        지진파(地震波)를 이용(利用)한 남한(南韓)의 지각구조(地殼構造) 연구(硏究)

        By using local earthquake data, the Korean crust model and travel-time tables were determined. The upper crustal earthquakes (Hongsung event and Ssanggyesa event) were considered as auxiliary information, and the lower crustal earthquakes (Uljin event and Pohang event) played an important role in determining model parameters. The possible existence of Low Velocity Layer (LVL) in the upper mantle was suggested by discrepancy in the arrival times of Sariwon earthquake which occurred below Moho discontinuity. Computer program for the determination of the model parameters was developed in order to screened out the optimum parameters by comparing the travel times of observed data with theoretical ones. We found that the discontinuities of Conrad, Moho, and upper and lower boundaries of LVL have their depth of 15, 32, 55 and 75 Km, respectively. The velocities of P-and S-wave in the layers between those discontinities were found to be (1) 5.98, 3.40 Km/sec (2) 6.38, 3.79 Km/sec (3) 7.95, 4.58 Km/sec (4) unknown (5) 8.73, 5.05 Km/sec, respectively from the top layer. Travel-time tables were also computed for the inter-local earthquakes which have their direct wave paths above the LVL.

        1926~1943년(年)의 국지자료(局地資料)에 의한 한국 지진(地震)의 연구(硏究)

        본논문(本論文)에서 1926년 2월부터 1943년 5월까지 국내(國內)에서 Wiechert 지진계(地震計)로 관측(觀測)된 국지자료(局地資料)가 제시(提示) 연구되었다. 일본(日本) 기상청(氣象廳)(JMA) 현용(現用) S-P monogram(travel time table)을 기초(基礎)로 하고 주로 Tsuboi의 지진(地震) 규모(規模)(magnitude) 계산식(式)과 진도자료(震度資料)의 보조(補助) 이용(利用)으로 적절한 한계내(限界內)에서 가능한 한(限) 많은 지진요소(地震要素)(parameter)를 산출하였다. 또한 진앙분포(震央分布)와 관련한 지진(地震) 특성(特性)이 인접지질구조(隣接地質構造)와 연관(連關) 논의(論議)되었으며 몇몇의 통계결과(統計結果)가 일본(日本) 구주지역(九州地域)과 비교 분석됨으로서 한국의 지진(地震) 활동(活動)에 관한 합리적(合理的)인 해석(解析)이 내려졌다. 지진(地震) mechanisrn을 규명(規明)하기에는 충분(充分)하지 않지만, 단편적인 자료(資料)들을 superposition method 에 의하여 종합(綜合)한 결과(結果), 일본(日本) 남서부(南西部)(구주(九州)) 지역(地域)의 그것과 대체로 일치(一致)하는 동일서(東一西) 압축(壓縮)의 stress field가 작용(作用)하는 일반적 경향성(傾向性)을 발견(發見)할 수 있었다. The local earthquake data, observed by Wiechert seismograph in Korea during Feb. 1926-May 1943, was provided and investigated. Using S-P monogram of JMA, mainly Tsuboi's formula and additional intensity data, the earthquake parameters are obtained as much as possible within a reasonable discrepancy. The seismic characteristics as to the epicenter distribution was discussed under the viewpoint of its relation to the adjacent geologic structure. Some statistical results are analyzed comparing with Kyushu region which provide a reasonable interpretation on the seismicity of Korea. By superposing the available information of the individual events, the general trend of stress field was found to be east-west compression, which mostly agree with that of the southwestern Japan.

        재벌,금융개혁 -김대중정부 평가와 차기 정부의 과제

        Unfortunately, the Korean Presidency election of 2002 will be held under the difficulties of economic depression. Furthermore, all strong candidates seem to have very similar conservative economic policy line. In this situation, it is likely that the next Korean government would retreat the economic reform which Kim Dae-Jung government has pursued after the 1997 economic crisis, even though its performance is very unsatisfactory. Based upon an incremental approach, this paper presents some principles and programs for Chaebol reform and the financial reform which, I think, have to be realized during the next government. On the one hand, I try to foster corporate governance reform in a narrow sense of the Commercial Code and the Stock Exchange Act under the perspective that the shareholder activism introduced by the NGOs has to be internalized into market. On the other hand, I also propose some issues for strengthening the Fare Trade Act and the financial supervision-related laws in order to re-design the broad regulatory scheme to Chaebols. I emphasize the importance of the reforms against the Chaebols` cross-shareholdings and control power over the financial sector, without which corporate governance reform efforts in a narrow sense would be nullified. Of course, it is very suspicious that the next Korean government has the intent and capability to pursue even these basic tasks. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that this incremental approach can escape the trap of neo-liberalism and contribute to the progressive development of Korean society. In spite of all these reservations, I hope, an incremental approach that various stakeholders try to enlarge the scope of their new social rights by means of the accumulation of successful experiences of realizing their already-given rights is very effective strategy, even though nor unique.

