김은국의 『순교자』와 안정효의 『하얀전쟁』에 나타난 문화의 충돌과 치유

As the two most influential contemporary wars in Korean history, the Korean War and the Vietnam War not only caused heavy results in the participating nations but also revealed the dramatic conflicts of different religions and cultures in the violent confrontation. Among many English-written narratives related with these two wars, Richard Kim`s The Martyred and Junghyo Ahn`s White Badge are the most well-known and popular novels for Korean readers, which respectively delineate the Korean War and the Vietnam War with the emphasis of tragical and heuristic aspects of ideological warfares. In general, the war fiction contains two contrasting aspects of the artistic and the moral features. While Richard Kim`s novel mainly focuses on the total realities of the war by encouraging the objective and existential viewpoints, Junghyo Ahn`s novel faithfully follows the moralistically scathing satire on the war maintaining the constant strong stance of antiwar spirit. However, both novels have a lot in common in that the protagonist`s consciousness has dramatically changed into the humane or the susceptible by valuing life and peace above all violent causes after their bitter experiences of the war. The contrastive conclusion between the minister Shin`s heroic apotheosis and the private first class Byun`s suicidal bathos only confirms how important the community listeners` careful acceptance of the war victims` post-traumatic stress disorder is in healing the deep pain. Only when community`s sharings occur like the Greco-Roman tragic narratives` condolence rituals for the war victims, the violence and conflict caused by the confrontations of different religions and cultures can be healed as the wholesome community level, not as the individuals` struggles.

세신약침(細辛藥鍼)의 천식억제 및 면역조절효과에 대한 실험적 연구

Objectives and methods: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of AHCR(ASARI HERBA CUM RADICE) herbal acupuncture at St36 on ovalbumin-induced asthma in mice. C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA(ovalbumin) for 12 weeks(once a week). Two experimental groups were treated with different concentrations(1%, 0.1%) of AHCR-HAS at Chok-samni (St36) for the later 8 weeks (3times/week). Results: 1. Lung weight of the mice group treated with AHCR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. 2. Total Leukocytes in BALF of the mice group treated wtih AHCR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 3. The number of Eosinophils in BALF of the mice group treated wtih AHCR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. 4. The number of Gr-1+ /CD11b+, CCR3+, CD4+, CD3e+/CD69+, IgE+/B220+ cells in the lungs of the mice group treated with AHCR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. 5. The number of CD8+ cells in the lungs of the mice group treated with AHCR-HA didn`t show significant difference compared with that of control group. 6. The concentration of IgE, IL-13, IL-4 in serum of the mice group treated with AHCR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. Conclusion: We conclude that AHCR-HA is effective on OVA-induced asthma in C57BL/6 mouse.

Illustrative Mechanism and Fantastic Organism in Postmodern American Science Fiction

Postmodern American science fiction authors often dramatize the human fear and hope for the newly emerging artificial life forms. For example, Helen as an advanced artificial intelligence Richard Power's Galatea 2.2 shows that the student's memorizing efforts for exams can be useless someday. In Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash machines are liable to be infected with viruses like human bodies. In He, She and It, Piercy's parallel of an artificial human (Yod) and a mythic personification (Golem) allegorically reveals the pandora-like unpredictable effect of advanced technology. More than the mechanical entities (the diffusion and linear models for Latour), these biologically artificial entities reveal the limitations of even the fantastically idealized technology simply because the human being as the creators or impersonators of these machines are not perfect. Compared to illustrative mechanism, biologically artificial entities (Latour's transition or whirlwind models) are inherently rebellious because of their closeness to the creators. The Butler's organic environmental interaction of the Earthseed convincingly demonstrates how the wrong use of science ruins the holy earth and also how human beings survive through the right use of effective science with the aid of anthroposophy.

