Objectives: This study investigated the effect of Korean medicine on an elderly patient with posterior circulation cerebral infarction, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and early neurological deterioration (END). Methods: The patient, who already had CKD, was treated with Korean medicine, comprising herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxa, and cupping combined with Western medicine (antiplatelet, diabetes) and physical therapy. A manual muscle test (MMT) and a modified Barthel index (MBI) were used to observe the treatment effects, and blood tests were performed to check estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), creatinine and blood urea nitrogen (BUN), which represent renal function. Results: After the treatment, MMT, MBI, and renal function scores had increased. Conclusions: This study suggests that Korean medicine can effectively treat posterior circulation cerebral infarction with END in CKD, but further studies should be conducted.

식용 및 약용으로 이용되는 산초 (Zanthoxylum schinifolium) 잎에 함유된 항암활성 성분을 분리하기 위하여 산초잎을 유기용매로 추출하여, 각 추출물의 암세포에 대한 독성 및 세포자살 유도 활성을 조사하였다. Methanol, methylene chloride, ethyl acetate, n-butanol로 추출한 각 추출물의 세포 독성을 인체 급성백혈병 Jurkat T 세포주, estrogen receptor-positive 유방암 세포주 MDA 361과 estrogen receptor-negative 세포주 MDA 438를 대상으로 조사한 결과, 이들 암세포주에 대한 세포독성이 methylene chloride 추출물 (SL-14)에서 주로 확인되었다. Methylene chloride 추출물 (SL-14)의 Jurkat T세포주에 대한 세포독성의 기전은 mitochondria로부터cytochrome c 방출, 이에 뒤이은 caspase-9 및 caspase-3의 활성화, PARP 분해, jnternucleosomal DNAfragmentation등의 일련의 생화학적 과정을 통해 유도되며 또한 Bcl-xL의 ectopic overexpression에 의해서는 negative regulation되는 세포자살임을 확인하였다. 또한 SL-14를 GC-MS 분석하여, 9,19-cyclolanost-24-en-3-ol (15.1%), 2-a-methyl-17, b-hop-21-ene (15.1%), 15-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H benzazepin (11.95%), phytol (10.38%), lupeol (9.92%), 12-methylbenzofuran (8.23%) 등을 포함한 22가지의 구성성분과 그 조성비를 확인하였다. 이상의 연구결과들은 식용 산초잎에 함유된 항암 활성으로서의 세포자살유도 활성의 규명과 이해에 유익하게 활용될 것으로 기대된다. To understand antitumor activity of Zanthoxylum schinfolium, which has been used as an aromatic and medicinal plant in Korea, the cytotoxic effect of various organic solvent extracts of its leaves on human tumor cells were investigated. Among these extracts such as methanol extract (SL-13), methylene chloride extract (SL-14), ethyl acetate extract (SL-15), n-butanol extract (SL-16), and residual fraction (SL-17), SL-14 appeared to contain the most cytotoxic activity against leukemia and breast cancer cells tested. The methylene chloride extra.1 (SL-14) possessed an apoptogenic activity causing apoptotic DNA fragmentation of human acute leukemia Jurkat T cells via mitochondrial cytochrome c release into cytoplasm, subsequent activation of caspase-9 and caspase-3, and cleavage of PARP, which could be negatively regulated by antiapoptotic protein Bcl-xL. The GC-MS analysis of SL-14 revealed that the twenty-two ingredients of SL-14 were 9,19-cyclolanost-24-en-3-ol (15.1%), 2-a-methyl-17, b-hop-21-ene (15.1%), 15-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H benzazepin (11.95%), phytol (10.38%), lupeol (9.92%), 12-methylbenzofuran (8.23%), hexadecanoic acid (5.96%), cis,cis,cis-9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid-methyl-ester (5.49%), 9,12,15-octadecatrienoic acid-methylester (3.59%), 15-methyl-4-(1-methylethylidene)-2-(4-nitrophenyl) (3.36%), hexadecanoic acid methyl ester (1.93%), vitamine E (1.88%), beta-amyrin (0.96%), and auraptene (0.89%). These results demonstrate that the cytotoxicity of the methylene chloride extract of the leaves of Z. schinifolium toward Jurkat T cells is mainly attributable to apoptosis mediated by mitochondria-dependent caspase cascade regulated by Bcl-xL, and provide an insight into the mechanism underlying antitumor activity of the edible plant Z. schinifolium.

