        Original Article: Food Science/Microbiology : Effect of Fermentation on the Antioxidant Activity of Rice Bran by Monascus pilosus KCCM60084

        In this study, we optimized fermentation conditions for the solid state fermentation of rice bran with Monascus pilosus KCCM60084, and the antioxidant activities were investigated. Optimal fermentation conditions were determined by the production of Monacolin K, a functional secondary metabolites with cholesterol lowering activity. The highest Monacolin K production were 2.88 mg/g observed on day 10 with 45% moisture content in the substrate when in℃ulated with 5% in℃ulum (w/w). Reducing power, iron chelating activity and ABTS+ radical scavenging activity were significantly enhanced after fermentation by 60, 80, and 38% respectively. Furthermore, the content of total flavonoid were found to be increased by 4.58 fold. Based on these results, Monascus-fermented rice bran showed strong possibility to be used as a natural antioxidant agent due to its enhanced antioxidant activity.

        High dietary inorganic phosphate increases lung tumorigenesis and alters Akt signaling.

        <P>RATIONALE: Phosphate (Pi) is an essential nutrient to living organisms. Recent surveys indicate that the intake of Pi has increased steadily. Our previous studies have indicated that elevated Pi activates the Akt signaling pathway. An increased knowledge of the response of lung cancer tissue to high dietary Pi may provide an important link between diet and lung tumorigenesis. OBJECTIVES: The current study was performed to elucidate the potential effects of high dietary Pi on lung cancer development. METHODS: Experiments were performed on 5-week-old male K-ras(LA1) lung cancer model mice and 6-week-old male urethane-induced lung cancer model mice. Mice were fed a diet containing 0.5% Pi (normal Pi) and 1.0% Pi (high Pi) for 4 weeks. At the end of the experiment, all mice were killed. Lung cancer development was evaluated by diverse methods. MEASUREMENT AND MAIN RESULTS: A diet high in Pi increased lung tumor progression and growth compared with normal diet. High dietary Pi increased the sodium-dependent inorganic phosphate transporter-2b protein levels in the lungs. High dietary consumption of Pi stimulated pulmonary Akt activity while suppressing the protein levels of tumor suppressor phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 as well as Akt binding partner carboxyl-terminal modulator protein, resulting in facilitated cap-dependent protein translation. In addition, high dietary Pi significantly stimulated cell proliferation in the lungs of K-ras(LA1) mice. CONCLUSIONS: Our results showed that high dietary Pi promoted tumorigenesis and altered Akt signaling, thus suggesting that careful regulation of dietary Pi may be critical for lung cancer prevention as well as treatment.</P>

      • Effects of 7-hydroxy-3-methoxycadalene on cell cycle, apoptosis and protein translation in A549 lung cancer cells

        <P>Previously we reported that cadalene extracted from Zelkova serrata inhibited lung tumorigenesis in mice. However, the precise mechanism has not yet investigated. Here, we examined the effects of cadalene on signal pathways important for apoptosis, cell cycle, and protein translation in lung cancer cells. Our results showed that cadalene suppressed the expression of Akt and its phosphor-forms through controlling PI3K and PTEN. Cadalene also induced apoptosis through facilitating pro-apoptotic protein expression. In addition, cadalene caused cell cycle arrest and decreased mTOR-mediated protein translation. Taken together, cadalene may be developed as a lung cancer therapeutic agent in the future.</P>

        中国外资企业非正常撤离之现状及法律对策

        In recent years, there has been a phenomenon which happens in Jiaodong Peninsula and Pearl River Delta of china that some foreign-funded enterprises disappear overnight. The abnormal withdrawal of the foreign-funded enterprise has occurred frequently since the breaking out of American economic crisis. And this tendency is increasing. This not only brings serious economic losses to our country, but also has a negative effect on economic and trade exchanges and social stability. The phenomenon has been a matter of great concern ofthe central and local government departments and interested parties. At the same time, the government has issued some department rules and remedies. However, there are still many shortcomings in analysis and legal measures for the abnormal withdrawal of the foreign-funded enterprise now. So it is necessary to deeply analyze the phenomenon and the juristical puzzledom in the legal perspective. What's more, the effective remedy mechanism should be put forward.

