      • Concrete-steel bond-slip behavior of recycled concrete: Experimental investigation

        Rui Ren,Liangjie Qi,Jian-yang Xue,Xin Zhang,Hui Ma,Xiguang Liu,Togay Ozbakkaloglu 국제구조공학회 2021 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.38 No.3

In order to study the interfacial bond-slip behavior of steel reinforced recycled concrete (SRRC) under cyclic loading, thirteen specimens were designed and tested under cyclic loading and one under monotonic loading. The test results indicated that the average bond strength of SRRC decreased with the increasing replacement ratio of recycled concrete, whereas the bond strength increased with an increase in the concrete cover thickness, the volumetric stirrup ratio, and the strength of recycled concrete. The ultimate bond strength of the cyclically-loaded specimen was significantly (41%) lower than that of the companion monotonically-loaded specimen. The cyclic phenomena also showed that SRRC specimens went through the non-slip phase, initial slip phase, failure phase, bond strength degradation phase and residual phase, with all specimens exhibiting basically the same shape of the bond-slip curve. Additionally, the paper presents the equations that were developed to calculate the characteristic bond strength of SRRC, which were verified based on experimental results.

Simultaneous determination and difference evaluation of 14 ginsenosides in Panax ginseng roots cultivated in different areas and ages by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometer in the multiple reaction-monitoring mode combined with multivariate statistical analysis

        Yang Xiu,Xue Li,Xiuli Sun,Dan Xiao,Rui Miao,Huanxi Zhao,Shuying Liu 고려인삼학회 2019 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.43 No.4

Background: Ginsenosides are not only the principal bioactive components but also the important indexes to the quality assessment of Panax ginseng Meyer. Their contents in cultivated ginseng vary with the growth environment and age. The present study aimed at evaluating the significant difference between 36 cultivated ginseng of different cultivation areas and ages based on the simultaneously determined contents of 14 ginsenosides. Methods: A high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (MS) method was developed and used in the multiple reaction-monitoring (MRM) mode (HPLC-MRM/MS) for the quantitative analysis of ginsenosides. Multivariate statistical analysis, such as principal component analysis and partial least squares-discriminant analysis, was applied to discriminate ginseng samples of various cultivation areas and ages and to discover the differentially accumulated ginsenoside markers. Results: The developed HPLC-MRM/MS method was validated to be precise, accurate, stable, sensitive, and repeatable for the simultaneous determination of 14 ginsenosides. It was found that the 3- and 5-yrold ginseng samples were differentiated distinctly by all means of multivariate statistical analysis, whereas the 4-yr-old samples exhibited similarity to either 3- or 5-yr-old samples in the contents of ginsenosides. Among the 14 detected ginsenosides, Rg1, Rb1, Rb2, Rc, 20(S)-Rf, 20(S)-Rh1, and Rb3 were identified as potential markers for the differentiation of cultivation ages. In addition, the 5-yr-old samples were able to be classified in cultivation area based on the contents of ginsenosides, whereas the 3- and 4-yr-old samples showed little differences in cultivation area. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the HPLC-MRM/MS method combined with multivariate statistical analysis provides deep insight into the accumulation characteristics of ginsenosides and could be used to differentiate ginseng that are cultivated in different areas and ages.

        Kai Yang,Cheng FangWang,Chun Xue You,Zhu Feng Geng,Rui Qi Sun,Shan Shan Guo,Shu Shan Du,Zhi Long Liu,Zhi Wei Deng 한국응용곤충학회 2014 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.17 No.3

During our screening program for agrochemicals from Chinese medicinal herbs and wild plants, the essential oilof Litsea cubeba fruits was found to possess strong contact toxicity against the cigarette beetle Lasiodermaserricorne adults and the booklouse Liposcelis bostrychophila, with LD50 values of 27.33 μg/adult and71.56 μg/cm2, respectively, and also showed strong fumigant toxicity against the two stored product insectswith LC50 values of 22.97 and 0.73 mg/L, respectively. The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation wasinvestigated by GC MS. The main components of the essential oil were identified to be E-citral (geranial)(27.49%), Z-citral (neral) (23.57%) and D-limonene (18.82%) followed by β-thujene (3.34%), β-pinene (2.85%), α-pinene (2.57%), 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one (2.40%) and linalool (2.36%). Citral (Z/E-citral), D-limonene, β-pinene,α-pinene and linalool were separated and purified by silica gel column chromatography and preparative thinlayer chromatography, and further identified by means of physicochemical and spectrometric analysis. Citral andlinalool showed strong contact toxicity against L. serricorne and L. bostrychophila (LD50 = 11.76, 12.74 μg/adultand 20.15, 99.97 μg/cm2, respectively) and fumigant toxicity against L. serricorne and L. bostrychophila (16.54,18.04 mg/L air and 0.14, 0.71 mg/L air, respectively). Otherwise, citral, D-limonene and linalool were strongly repellentagainst the cigarette beetle L. serricorne as the essential oil whereas β-pinene and α-pinene exhibited weakerrepellency against the cigarette beetle compared with the positive control, DEET. Moreover, except α-pinene andlinalool, the other three compounds as well as the essential oil exhibited comparable repellency against thebooklouse relative to DEET.

