Erythropoietic activity in anemic Plasma of chronic posthemorrhagic anemic men was studied in rats after subcutaneous injection of anemic plasma. Anemic plasma was obtained from blood donors who sold their blood once or twice a week for one or two years to blood bank. Hemoglobin concentrations of 8 blood donors ranged between 4.6 and 8.4 gm/100 ml. Pooled plasma was treated by acidification-boiling method and adjusted to pH 7.5 by adding 0.1 N NaOH. 7ml/kg and 15ml/kg of anemic plasma filtrate was injected to 2 groups of rats respectively for 7 and 8 days. Hemoglobin concentrations, red blood cell counts and reticulocyte counts were observed before and after injection of anemic plasma and no change was induced by the injection. Subsequently, it was concluded that there was no erythropoietin of high titer in the plasma of chronic post-hemorrhagic anemic men.

In order to investigate the electrphysiological effect of vanadate, a potent inhibitor of Na^+-K^+ pump, on the cardiac muscle, the alteration of transmembrane potential as influenced by the drug was measured in rabbit SA rodes in vitro by means of KCI glass intracellular microelectrodes. The followings were results of findings: 1. The rate of spontaneous firing was decreased in the presence of vanadate and the maximum inhibition which was about 50% of contral level was obtained at drug concentrations of 10^-3 M or higher. 2. The maximum diastolic potential(M.D.P.) was depressed by vanadate in a dose-dependent manner and the maximum inhibitory effect was obtained at the drug concentration of 10^-3 M. However the peripheral pacemaker cells were more resistant to the drug effect than the central pacemaker cells at lower concentrations of the drug. 3. In both central and perepheral pacemaker cells, vanadate had no effect on the M.D.P. in concentrations up to 5×10^-4 M. However on at 5×10^-2 M, the drug depressed the M.D.P. in the peripheral cells. 4. Changes of the action potential induced by vanadate were qualitatively similar to those occuring when the calcium concentration of the bathing medium was raised to 4mM. These results may be interpreted as that vanadate increases the rate of Ca^++ influx info the cell in S-A nodes.

The effects of Ca^++ ion on forceresting relation of contraction were studied in papillary muscles isolated from right ventricle of rabbits. Isometric tension was recorded with force transducer (F50, Norco) bathing in normal Tyrode, Ca^++ 8mM/L Tyrode solution at 35℃. Control stimulations were operated as one per second and varied from shorter than control to 120 sec. Within one second, the first contractile wave after resting period increased toward control value, since then slowly decayed in normal Tyrode solution. In the first wave after resting period of Ca^++ 8mM/L, contractility expressed as percent to control value within 1 second, which proportion was same as normal Tyrode. After 10 second of resting period, percent of the first wave to control value, signifilly increased in Ca^++ 8mM/L that of normal Tyrode. The second contractile wave in Ca^++ 8mM/L increase from 10 to 40 second of resting period exhibited by first wave rather than calcium concentration. The data suggests that contractility closely relate to bathing calcium concentration within 10 second and more than 10 second resting that is appear to magnify by calcium.