        Discovery of <i>N</i>-((4-([1,2,4]Triazolo[1,5-<i>a</i>]pyridin-6-yl)-5-(6-methylpyridin-2-yl)-1<i>H</i>-imidazol-2-yl)methyl)-2-fluoroaniline (EW-7197): A Highly Potent, Selective, and Orally Bioavailable Inhibitor of TGF-β Type I Receptor Kinase as Ca

        <P>A series of 2-substituted-4-([1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-<I>a</I>]pyridin-6-yl)-5-(6-methylpyridin-2-yl)imidazoles was synthesized and evaluated to optimize a prototype inhibitor of TGF-β type I receptor kinase (ALK5), <B>6</B>. Combination of replacement of a quinoxalin-6-yl moiety of <B>6</B> with a [1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-<I>a</I>]pyridin-6-yl moiety, insertion of a methyleneamino linker, and a <I>o</I>-F substituent in the phenyl ring markedly increased ALK5 inhibitory activity, kinase selectivity, and oral bioavailability. The <B>12b</B> (EW-7197) inhibited ALK5 with IC<SUB>50</SUB> value of 0.013 μM in a kinase assay and with IC<SUB>50</SUB> values of 0.0165 and 0.0121 μM in HaCaT (3TP-luc) stable cells and 4T1 (3TP-luc) stable cells, respectively, in a luciferase assay. Selectivity profiling of <B>12b</B> using a panel of 320 protein kinases revealed that it is a highly selective ALK5/ALK4 inhibitor. Pharmacokinetic study with <B>12b</B>·HCl in rats showed an oral bioavailability of 51% with high systemic exposure (AUC) of 1426 ng × h/mL and maximum plasma concentration (<I>C</I><SUB>max</SUB>) of 1620 ng/mL.         중국 경제발전전환시기의 외국인투자법제

        With the rapid development of economy, China is experiencing a social upheaval. China has been called "hot spot"of international investment for a long time. But, recent years, as the deep-rooted contradiction of the international financial crisis have not yet been eliminated major economies are lacking in strength; the European debt crisis continue to attack and the global economy's recession, Foreign-invested enterprises are facing huge challenges they had never met. Shanghai, as the center of China's economy, had made excellent achievements under the reform and open up policy in 30 years. But, the transition of mode of economic development and attracting investment are also facing many challenges. Shanghai, an international metropolis, as the driving force of China's economy, can be measured as the overall level of development of Chinese economy, especially, when Chinese government had decided to build an international financial center and international shipping center in Shanghai before 2020. So it's necessary and significant to explore its comparative advantages and its driving force role in China's economy from different approach. At the same time, Shanghai's economic development and effect of attracting investment in transition period can spread to the whole China and the world. In the Eleventh Five-Year period, after overcoming the impact of international financial crisis and the limitations of its own development, Shanghai obtained good achievements in attracting investment. On this basis, Shanghai's investment is mainly concentrated in the regional headquarters of multinational companies, modern services industry and advanced manufacturing, innovation of technology and enterprise restructuring, research filed and so on in the Twelfth Five-Year period, Shanghai also strive to walk in the front of other provinces. In order to achieve the goal of attracting investment, Shanghai will make a series of policies and expand investment services to attract more investments. Currently, due to the limitation of investment environment and investment policies, there are many problems in attracting foreign investors. In order to solve these problems, the author list following measures: First, the investment strategy should be focused on specific industries and fields; Second, full support from the central government; Third, the local regulations and policies of investment in Shanghai should be further improved.

        In order to create a equal playing field for foreign and tax environment, and promote the transformation of the mode of economic growth and upgrade the industrial structure, promoting the coordinated development of regional economy, improving the quality of China s utilization of foreign capital and the level of taxation to promote China s modernization drive, in March 2007 and November, China has successively enacted the “Corporate Income Tax Law” and the implementation of the enterprise income tax law. “The unified tax system” as the main characteristics of the enterprise income tax law and its implementing regulations promulgated and implemented in China is a major area of tax reform measures, it is in accordance with the scientific concept of development and improving the socialist market economic system overall requirements, in accordance with “Jane system wide tax base, low tax rates and strict collection” of the principle of tax reform, learning from international experience, the establishment of various types of enterprises uniform application of the scientific, standardized enterprise income tax system. However, with the enterprise income tax law and its implementing regulations of the promulgation and implementation of foreign-funded enterprises on the investment environment in China has also increased the worries, in the light of this situation, we have a need for a specific analysis of China s enterprise income tax system changes to the investment environment, especially the impact of the environment for foreign investment. New enterprise income tax law and the implementation of the specific provisions of the tax rate, tax incentives, businesses and residents of non-resident enterprises, taxable income, the source of with holdings, in particular tax adjustments, such as the collection and management of the content, and the various kinds of enterprises the investment environment, in the investment environment, legal and policy environment, will have a significant impact. In view of China s enterprise income tax system changes in the investment environment, foreign-funded enterprises will have to adopt various measures to deal with: the reform of the taxation system as foreign-funded enterprises into the contents of favorable factors; foreign-funded enterprises will gradually adjust its investment structure, as far as possible to put their energy release will be able to enjoy tax incentives in the investment projects; foreign-funded enterprises will be actively explore the market in China s western inland, there is a need in the central and western areas in search of new investment opportunities in foreign-funded enterprises need specific course of business to a variety of flexible and diverse measures to ease the tax burden as much as possible.
