      • 청국장 발효에 적합한 미생물의 분리 및 특성

        장류발효 식품으로부터 protease 및 amylase 활성이 높은 균주를 중심으로 348 균주를 1차 분리하고, 그 분리균 중 2% skim milk가 함유된 LB평판배지(SM배지)화 2%corn starch가 함유된 LB평판배지(CM배지)에서 halo zone이 크고, 두 효소의 활성이 동시에 높은 SW-251균주를 최종 선별하였다. SW-251균주의 생육 온도 범위는 10∼60℃ 이었으며, 최적 생육온도는 35∼40℃ 이었다. 그리고 최적생육 pH는 6.5 부근이었으나 pH6.0 이하나 pH8.0 이상에서는 생육이 저하하였다. SW-251균주는 호기성의 간균 (0.8∼1.3x1.8∼2.5㎛)으로 운동성이 있으며, 그람양성 반응을 나타냈다. 10% 이하의 NaCl에 내성을 갖고있으며, starch 및 casein을 빠르게 분해하는 세균으로 Bacillus속의 특성을 갖고 있었다. Among 348 strains isolated from fermented soy foods, SW-251 strain has a potent protease and amylase activities on SM medium(LB agar plate supplemented with 2% skim milk), and CM medium(LB agar plate supplemented with 2% corm starch0, respectively. The optimal temperature and growth temperature range for cell growth were 35∼40℃ and 10∼60℃, respectively. The optimal pH was 6.5 and pH range of its growth was 6.0 and 8.0. The isolate was an aerobic bacterium (rod type, 0.8∼1.3 x 1.8∼2.5㎛), then there was its mobility, Gram staining and hydrolysis of starch and casein were positive reaction. Salt tolerance was below 10% NaCl. The strain was identified as a Bacillus sp. SW-251 with respect to morphological, cultural and physiological characteristics.

        We made the tunable unidirectional Er-doped fiber(EDF) ring laser by using new fiber Fabry-Perot(FP) filter. Filter has been built with simple construction, with does not require any additional aligning and beam-confining components for the reduction of the diffraction. Fiber FP tunable filter whose free spectral range and finess is 60 nm and 500 respectively. Wavelength tunable range over 60 nm(1520-1580nm) has been achieved.

        Due to advances in information technology, it becomes common to capture and manage construction site photos by using digital cameras. However, there has been lack of developments to store and manage digital photos efficiently. This research developed an information framework to manage and share construction information based on 5W1H in order to derive construction context, which includes technologies, lessons-learned, and knowledge, from construction photos. It is expected that the results of this research, an information framework, could help more effective classification management, search and derivation of context in a construction project.

      • Group B Streptococci 감염의 임상양상과 Pulsed-Field Gel Electrophoresis를 이용한 유전자형 분석

        Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PPGE) has been employed as a tool to study correlation between apparent clinical features and genotyping of Group B Streptococci (GBS) infection. The result of serotyping among 45 isolates showed that serotype la, lb, Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ, NT (nontypeable) were 15.5%, 11.1%, 35.5%, 2.22%, 20%, 15.5%, respectively. The result of serotyping for infection group of 26 isolates showed that serotype la, lb, Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ, NT were 11.5%, 15.4%, 34.6%, 3.8%, 11.5%, 23%, respectively. The result of serotyping for carrier group of 19 isolates showed that serotype la, lb, Ⅲ, Ⅴ, NT were 21%, 5.3%, 36.8%, 31.6%, 5.3%, respectively. Thus, the predominant serotypes of the infection groups were serotype lb and Ⅲ, and those of the carrier groups serotype Ⅲ and Ⅴ. All isolates were characterized by PFGE analysis. Isolates were assigned to three major phylogenetic Divisions (Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ) and subsequently to 16 PFGE groups (A[A1, A2, A3], B[B1, B2, B3], C, D[D1. D2, D3, D4, D5, D6], E[E1, E2], F). Seventy five percentages of Division Ⅰ belonged to the infection group. Seventy eight percentages Division Ⅱ of belonged to the carrier group. One hundred percentages of Division Ⅲ belonged to the infection group. The study on the correlation between genotype and serotype among the isolates showed that serotype Ⅲ was predominant in A1 group (5 of 5 isolates), D1 group (4 of 5 isolates), and F group (2 of 2 isolates). In addition, serotype Ⅴ was the sole serotype in C and D5 group. Those results indicated that serotyping and PFGE group analysis were highly correlated.

      • Topography of the Submental Artery That Should Be Considered in Bleeding During Dentoalveolar Surgery

        ABSTRACT: The purpose of the present study was to provide precise data regarding the branching pattern of the submental artery, which should be considered in occasions of bleeding during various dentoalveolar surgical procedures of the mandible, such as implant surgeries, tori removal, and iatrogenic injuries.Twenty-six embalmed adult hemifaces from Korean cadavers were used in this study. The vertical distance, horizontal distance, and diameter of the submental artery were measured from the site of the first premolar to the third molar. In cases where there was penetration of the mylohyoid muscle by the main branches of the submental artery, the same items were measured at that point.The vertical distance between the submental artery and the inferior border of the mandible decreased toward the premolar, whereas the horizontal distance from the lingual plate of the mandible increased gradually as it traveled in the anterior direction. The diameter of the artery narrowed slightly toward the premolar. The main branches of the submental artery perforated the mylohyoid muscle in 14 (54%) of the 26 specimens.As a result of this study, the submental artery is located higher from the inferior border and closer to the lingual plate of the mandible in the region of the molar than that of the premolar. Therefore, clinicians should be more careful of bleeding when performing surgery in the molar region compared with the premolar region. Where the mylohyoid muscle is perforated by the main branches of the submental artery, its point of insertion can be observed in diverse locations.

