        Correlations Between Fasciology and Yin Yang Doctrine

        The aim of this study is to explore the correlations between fasciology and yin yang doctrine. Professor Yuan developed fasciology by three-dimensional reconstruction of connective tissue (fascia) in the trunk and limbs of the human body and tracing back to tissue origins in light of biological evolution and developmental biology. Fasciology states that the human body can be divided into two systems: the supporting-storing system and the functional system. This article elaborates on the roles of the two systems and their mutual relationship. The two systems are used to analyze the yin,the yang, and their relationship. The two systems are promoted but also restricted in different contexts. The supporting-storing system is formed by undifferentiated connective tissue and provides undifferentiated cells and nutrients for differentiated cells of the functional system. Thus, the supporting-storing system could be classified as quiet, similar to yin. The functional system continuously maintains the various functional activities of the human body. Thus, the functional system could be classified as active, similar to yang. In interpreting the yin yang doctrine from the point of view of fasciology, yin can be compared with the supporting-storing system and yang can be compared with the functional system.

      • Accessibility Assessment Via Workspace Estimation

        The process of evaluating a built environment for accessibility is known as “accessibility assessment.” Determining accessibility is closely related to the problem of determining possible motions of a specific kinematic structure – given an environment and a mobile device, how much of the environment is accessible? Given these similarities, here the accessibility assessment process is reformulated as a motion planning problem. Rather than treating each of the degrees of freedom ‘equally’ while planning, we explore a hierarchical characteristic of all of the degrees of freedom when constructing the roadmap. The approach is demonstrated on simulated environments as well as on a student residence at York University.

        Consistency check of charged hadron multiplicities and fragmentation functions in SIDIS

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We derived the conditions on certain combinations of integrals of the fragmentation functions of pion using HERMES data for the sum of the charged pion multiplicities from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) off the deuteron target. In our derivation the nucleon parton distribution functions (PDFs) are assumed to be isospin SU(2) symmetric. Similar conditions have also been obtained for the fragmentation functions (FFs) of kaon by the sum of charged kaon multiplicities as well. We have chosen several FFs to study the impact of those conditions we have derived. Among those FFs, we find that the fragmentation functions produced by the nonlocal chiral-quark model (NL<I>χ</I>QM) constantly satisfy the conditions. Furthermore, the ratios of the strange PDFs S ( x , <SUP> Q 2 </SUP> ) and the non-strange PDFs Q ( x , <SUP> Q 2 </SUP> ) extracted from the charged pion and kaon multiplicities differ from each other significantly. Finally, we demonstrate that the HERMES pion multiplicity data are unlikely to be compatible with two widely-used PDFs, namely CTEQ6L and leading order NNPDF3.0.</P>

      • How Korean Retailers Expand Private Label Markets Abroad: Evidence from the Chinese Fresh Food Market

        Purpose – The increasing share of Korean private label products (PLPs) in the domestic market helped generate lucrative revenue. In recent years, major South Korean retailers have begun to cast their sights on overseas markets and actively export their PLPs. In China, the proportion of private label fresh food (PLFF) is gradually expanding amid the development of the new retailing model. A profound understanding of the relationship between private label fresh produce and purchase intention may be the answer to helping Chinese retailer private labels expand supply chains in Korea. This study, taking Chinese retailers as an example, examines the impacts of selection factors of private label fresh food and perceived value on purchase intention. Apart from that, the relationship between the selection factors and purchase intention will be analyzed with perceived value as a mediator. Design/methodology – This work aims to empirically analyze the purchase intention of private label fresh food using statistical analysis. In this study, a hypothetical causal model consisting of 6 latent variables and 24 measured variables is developed based on the literature review. To validate the research hypotheses and the research model, SPSS23.0/AMOS23.0 is used to analyze factors such as validity and reliability, as well as structural equation modeling. Findings – The hypothetical model established in this study is of general applicability. In respect to PLFF, perceived value, while significantly influencing purchase intention in combination with four selection factors (perceived quality, perceived price, brand trust, and store image), mediates partially between the first three factors and purchase intention, which rules out the impact and mediating effect of store image on purchase intention. Originality/value – These research results, as helpful insights into the present circumstances of Chinese PLFF in the domestic market, provide useful information and guidance for Korean retailers and service providers to innovate production and service, as well as develop marketing and promotion strategies, so that they can shift private label goods with advantages from domestic demand to export, thus increasing overseas profitability. Further, this work will also contribute to relevant research.

