In order to estimate the effects of Eucommiae Cortex, which is one of the most important herb medicines use for invigorating the liver and kidney and strengthening ones and muscles, fetus-soothing etc., this experiment was conducted the quantitative analysis of geniposidic acid and geniposide by HPLC, and the analgesic effect of mice, the lipid metabolism of rats, the catecholamine concentration in the brain and the plsma of rats stressed by immobilization. The result obtained are as follows. 1. The contents of goniposidic acid and geniposide were 22.3mg/g, 5.4mg/g in Eucommiae Cortex without processing, and 119.8mg/g, 10.4mg/g in Eucommiae Cortex fried with salts. 2. In analgesic effects of mice, there were all significant Eucommiae Cortex without processing and Eucommiae Cortex fried with salts. 3. In the effects of lipid metabolism of rats, there were not significant on the change of organ weight and the level of serum total lipid and total cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid,HDL-cholesterol. But, there were significant on the level of free fatty acid. 4. In the effects of the catecholamines concentration in the brain and plsma of rats stressed by immobilization, there were all significant in Eucommiae Cortex without processing and Eucommiae Cortex fried with salts. especially in case of norepinephrine. From the results mentioned above, there were singficant on the analgesic effects of mice, and the catecholamine concentration in the brain and the plsma of rats stressed by immobilization. And there were different from Eucommiae Cortex without processing and Eucommiae Cortex fried with salts in the contents of goniposidic acid and geniposide. These results are relative to invigorating the liver and kidney and strengthening ones and muscles, and fetus-soothing, therefore when we use Eucommiae Cortex, it is more desirable to use Eucommiae Cortex with processing.

녹용의 약효를 규명코자 in vivo와 in vitro 실험을 시행하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. phenylhydrazine을 투여하여 용혈성빈혈을 일으킨 흰쥐에게 대록과 매화록의 추출물을 경구투여한 결과 각각 25%와 15%까지의 적혈구수 회복 촉진 효과를 나타내었다(in νivo 실험). 적혈구수 증가에 따르는 혈색소의 증가의 추이를 관찰하고져 관계효소중의 한가지 인 ${\delta}$-aminolevulinate dehydratase의 반응액에 대록의 추출액을 첨가시키면 10~37% 정도까지 효소활성을 촉진시켰으며, 특히 phenylhydrazine 투여균에 있어서 현저하였다. 간균질액 중의 ${\delta}$-aminolevulinate dehydratase의 최적 pH는 6.8이고, 최적온도는 $37^{\circ}C$로서 열에 불안정하였으며, 효소의 안정기간은 1주일정도로 비교적 짧았다. Elk deer horn and Formosa deer horn extracts, when orally administered for 4 days after phenylhydrazine HCl injection to induce hemolytic anemia, showed remarkable stimulation effects on the erythrocyte synthesis, 25 and 15% respectively in vivo. Liver homogenate containing ${\delta}$-aminolevulinate dehydratase demonstrated increased activity with maximum of 36.8% in the presence of elk deer horn extract supporting partly the stimulating effect of deer horn on the hematopoietic action of albino rats.

Elk deer horn and Formosa deer horn extracts, when orally administered for 4 days after phenylhydrazine-HCl injection to induce hemolytic anemia, showed remarkable stimulation effects on the erythrocyte synthesis, 25 and 15% respectively in vivo. Liver homogenate containing δ-aminolevulinate dehydratase demonstrated increased activity with maximum of 36.8% in the presence of elk deer horn extract supporting partly the stimulating effect of deer horn on the hematopoietic action of albino rats.

This experiment was carried out to investigate enzyme activities and microbial multiplication on production of the fermented feed. Among 175 strains isolated from the Hyeongsan River area, 7 strains of dominant microbes were selected and identified. The cultural conditions of these strains were examined. As a result, the strains No. Mo2, No. Do3, No. Do4, No. Go5 and No. Mo9 selected were identified as Bacillus brevis, B. firmus, B. subtilis, B. pumilus and B. cereus was respectively. Strain No. Mo5 selected was identified as B. licheniformis and strain No. Do4-1 selected as B. circulans. The optimum temperature range for the growth of 6 strains was 20-45℃, and 60℃ for the strain No. Mo5. All 7 strains well utilized glucose, sucrose, d-cellobiose, d-sorbitol, d-fructose, CMC, lignosulfate, catalase and gelatin during culture. Cell population of Do4, Do4-1 and Mo5 strains in mixed culture with 1% wheat straw medium was 10 cells/ml after 2-3 day's culture. Decomposition degree with mixed culture of Do4. Do4-1 and Mo5 strains were more effective in lignosulfate medium than cellulose and CMC, and cell population in 1% rice straw medium was averaged to 10^7.5 cells/ml after 2-3 days' culture. The strains No. Mo9 and No. Go5 show the nearest correlation(91-100%) according to Hasekawass criteria.

This study is to know the concept and function of Vital Gate. The results are summarized as follows, 1. Vital Gate is the original of life, which is essential to life. 2. A physiological function if Vital Gate controls the physiological activity of the whole body through Triple Heater. 3. It is said that a partial establishment of Vital Gate is the concept of Hwang jeong(黃庭) as the central point of the body. 4. It is effective that a clinical application of Vital Gate uses on the basis of Zoagyuyeum(左歸飮) and Woogyuyeym(右歸陰). 5. Fire of the Vital Gate means a original activity of life-activity and is different from the concept of the fire of Pericardium as a substitute for King Fire. 6. It is said that to explain the essence of Vital Gate in relation of kidney is to say the generative function. According to the above results, Vital Gate is understood as the control of physiological activity of the whole body as the original point of life-activity.
