The immense popularity of The Beggar's Opera was a consequence of a fusion of political and social satire. It also burlesqued the dominant operatic form of the day, Italian opera. It originated the ballad opera, a genre abounding with songs set to familiar tunes. The Beggar's Opera satirizes the life of London's underworld. Gay's presentation of lower classes is a burlesque, but he uses the inversion of values to expose the corrupt values of high society and of the Government. The implication throughout is that the behavior of Walpole, Prime Minister, and other Whig leaders is not different from that of Peachum, who deals with stolen goods, except that the corruption they practice is on a much larger scale. The quarrels of Peachum and Lockit, the chief jailor, and their treachery to one another are a picture of what goes on in councils of state. Macheath and his gang of highway robbers, whom Gay ironically likens to a group of aristocrats and politicians, repeatedly express their conviction that high society is more corrupt than the underworld. The play is also the ironical attack on contemporary social manners. Gay presents the inverted mercantile world which is operated by the cash bond alone. In handling the theme of love and marriage, Gay again satirizes the moral vacuum at the heart of London's gentry. In conclusion the play shows that self-interest and greed are the main driving forces of urban society, from the high class to the underworld. The money is the main goal both aimed at. The popularity of the play goes on in our time inspiring adaptations and imitations, including Bertolt Brecht's Die Dreigroschenoper.

사고력 신장을 위한 웹 기반 수업방식의 학습자 만족도 분석

본 연구는 학습자의 창조적인 사고력 신장을 위한 하나의 시도로서, 교과교육에서 구성주의에 기초한 웹 기반 교수과정이 어떻게 접목될 수 있는지를 탐색하는 가운데, 학습자의 사고력이 신장될 수 있도록 돕는 웹 기반 수업방식에 대한 학습자의 만족도를 분석해 보고자 하였다. 그 결과, 학습자들은 전통적인 수업 방식에 비해 웹 활용 수업 방식에 대한 흥미도와 만족도가 매우 높아 교과에 대한 흥미를 진작시킬 수 있었으며 웹을 통한 학습자의 다양한 상호작용 및 협동학습을 통해 질 높은 교육의 결과를 기대할 수 있다는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 본 실험과 함께 실시한 웹 기반 수업방식에 대한 설문 조사에서 학습자의 만족도에는 놀이와 유용성만이 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 용이성은 만족도에 별 다른 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 유용성에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 요인은 용이성뿐이며, 용이성은 다시 효능과 지원, 그리고 태도에 의해 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다.

에드워드 본드의 『바보 이야기: 빵과 사랑의 장면들』에 나타난 더블 이미지 연구

Conscious of the problems of violence and destructiveness caused by the social institutions as one of the most serious issues facing modem society since early in his dramatic career, Edward Bond has been interested in the discord between the individual and society. Bond not only exposes and analyzes the cause of the violence in society to deliver a political message, but explores the consciousness and emotions of the individual, by using a protagonist's double images. A protagonist's double images are very critical dramatic symbols and metaphors which provide the protagonist's developing perception into physical, visual terms. Based on the biography of a poet, John Clare of 19th Century, The Fool: Scenes of Bread and Love shows an intensified form of the conflict between the individual and the society, in the failure of Clare, the poet to become a meaningful part of society. In this play, the structural wickedness of capitalism is exposed through the tension between the ruling class which imposes its self-interests and the poet. A very strong bond is shown between Clare, the man of creative imagination, and Darkie, the man of action. The death of Darkie provides a critical moment to Clare towards the world and self-knowledge. The unity of dark force (Darkie) and spirituality (Clare) is the ideal totality the poet tries to become. The protagonist's double images are a significant aesthetic tool to understand the protagonist's psychology, presenting an aspect of resonance and ambiguity, thereby enriching his work.

Edward Bond의 극에 나타난 Aggro-effect 연구

This paper aims to deal with the effectiveness of “agro-effect” demonstrated in Edward Bond's plays such as Early Morning, “Black Mass”, “Passion”, “Grandma Faust”, “The Swing”, Narrow Road to the Deep North, Lear and Restoration. Among today's living British dramatists, Bond has been most deeply influenced by Brecht. In continuing in the vein of Brecht's epic drama, he tried to explore the consciousness of man through the use of the epic techniques. Furthermore, he has taken it a step further and developed its alienation effect into “aggro-effect”. Unlike alienation effect, however, “agro-effect” attempts to induce active participation from the audience. Therefore, the audience emotionally commit themselves to what's happening on the stage. During the performance of the play the effective combination of epic technique’s alienation effect and grotesque humor keeps unfailing tension between critical detachment and emotional involvement.

