listening test was conducted in which 19 participants judged each vowel. F1, F2, and F3 were measured from the vowels judged as intended vowels by more than 17 people from the listening test. Analysis of formant data shows some interesting results including the undeniable confirmation of the 7-vowel system in modern Korean. It turns out that quite different sounding Korean vowels and English vowels happen to have very similar formant measurements. Also the difference between "citation-form reading" vs. "natural utterance reading" is discussed.

본 연구에서는 남녀 화자 8명의 목소리를 녹음한 후 전신과 얼굴을 촬영하고 100명의 사람들에게 목소리와 사진을 짝짓는 인지실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 8명 중 4명 이상의 목소리를 주인공과 올바로 짝을 지었으며, 전신을 보았을 때가 얼굴만 보았을 때보다 정확도가 높았다. 또 좋은 소리는 좋은 인상보다 더 많은 사람들이 동감하는 것을 알 수 있었다. To investigate the relationship between voice and the image created by the voice, a perception experiment was undertaken in which voices of 8 males and 8 females reading a fairy tale were recorded and presented to 100 subjects along with the speakers' pictures. Two kinds of pictures were taken: one, a whole-body picture, and the other, a face-only close-up picture. Subjects were asked to match each voice with its owner. The results showed that out of 8, more than 4 were matched correctly. And the correct rate was higher when the voices were matched against the whole-body pictures than against the face-only pictures. In addition, it was noted that far more people picked a single voice as the most 'favorite' one than they picked one picture as the most 'favorite' image.

Aurea Helianthus is a plant originating from China and contains a large amount of various pharmacological components and high molecular weight mucilage. This study evaluated Aurea Helianthus leaf extract's antioxidant activity and hair improvement effect. The IC50 value of DPPH radical activity of the ethanol 70% extract of Aurea Helianthus leaf was 613.08 μg/mL, and the IC50 value of ABTS radical activity was 191.73 μg/mL. When 1-5% ethanol extract from Aurea Helianthus leaf was used to treat damaged hair, changes in tensile strength and hair thickness were observed in a concentration-dependent manner. In addition, SEM measurement was performed using an optical microscope, and the experimental group treated with the Aurea Helianthus leaf extract showed the effect of protecting the damaged cuticles in a concentration-dependent manner compared to the control group. In conclusion, Aurea Helianthus leaf extract is effective for damaged hair and is judged to be a suitable raw material for hair cosmetics.

Lichens are complex microorganisms in which fungi (mycobionts) and algae (photobionts) live in symbiosis by forming limbs. Most of the fungi that make up lichens, such as the Burleighi, are asymptomatic fungi, accounting for almost 99% of all known lichen species. In this study, polyphenol content, flavoid content, and antioxidant activity were investigated to inquire the possibility of Xanthoparmelia meximcana as a cosmetic material. Total polyphenol contents were calculated to be 500 μg/mL and four antioxidant assays whereas DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radical scavenging were performed resulting in the range of 50-500 μg/mL (IC50). All four fractions showed no cytotoxicity up to the concentration of 100 μg/mL by MTT assay. The Xanthoparmelia meximcana would be a valuable asset for many applications, including cosmetic products.