        Impairment of AMPK-α2 augments detrusor contractions in bladder ischemia

        Purpose: Ischemia disrupts cellular energy homeostasis. Adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase alpha-2 (AMPK-α2) is a subunit of AMPK that senses cellular energy deprivation and signals metabolic stress. Our goal was to examine the expression levels and functional role of AMPK-α2 in bladder ischemia. Materials and Methods: Iliac artery atherosclerosis and bladder ischemia were engendered in apolipoprotein E knockout rats by partial arterial endothelial denudation using a balloon catheter. After eight weeks, total and phosphorylated AMPK-α2 expression was analyzed by western blotting. Structural integrity of AMPK-α2 protein was assessed by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Functional role of AMPK-α2 was examined by treating animals with the AMPK activator 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide-1-beta-D ribofuranoside (AICAR). Tissue contractility was measured in the organ bath and bladder nerve density was examined by immunostaining. Results: Total AMPK-α2 expression increased in bladder ischemia, while phosphorylated AMPK-α2 was significantly downregulated. LC-MS/MS suggested post-translational modification of AMPK-α2 functional domains including phosphorylation sites, suggesting accumulation of catalytically inactive AMPK-α2 in bladder ischemia. Treatment of rats with AICAR diminished the force of overactive detrusor contractions and increased bladder capacity but did not have a significant effect on the frequency of bladder contractions. AICAR diminished contractile reactivity of ischemic tissues in the organ bath and prevented loss of nerve fibers in bladder ischemia. Conclusions: Ischemia induces post-translational modification of AMPK-α2 protein. Impairment of AMPK-α2 may contribute to overactive detrusor contractions and loss of nerve fibers in bladder ischemia. AMPK activators may have therapeutic potential against detrusor overactivity and neurodegeneration in bladder conditions involving ischemia.

        Induction Chemotherapy Plus Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy versus Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy Alone in Locoregionally Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in Children and Adolescents: A Matched Cohort Analysis

        Purpose The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long-term clinical outcome and toxicity of induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by concomitant chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) compared with CCRT alone for the treatment of children and adolescent locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LACANPC). Materials and Methods A total of 194 locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients younger than 21 years who received CCRT with or without IC before were included in the study population. Overall survival (OS) rate, progression-free survival (PFS) rate, locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRFS) rate, and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) rate were assessed by the Kaplan-Meier method and a log-rank test. Treatment toxicities were clarified and compared between two groups. Results One hundred and thiry of 194 patients received IC+CCRT. Patients who were younger and with more advanced TNM stage were more likely to receive IC+CCRT and intensive modulated radiotherapy. The addition of IC before CCRT failed to improve survival significantly. The matched analysis identified 43 well-balanced patients in both two groups. With a median follow-up of 51.5 months, no differences were found between the IC+CCRT group and the CCRT group in 5-year OS (83.7% vs. 74.6%, p=0.153), PFS (79.2% vs. 73.4%, p=0.355), LRFS (97.7% vs. 88.2%, p=0.083), and DMFS (81.6% vs. 81.6%, p=0.860). N3 was an independent prognostic factor predicting poorer OS, PFS, and DMFS. The addition of IC was associated with increased rates of grade 3 to 4 neutropenia. Conclusion This study failed to demonstrate that adding IC before CCRT could provide a significant additional survival benefit for LACANPC patients. Further investigations are warranted.

      • IWApriori: An Association Rule Mining and Self-updating Method Based on Weighted Increment

        The mining of association rules plays an important role in fault prediction. Many studies have shown that there is an obvious temporal and spatial correlation between the failure records of the cluster system. Therefore, most cluster system failure prediction engines are built based on causal correlation analysis between log events. However, the original system log file usually contains a large number of invalid records (duplicate or non-fault related records), which makes the mining of event correlation extremely difficult and seriously affects the efficiency and accuracy of fault prediction. Therefore, this paper proposes an association rule mining and self-updating method based on weighted increment, named IWApriori (improved weighted Apriori algorithm). The method includes two important steps: 1) log preprocessing; 2) mining and updating of association rules based on improved algorithm IWApriori. This method can effectively improve the rule completeness and realize the efficient mining and updating of rules in the whole life cycle of the system. In addition, we used the real log data set Blue Gene/L to validate our method. The results show that our association rule mining method is better than other methods in terms of time performance, space performance and the effectiveness of mining rules.

        Optimal Packet Scheduling in a Multiple Access Channel with Energy Harvesting Transmitters

        In this paper, we investigate the optimal packet scheduling problem in a two-user multiple access communication system,where the transmitters are able to harvest energy from the nature. Under a deterministic system setting, we assume that the energy harvesting times and harvested energy amounts are known before the transmission starts. For the packet arrivals, we assume that packets have already arrived and are ready to be transmitted at the transmitter before the transmission starts. Our goal is to minimize the time by which all packets from both users are delivered to the destination through controlling the transmission powers and transmission rates of both users. We first develop a generalized iterative backward waterfilling algorithm to characterize the maximum departure region of the transmitters for any given deadline T . Then, based on the sequence of maximum departure regions at energy arrival instants, we decompose the transmission completion time minimization problem into convex optimization problems and solve the overall problem efficiently.

        New methodology of backbone curve for RC perforated shear walls

        Following a series of experiments on isolated low-rise RC shear walls with openings, a theoretical study on the backbone curve of a perforated shear wall shows that there are some important observations from experimental results that make clear a semi-empirical formula of the backbone curve of a perforated wall. Critical shear zones can be depicted from the configuration of shear walls with openings. Different factors, including the size and location of shear wall openings, the wall's height/width ratio, horizontal and vertical steel bar ratios, and location and amount of diagonal steel bars are involved in the derivation of the backbone curve. Bending and shear effects are also considered in the paper. In addition, a comparison of load and displacement for solid and perforated shear walls is discussed. Generally, the comparison between experimental curves and computed backbone curves is favorable.