        건강기능식품 소비자의 구매행동에 관한 실증적 연구

        건강기능식품은 인체에 유용한 기능성을 가진 원료를 사용하여 제조・가공한 식품으로 정의하고 있다. 연구의 목적은 건강기능식품 소비자의 구매행동에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하여 건강기능식품업체에 경영전략수립의 방향을 제시하는데 있다. 건강기능식품 구매자의 구매형태는 첫째, 정보획득의 원천은 이웃이나 친지(38.2%)를 통해 가장 많이 알고 있고, 둘째 구입 장소는 전문점(40.5%)과 방문판매(38.9%)가 절대로 많았다. 셋째 구입동기는 건강상의 이유(54.6%), 주변의 권유(31.0%)가 많았고 넷째 구입성향은 과거에 구입한 경험이 있는 사람(72.9%)이 절대적으로 많았다. 본 연구의 가설검증을 회귀분석한 결과 각 독립변수는 종속변수를 설명하는데 의미가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 (1) 경제적 가치 (2) 판매원 서비스 (3) 회사의 명성 (4) 용기디자인은 모두 건강기능식품 구매에 정(+)의 방향으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그 중 회사의 명성 베타(β)계수의 절대값이 제일 크고 가장 설명력이 높은 변수(요인)임을 알 수 있었다. 회사의 명성을 쌓기 위해서는 우수한 품질의 제품과 적극적인 홍보활동을 통해 회사이름을 알리는 것이 필요하다. This study was attempted to suggest a way to establish more reasonable management strategies to health functional food companies by investigating the consumers’ general understanding of health functional food and analyzing the influential factors(variables) for purchasing behavior of health functional food consumers. The modes of purchase for health functional food purchasers were analyzed through practical studies as follows: First, the sources to acquire information about health functional food were neighbors or family(38.2%), TV or radio advertisements(25.5%), call sales by salesperson(22.9%). Second, the places to purchase health functional food were mostly health functional food shop(40.5%) and call sales by salesperson(38.9%). Third, the motives to purchase health functional food were for reason of health(54.6%) and recommendation by those close to purchasers(31.0%). Fourth, the propensity to purchase health functional foods was mostly purchasing the same product(45.4%) or continuing to purchase the same product(26.5%). In this study, after regression analysis on hypothesis testing, it was found that each independent variable had significant explanatory power to dependent variables. As a result of testing hypothesis, it was found that economic value, salesperson’s service, company’s reputation and packing design had a positive(+) effect upon purchasing health functional food. Seen from that the absolute value of beta(β) coefficient of company’s reputation is largest, it is deemed that company’s reputation is the variable with highest explanatory power in this study.

        개방에 따르는 위험과 갈등의 조정 방안 -한,미 FTA 금융서비스 협상을 중심으로- / 논평 / 일반토론

        The opening of service industry requires domestic institutional changes. Even though the adoption of global standards by opening may strengthen domestic service industry, it has the risks of causing inefficiency and instability due to the conflicts among various institutions and the unsatisfactory enforcement mechanism. These kinds of internal risks in the Kor-US FTA negotiation must be equally taken into consideration as well as its direct shocks. The opening of financial service industry may be an outstanding example. Even though the opening of cross-border transactions and new financial products will take very gradual process through the positive list approach, it will have profound impacts on the domestic financial supervisory system, in particular accelerating its transformation into the negative supervisory system. Under the present condition of the Korean supervisory and judiciary system, however, the premature deregulation policy may cause another financial crisis. In order to control the risks of the Kor-US FTA, Korean government needs to enhance the strictness of enforcement mechanism and the breadth of social safety net.