$\textrm{V}_{2}\textrm{O}_{5}$계 전자 전도성 유리의 제조 및 전기적 특성

유리 형성제로 $B_{2}O_{3}$를 사용하고 CuO를 첨가한 vanadate계 3성분계 유리의 전기적 특성을 조사하였다. 각 조성별 결정화온도에서 열처리 시간을 다르게 하여 생성되는 결정상을 조사 하였으며, 결정화 특성에 따른 직류 전기 전도도의 변화를 분헉하였다. 생성 결정물은 XRD 분석결과 $V_{2}O_{5},\;{\alpha}-CuV_{2}O_{6}$로 판명 되었으며, 열처리 시간에 따라 $V_{2}O_{5}\;와\;{\beta}-CuV_{2}O_6$의 결정화도는 별다른 변화가 없었으나 ${\alpha}-CuV_{2}O_{6}$의 결정화도는 크게 변화하였고 ${\alpha}-CuV_{2}O_{6}$의 결정화도 증가에 따라 전기 전도도가 증가 하였다. 전기 전도도는 상온(303K)에서 유리 조성을 변화시켜 $10^{-2}~-10^{-4}{\Omega}^{-1}cm^{-1}$ 범위로 조절될수 있었다. $V_{2}O_{5}$ 함량이 증가할수록, 염기도($CuO/B_{2}O_{3}$)가 감소할수록 전기 전도도가 증가 하였다. 이 유리의 charge carrier는 전자인 n-type 반도체임이 seebeck coefficient 측정결과 판명되었으며, 전자 전도에 대한 활성화 에너지는 0.098-0.124eV로 계산되어졌다. 측정 온도인 $30~200^{\circ}C$에서 small polaron hopping conduction이 발생함이 관찰되었고, variable range hopping은 보이지 않았다. Vanadate glasses using $B_2O_3$ as a network former and with CuO additive were mainly investigated in relation to electrical properties. Crystalline phases formed by heat-treatment in each composition were examined and dc electrical conductivity changes of the glasses were analyzed. Crystalline phases were identified as $V_3O_5,\;a-CuV_2O_6\;and\;{\beta}-CuV_2O_6$ by XRD analysis. Crystallization degrees of $V_2O_5$ and ${\beta}-CuV_2O_6$ were little changed with heat-treatment time, but those of ${\alpha}u-CuV_2O_6$ were changed sharply with heat-treatment time. The more crystallization of ${\alpha}u-CuV_2O_6$ occurred, the higher electrical conductivity was observed. Electrical conductivities with $10^{-2}~10^{-4}/{\Omega}/cm$ at room temperature(303K) could be obtained by controlling the glass compositions. The electrical conductivities were increased with increasing of $V_20_5$ content and decreasing of alkality($CuO/B_2O_3$). In this study, electron was proved to be charge carrier by seebeck coefficient measurement. Accordingly, the glasses are believed to be n-type semiconductor. Calculated activation energies for the conduction were in the range 0.098-0.124 eV. Electrical conduction mechanism was small polaron hopping without showing variable range hopping in the temperature range $30~200^{\circ}C$.

우레아 및 항산화제를 이용한 면도를 위한 수염 강도 약화 연구

연구에서는 수염에 대한 면도력을 향상시킬 수 있는 화장료 제형 개발을 위하여 대면용 화장료에서 사용 가능한 우레아 및 여러 항산화제의 수염 강도 약화 효과를 연구하였다. 실제 모발 강도 약화 효과는 우레아 농도에 의존적인 성향을 보였으며, 모발 면적 증가율 역시 농도에 의존적인 것으로 나타나 우레아 농도에 따라 모발의 수화 정도가 달라지며 이것이 강도 약화에 영향을 주는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 항산화제는 종류에 따라 소량으로도 뛰어난 강도 감소 효과를 보이며, 이는 모발에 다량 존재하는 시스틴 결합을 환원시키기 때문으로 해석된다. 마지막으로 대면용으로서의 적합성 판단을 위해 우레아 및 항산화제의 in vitro 안전성 테스트를 진행하였다. 안전성 테스트 결과 우레아는 대면용으로 사용하기 적합한 정도로 나타났으며, 항산화제 중에서는 글루타치온이 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 위 결과들을 통해 피부 자극이 적고 모발 강도 약화 효과가 뛰어나 면도용 제품에 적용하기 적합한 원료는 우레아 및 글루타치온임을 알 수 있었다. In this study, facial hair weakening ability of urea and anti-oxidants for shaving was investigated. The hair weakening ability and cross-section increase of hair depends on concentration of urea. The results showed that urea affects swelling of hair and this is related to the hair weakening ability. Anti-oxidants showed outstanding weakening ability despite of their low concentrations by breaking disulfide bond in facial hair. To evaluate the suitability of urea and anti-oxidants for facial cosmetic products, in vitro safety tests were proceeded. The results showed that urea and glutathione were safe for face. As a result, urea and glutathione were safe and outstanding as hair weakening agent for cosmetic shaving products.

질병과 문학: 문학속의 역병의 4가지 공간

Regarding diseases or epidemics in narratives as constructed cultural by-products, this paper classified narratives of diseases into four categories of myth, realism, micro-history, and ecology. The first three types of texts roughly coincide with Michel Foucault’s three constructed spatialisations of the signified(disease) and the signifier(symptom) in Naissance de la Clinique. According to Foucault, the nineteenth-century bourgeois society victimized patients to validate its controlling role by stigmatizing disease and patients. But this mythical and unscientific space is soon replaced by the second space in which surgical anatomy played a significant role in lightening the specific cause of death from disease. Despite the intense caring of each individual patent, however, this second space was still full of preconceptions, hypotheses, and stigmatizations by the lack of coup d’oeil on the interaction between disease and society. The contaminated social and political body by ideologies of malady narratives was more fully illuminated in the Foucault’s third space. After investigating these Foucault’s three spaces of disease discourses, this paper set up the new fourth space called ecological spatialisation where modern technology becomes the direct and serious threat to environment and human beings with time. In order to reach a contextual understand of interaction between new diseases and mutational environments, we need more ecological texts of disease which includes technology, globalization, and affluenza.
