The repairing of concrete structures has become an important task in recent years. Prevention is undoubtedly the best cure for the problem. In the meantime, however, many structures built in the last two or three decades will continue to deteriorate, and a substantial number are in need of urgent repairs. This paper concentrates on the most common repair technique in which in the course of applying the repair materials, the cover and steel/concrete bond over shear regions of the damaged reinforced concrete elements is removed prior to the application of the repair material. Eight beams were tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear capacities. The variables in the test program were the extent of removal of steel/concrete bond; the compressive strength of concrete; the amount of the shear reinforcement. Two of the beams were repaired original beams, three beams were repaired by removing the cover concrete to 50mm, and the last three were repaired by respect to cracking, deflection, ultimate strength, shear deformation, and the mode of failure.Test results show that the most significant strength loss occurred in the cases where there was no shear reinforcement. However, in the case of specimen with web reinforcement, the reduction in the strength of the repaired beams was not affected when the concrete cover(50mm) was replaced or the 100mm layer was replaced.