        Interim Guidelines on Antiviral Therapy for COVID-19

        Since the first case was reported in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China on December 12, 2019, Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread widely to other countries since January 2020. As of April 16, 2020, 10635 confirmed cases have been reported, with 230 deaths in Korea. COVID-19 patients may be asymptomatic or show various clinical manifestations, including acute symptoms such as fever, fatigue, sore throat; pneumonia presenting as acute respiratory distress syndrome; and multiple organ failure. As COVID-19 has such varied clinical manifestations and case fatality rates, no standard antiviral therapy regimen has been established other than supportive therapy. In the present guideline, we aim to introduce potentially helpful antiviral and other drug therapies based on in vivo and in vitro research and clinical experiences from many countries.

        The Multifaceted Clinical Characteristics of Congenital Cytomegalovirus Infection: From Pregnancy to Long-Term Outcomes

        Background: The aim of this study was to capture multifaceted clinical characteristics of congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection from diagnosis to treatment using a multidisciplinary approach including obstetrics, pediatrics, pathology, and otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Methods: This is a retrospective study including 30 consecutive cases of congenital CMV infection that were diagnosed at a single tertiary hospital located in Seoul, Korea from January 2009 to December 2020. Congenital CMV infection was defined as a positive result by polymerase chain reaction from urine, saliva or cerebrospinal fluid or positive CMV IgM from neonatal blood sampled within 3 weeks after birth. All cases were analyzed with respect to whole clinical characteristics from diagnosis to treatment of congenital CMV by a multidisciplinary approach including prenatal sonographic findings, maternal immune status regarding CMV infection, detailed placental pathology, neonatal clinical manifestation, auditory brainstem response test, and antiviral treatment (ganciclovir or valganciclovir). Long-term outcomes including developmental delay and hearing loss were also investigated. Results: The total number of births during the study period in our institution was 19,385, with the prevalence of congenital infection estimated to be 0.15%. Among 30 cases of congenital CMV, the median gestational age at delivery was 32.2 weeks [range, 22.6–40.0] and 66.7% of these infants were delivered preterm at less than 37 weeks. Suspected fetal growth restriction was the most common prenatal ultrasound finding (50%) followed by ventriculomegaly (17.9%) and abnormal placenta (17.9%), defined as thick placenta with calcification. No abnormal findings on ultrasound examination were observed in one-third of births. Maternal CMV serology tests were conducted in only 8 cases, and one case each of positive and equivocal IgM were found. The most common placental pathologic findings were chronic villitis (66.7%) and calcification (63.0%), whereas viral inclusions were identified in only 22.2%. The most common neonatal manifestations were jaundice (58.6%) followed by elevation of aspartate aminotransferase (55.2%) and thrombocytopenia (51.7%). After excluding cases for which long-term outcomes were unavailable due to death (n = 4) or subsequent follow up loss (n = 3), developmental delay was confirmed in 43.5% of infants (10/23), and hearing loss was confirmed in 42.9% (9/21) during the follow-up period. In our cohort, 56.7% (17/30) of neonates were treated for congenital CMV with ganciclovir or valganciclovir. Conclusion: Our data show that prenatal findings including maternal serologic tests and ultrasound have limited ability to detect congenital CMV in Korea. Given that CMV is associated with high rates of developmental delay and hearing loss in infants, there is an urgent need to develop specific strategies for the definite diagnosis of congenital CMV infection during the perinatal period by a multidisciplinary approach to decrease the risks of neurologic impairment and hearing loss through early antiviral treatment.

        A Prospective, Long-Term Follow-Up Study of 1,444 nm Nd:YAG Laser: A New Modality for Treating Axillary Bromhidrosis

        Background: Surgery for bromhidrosis has a high risk of complications such as hematoma and necrosis. New nonsurgical methods may reduce the burden on surgery and the risks for the patient. Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy and side-effects of the 1,444 nm Nd:YAG interstitial laser for treating axillary bromhidrosis. Methods: Eighteen bromhidrosis patients were treated with a 1,444 nm Nd:YAG laser at Korea University Ansan Hospital. The post-treatment follow-up was 6 months. After the procedure, we confirmed apocrine gland destruction through histopathological examination. At each follow-up, we measured the severity of the remaining odor, post- operative pain, degree of mobility restriction, and overall satisfaction. Results: After 180 days of follow-up, malodor elimination was good in 20 axillae, fair in 12 axillae, and poor in four axillae. At the end point of the study, 14 patients were totally satisfied with the laser treatment, three patients were partially satisfied, and one patient was disatisfied. Pain and limitation of mobility were significantly reduced within 1 week post-operatively, and were almost resolved within 4 weeks post-operatively. A histopathological examination revealed decreased density and significant alterations to the apocrine glands. Conclusion: Subdermal coagulation treatment with a 1,444 nm Nd:YAG interstitial laser may be a less Ann Dermatol invasive and effective therapy for axillary bromhidrosis.
