An observation was made on the duration of estrus and the blood values during the estrous cycles in 15 mongrel bitches. The results obtianed were as follows ; 1. The length of proestrus was reckoned up the time from first appearance of blood in the vaginal smears to first acceptance of the male; varied 4 to 12 days (mean±S.D.=7.8±2.6 days). 2. The duration of estrus was determined by the acceptance test following the days between first and last acceptance; varied from 4 to 13 days (8.1±2.6 days). 3. The duration of visible bieeding out of vigina varied from 12 to 23 days (16.9±2.6days). 4. The seasonal occurrence of estrus did not exhibit. 5. During proestrus and estrus, the erythrocyte numbers increased 5-6% above those of established for beagle in anestrus. No significant variation in total leucocyte numbers was noted during the estrous cycles.

1) During 5 month (Oct. 1988-Feb. 1989), abortion (11 heads), stillbirth (3 heads), and congenital abnorrnalities(28 heads) of newborn were occurred in 42 milk cows raised in Cheju island. These cows were diagnosed with Akabane disease by clinical, pathological and serological test. 2) In May and Oct. 1989, 213 cattles at 10 farms were investigated on the actual condition of possessing Akabane antibody. The results was that 210 heads(98.6%) in 213 cattles reacted as positive condition in Akabane antibody. The antibody titer was from 4 to over 256. 3) During some years, the auther suppose that the vaccination for Akabane disease will be unnecessary because of higher positive antibody reaction except the newly introduced cattle.

This study was conducted to fine the adaptatbility of Korean Native Cattle lacking in the resistance ability to Theileriosis being occured by ticks born parasites in Cheju Island. Data used in this study were collected from none-treated and treated Thpileria sergenti blood vaccine to Korean Native Cattle, Cheju Native Cattle and Cheju Native CattlexBrahman crossbreds during the grazing season in 1988. The parasitemia level of Theileria sergenti in artificial immunized Korean Native Cattle were fewer than none-treated Korean Cattle's, due to immunizing effects. the RBC and PCV reduction were prevented, and average daily gain's 0.25kg in artificial immunized Korean Native Cattle was higher than those of 0.20kg in none-treated. The mortality numbers were one in artificial immunized Korean Native Cattle and four in none-treated Korean Native Cattle. The resistance ability of Theileriosis of Korean Native Cattle was the weakest and Cheju Native Cattle×Brah-man crossbred was the strongest among the breeds.

Enzyme-linked Immuno sorbent Assay (ELISA) for the serological diagnosis of Brucella abortus was developed and compared with plate agglutination test. Cell wall antigen was extracted from Brucella abortus 1119-3 by sonication and with a sodium deoxychlate solution. Optimum protein concentration of coating antigen were $0.4{\mu}g/100{\mu}{\ell}$ protein on each microtiter plate well. Horse radish peroxidase (HRP) labeled protein-G was used as a tracer of reacted antibodies. ELISA confirmed the agreeable results of 40 cases out of 43 cases by plate aggulutination test. ELISA diagnosed positive cases(10 out of 12) and negative cases (1 out of 12) with dubious sera by plate agglutination test. From this results ELISA could be used for the early diagnostic tools of Brucellosis in cattle.

In this experiment, we studied the sero-positive rate of akabane virus in cattle from Jeju-do and analyzed the seroepidemiological features. In an analysis of 1051 samples, the positive rate for neutralizing antibody in sera collected in nine regions on Jeju-do was 56.7%. The rate varied with the region. The positive rate was 69.6% in Aewol, 63.1% in Jeju city, 54.4% in Anduck, 51.0% in Hallim, 69.8% in Jocheun, 47.6% in Pyosun, 40% in Daejeong, 30.0% in Flankyung, 71.6% in Namwon, 24.5% in Sungsan, 83.3% in Seokypo and 44.5% in Gujwa, respectively. The rate also depended on the age of the cattle. The positive rate was 67.2% in calves 0- to 12-month old, 48.3% in cattle 13- to 24-month old, 65.4% in cattle 25- to 36-month old, arid 65.4% in cattle more than 37 months old. To isolate the virus from calves with malformations including arthrogryposis and hydranencephaly, cerebral homogenates were inoculated into Vero cells, which were determined for cytopathic effect (CPE). Vero cells with CPE were examined for Akabane virus using an electron microscope (EM) and indirect immunofluorescent antibody test (WA). Typical virus particles with a width of 90-l3Onm and specific immunofluorescence in the cytoplasm of infected cells were sought for identification.