사이버 가정학습에 대한 학습자의 태도 및 만족도 분석

본 연구는 중고등학생을 대상으로 방과 후 집에서 이루어지는 사이버 가정학습에 대한 태도와 만족도에 관한 영향요인을 분석하는 데 주된 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 사이버 가정학습에 대한 태도와 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 유용성, 가시성, 주관적 규범 등을 도입하고, 유용성은 다시 콘텐츠 질, 상호작용, 촉진조건 등에 의해 영향을 받는 다는 연구가설을 설정하고, 고등학생을 대상으로 수집한 설문자료를 토대로하여 실증적으로 분석하였다. 검증결과 학습태도와 자기주도성이 학습만족에 영향을 미치며, 학습태도는 주관적 규범, 가시성, 유용성 등이 모두 영향을 미치며, 유용성은 다시 학습콘텐츠, 상호작용에 의해 영향을 받음을 알 수 있었다. 촉진조건은 별다른 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. E-homestudy refers to e-Learning after school. This concept has been introduced by Korean Government as a substitute for expensive private tutoring. The purpose of this research is to explore the perceptions and relationships among determinants affecting the attitude and satisfaction level in e-homestudy. Such factors as subjective norms, visibility, perceived usefulness, quality of contents, facilitating conditions, interactions are introduced into the model. The survey results show that the attitude and the self-directed learning level influence the satisfaction level in e-homestudy; the subjective norms, visibility, and perceived usefulness are the major determinant affecting the attitude; the quality of contents as well as interactions have positive impact on the perceived usefulness.

Edward Bond의 The Sea 연구 : 사회구조적 폭력과 광기를 중심으로

This paper aims to deal with the effects of a rigidly sectionalized society on its victims in Edward Bond's The Sea. The play shows a conventional class confrontation set in a English seaside village in the early 1900s : Mrs. Rafi, the village dictator versus her main victim, Hatch, a town's draper. Mrs. Rafi practises a form of mental and emotional violence to those beneath her. Hatch, oppressed by Mrs. Rafi and repressed by himself, begins to create the false inner world. As he completely loses touch with reality under the economic and legal pressure, he invents a fantasy of revenge and aggression which enslaves both himself and men like Hollarcut. Willy, who comes from the outside the village, provides the outlet for Hatch's rage and madness which is activated by societal pressures. While Hatch's inability to reach an understanding of his situation culminates in the futile intensity of his knifing of the corpse washed up on the beach, Willy works steadily towards a view of his world that allows for optimism.

멜로드라마에서 사실주의 드라마로의 발전: 『오들리 부인의 비밀』과 『계급』을 중심으로

19세기에 영국 연극의 한 장르인 멜로드라마는 선정적이며 도식적인 플로트, 선과 악을 대변하는 유형적 인물, 권선징악의 결말을 특징으로 하는 유형의 드라마를 지칭하였다. 당대의 대표적 멜로드라마 『오들리 부인의 비밀』은 이런 멜로드라마의 모든 특징을 갖춘 극으로 우연의 일치(coincidence), 위장(disguise), 광기(madness), 숨겨진 정보(buried information) 등 진부한 극적 기교의 빈번한 사용, 과장되고 선정적인 극의 구성, 일관성 없는 등장인물의 행동, 대화보다는 방백과 과장된 액션에 의존하는 내용 전달 등으로 인해 당대에는 상당히 대중적 인기를 얻었다. 그러나 사실주의에 대한 관심이 고조되는 가운데 새로운 시대를 대변하는 연극의 출현은 불가피하였다. 이런 상황 속에서 발표된 T.W. 로버트슨의 『계급』(1867)은 멜로드라마적 극적 구성에 기초한 가정극으로서 당대의 엄격한 사회 계층의 문제를 희극적으로 다룬 작품이다. 로버트슨은 연극의 과장된 연기술, 비현실적 장치 등에 대신하여 연출기능의 독립, 사실적 무대장치와 도구의 사용, 과장된 연기를 지양하기 위한 무대 지문의 빈번한 사용, 사실주의적 대사와 인물 설정 등을 통해 관객들이 자신들의 일상생활이 무대 위에서 자연스럽게 재연되고 있음을 확인하게 하였다. 다양한 시도를 통해 사실적 무대의 재현을 시도했다는 점에서 로버트슨은 최초의 현대 영국 극작가이며 『계급』은 멜로드라마에서 현실에 바탕을 둔 사실주의 극으로의 발전에 중요한 전환점이 되었다고 평가할 수 있겠다.

정보화 사회와 독서 정보화 사회의 독서매체 확장을 위한 일고(一考)

Since the emergence of information-oriented society and digital revolution, we need to extend the concept of traditional reading and search for alternative methodology to let us access more easily and rapidly to various forms of reading materials or enormous information database. Traditional pattern of reading tended to focus on printed materials representatively called ``book``, however, boundary of reading should be extended according to change of communication skills and potential of new reading environments such as Internet. Based on such a background, this study was intended to find out possible reading methods, types of media for reading, several kinds of new literacy, and important aspects from the perspective of design in media environments for integrated computer technology. User friendliness, ease of use, and user-centered environment.s were suggested as basic assumptions for designing of new hypertext! hypermedia reading environm- ents. The main reason that new media have to be integrated into already existed traditional reading environments is to provide us with several options applied to other patterns of reading for new generation called ``N(Network) gener­ation``.
