포함관계와 역포함관계:한국어의 “-는”, “-면”, “-만”과 “-(어)야”의 분석

Kim, Joung-Ran(2010), “The Set Inclusion Relation and the Reverse Set Inclusion Relation:the Analysis of Korean -nun, -myen, -man and -(e)ya”, Language & Information Society 13, Kim, Joung-Ran(2010) claimed that topic and conditional sentences in Korean, which bear the signature mark -nun and -myen respectively, can be effectively represented by the set inclusion relation. This article now investigates the reverse set inclusion relation marked by -man and -(e)ya in Korean. As Barwise and Cooper (1981) argued for English only`, it is argued that -man marks the reverse set inclusion relation in Korean. In addition, it is argued that ``-(e)ya`` also marks the reverse set inclusion relation. The complete overlapping relation is expected when both the inclusion relation marker and the reverse inclusion relation marker appear at the same time in a sentence, and those instances are presented.

The paper examines two different positions on the nature of metalinguistic negation. Horn (1985), the major proponent of the duality of negation position, argues that metalinguistic and descriptive negations arise from the pragmatic ambiguity of negation. C. Lee (2010) claims that Korean data support Horn’s position. However, Carston (1996) argues that the metalinguistic cases all involve metarepresentaional or echoic use of expressions, which is what gets us into metalinguistic interpretation. This paper shows that Korean data, including Lee’s examples, cannot be explained satisfactorily under the duality of negation position. Rather, Korean data are better explained by adopting the position of the duality of representation.

Several different -nun phrases are found in Korean, and one of them is Contrastive Topic(CT). Contrastive Predicate Topic(CPT) is one that is similar to Contrastive Topic. This paper tries to identify their commonalities and differences. The paper first argues that CPT is not attached to the predicate but actually to Focus Structure(FS), and shows the contrastive phrases, whether they appear as CT or as FS, share two things: high pitch accent on the morpheme -nun, and the scalar implicature. Then it is explained how the notion of scalar implicature handles the unique implication involved in CT and FS sentences. It is pointed out that the scalar implicature falls short of explaining some cases, and some amendment is suggested. Lastly it is argued that CT and FS contrastive phrases have different scopes.
부정초점과 단순초점으로 설명한 한국어 NPI 자료의 문제

Many researchers have argued that some kind of intervention constraint applies for the Korean NPI and the licensing negation at LF. Some even argued that this intervention constraint actually applies at S-structure. I find the intervention constraint does work at LF, but it alone cannot adequately explain some data. This paper shows that some data, not previously taken care of, can be explained away if we introduce the concepts of two different foci: negation target focus and simple focus, and hypothesize the location of NPI to be on Spec/NegP.
과인슐린혈증을 보인 Nesidioblastosis 1 예

Nesidioblastosis, a condition characterized by diffuse islet cell hyperplasia arising from the ductal epithelium, is often associated with hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia. This is the most common cause of persistent neonatal hypoglycemia and is extremely rare in adults. A 38-year-old man had suffered from intermittent hypolycemic symptoms for 5 years, and had been relieved by carbohydrate ingestion. Plasma immunoreactive insulin levels and I/G ratio were inappropriately high during prolonged fast. Abdominal CT scan, angiography, and frozen section provided no evidence of a tumor. Pathologic examination of the resected pancreas revealed irregularly sized islets and scattering of small endocrine cell clusters throughout the acinar tissue and ductuloinsular complex and distinct islet cell hypertrophy are present.