지반네일 보강방법은 이론적 뒷받침과 함께 경험적인 작업을 기초로 발전되어 왔다. 경험적인 연구 작업에서 대부분의 자료가 실질적으로 사용되는 하중 조건에서 계측 되어 왔다. 그러나, 지반네일 보강토체에 대한 사용 하중 내에서의 거동 뿐 아니라 구조물의 파괴 거동도 설계방법의 확립과 계산에 중요한 대상이 된다. 본 연구에서는 소일네일 보강토체의 파괴 거동을 이해하기 위하여 비교적 즐 규모의 실험을 실시하여 토체의 변위, 네일의 축변형률,네일의 축하중, 토체내 부의 토압 등에 관한 자료를 얻었으며 이러한 자료들을 분석하였다. The soil nailing method has been developed on the basis of experimental works as well as theoretical backgrounds. As for the experimental research works, most of the data have been measured during the application of load in service. However, not only the soil-nailed structure behavior in service but also the failure behavior of the structure is major concern to evaluate and even establish a design method of soil-nailed walls. In this study, a relatively large-scale experiment was carried out to figure out the failure behavior of soil-nailed wall. A number of data such as displacement of soil-nailed walls, soil pressure in soil-nailed walls, atrial strain and axial force of nail etc.'have been acquired and analysis.

The living cells, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, are sandwiched between ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis membranes. The uitrafiltration membrane separates the cells from the feed volume, while providing free passage for all nutrients to the cell mass below. Therein, the bioreaction starts to occur, leading to product ethanol. The reverse osmosis membrane, while immobilizing cells, also helps in separating the nutrients from the product stream preferentially. Therefore, the enriched ethanol solution could be obtained without much contamination from glucose and nutrients. Above the filtered cell mass a coarse filter paper was placed to provide the cells extra room for growth and to eliminate the partial closing of pores of the ultrafiltration membrane which is in contact with the cells, In order to minimize the back diffusion of ethanol from the yeast cell layer to the feed solution, the cellulose acetate ultrafiltration membrane was replaced into the more hydrophobic polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane. In these cases, performance data for glucose fermentation to ethanol by yeast cells were obtained. As a result, the maximum ethanol concentration was 70.3 g/ℓ after 400 hours of operation continuously and at the operating pressure of 2758 kPag(=400 psig) on the substrate solution for the forced convection flow of substrate to the cell layer.

초본계 바이오매스는 목본계 바이오매스에 비해 구조가 견고하지 않아 화학적 전환이 용이하다. 하지만 당질계 바이오매스에 비해 리그닌이 많아 전처리가 필수적으로 요구된다. 오르가노솔브는 리그닌과 같은 효소당화에 저해가 되는 물질을 분별하기 쉬우며 특히 에탄올과 같은 낮은 분자량의 용매는 증류를 통해 재사용이 용이하다는 장점이 있다. 한편 침출식 전처리 공정은 기존의 회분식 공정에서 문제점으로 언급되었던 분별된 성분들의 재결합 현상을 방지할 수 있고 고-액 분리가 용이하다는 장점이 있으며, 향후 스케일업에도 유리하다. 아직까지는 바이오알코올 생산 공정 중 전처리 과정에서 소모되는 에너지 비용이 크기 때문에 본 연구의 전처리에서는 촉매 없이 에탄올만을 이용해 부가공정의 발생을 줄이려고 했다. 침출식 전처리는 $150{\sim}190^{\circ}C$에서 30~99.5 wt% 에탄올을 이용하여 20~60분 동안 수행되었다. 높은 반응온도와 긴 반응시간은 에너지 소모가 크기 때문에 물리적 전처리 방법과의 연계를 적용하여 에너지 저감의 가능성을 알아보았다. Herbaceous biomass is easier at chemical conversion than woody biomass. However, pretreatment must be needed because it has substantially lignin. Organsolv is good at fractionation of enzymatic hydrolysis inhibitors such as lignin and it is reusable by distillation when it has low molecular weight. Flow-through process can prevent recondensation of fractionated components and easily separate liquid from the biomass. In this study, the pretreatment was performed for decreasing additional process by using ethanol without catalyst because this process has a lot of operation expense at bio-alcohol production process. Flow-through pretreatment was performed at $150{\sim}190^{\circ}C$ with 30~99.5 wt% ethanol during 20~60 minutes. Also the phsyco-chemical pretreatment was performed for decreasing reaction time and temperature.