2D-MELPP: A two dimensional matrix exponential based extension of locality preserving projections for dimensional reduction

Zixun Xiong,Minghua Wan,Rui Xue,Guowei Yang 한국인터넷정보학회 2022 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.16 No.9

Two dimensional locality preserving projections (2D-LPP) is an improved algorithm of 2D image to solve the small sample size (SSS) problems which locality preserving projections (LPP) meets. It’s able to find the low dimension manifold mapping that not only preserves local information but also detects manifold embedded in original data spaces. However, 2D-LPP is simple and elegant. So, inspired by the comparison experiments between two dimensional linear discriminant analysis (2D-LDA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) which indicated that matrix based methods don’t always perform better even when training samples are limited, we surmise 2D-LPP may meet the same limitation as 2D-LDA and propose a novel matrix exponential method to enhance the performance of 2D-LPP. 2D-MELPP is equivalent to employing distance diffusion mapping to transform original images into a new space, and margins between labels are broadened, which is beneficial for solving classification problems. Nonetheless, the computational time complexity of 2D-MELPP is extremely high. In this paper, we replace some of matrix multiplications with multiple multiplications to save the memory cost and provide an efficient way for solving 2D-MELPP. We test it on public databases: random 3D data set, ORL, AR face database and Polyu Palmprint database and compare it with other 2D methods like 2D-LDA, 2D-LPP and 1D methods like LPP and exponential locality preserving projections (ELPP), finding it outperforms than others in recognition accuracy. We also compare different dimensions of projection vector and record the cost time on the ORL, AR face database and Polyu Palmprint database. The experiment results above proves that our advanced algorithm has a better performance on 3 independent public databases.

Sub Oriented Histograms of Local Binary Patterns for Smoke Detection and Texture Classification

( Feiniu Yuan ),( Jinting Shi ),( Xue Xia ),( Yong Yang ),( Yuming Fang ),( Rui Wang ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2016 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.10 No.4

Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and its variants have powerful discriminative capabilities but most of them just consider each LBP code independently. In this paper, we propose sub oriented histograms of LBP for smoke detection and image classification. We first extract LBP codes from an image, compute the gradient of LBP codes, and then calculate sub oriented histograms to capture spatial relations of LBP codes. Since an LBP code is just a label without any numerical meaning, we use Hamming distance to estimate the gradient of LBP codes instead of Euclidean distance. We propose to use two coordinates systems to compute two orientations, which are quantized into discrete bins. For each pair of the two discrete orientations, we generate a sub LBP code map from the original LBP code map, and compute sub oriented histograms for all sub LBP code maps. Finally, all the sub oriented histograms are concatenated together to form a robust feature vector, which is input into SVM for training and classifying. Experiments show that our approach not only has better performance than existing methods in smoke detection, but also has good performance in texture classification.

      • Meta-analysis of the Association Between GSTM1 and GSTT1 Gene Polymorphisms and Cervical Cancer

Zhang, Zhen-Yong,Jin, Xue-Ying,Wu, Rong,Wu, Li-Na,Xing, Rui,Yang, Shu-Juan,Xie, Yao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.3

Aim: We conducted a meta-analysis to analyze the influence of GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene polymorphisms on cervical cancer risk, and explore gene-environment interactions. Methods: Identification of relevant studies was carried out through a search of Medline and the EMbase up to Oct. 2011. All case-control studies that investigated the association between GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene polymorphisms and risk of cervical cancer were included. The pooled odds ratio (OR) was used for analyses of results and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated. Results: A total of 21 case-control studies were included in the meta-analysis of GSTM1 (2,378 cases and 2,639 controls) and GSTT1 (1,229 cases and 1,223 controls) genotypes. The overall results showed that the GSTM1 null was related to an increased risk of cervical cancer (OR=1.50, 95% CI=1.21-1.85). Subgroup analysis were performed based on smoking and ethnicity. Our results showed that smokers with null GSTM1 genotype had a moderate increased risk of cervical cancer (OR=1.85, 95% CI=1.07-3.20). For the ethnicity stratification, moderate significantly increased risk of null GSTM1 genotype was found in Chinese (OR=2.12, 95% CI=1.43-3.15) and Indian populations (OR=2.07, 95% CI=1.49-2.88), but no increased risk was noted in others. Conclusion: This meta-analysis provided strong evidence that the GSTM1 genotype is associated with the development of cervical cancer, especially in smokers, and Chinese and Indian populations. However, no association was found for GSTT1 null genotype carriers.

Original Article: Food Science/Microbiology : Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activities of Camellia Oleifera Seed Oils

( Qing Fen Zhou ),( Xue Jing Jia ),( Qian Qian Li ),( Rui Wu Yang ),( Li Zhang ),( Yong Hong Zhou ),( Chun Bang Ding ) 한국응용생명화학회(구 한국농화학회) 2014 Journal of Applied Biological Chemistry (J. Appl. Vol.57 No.2

The antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Camellia oleifera seed oil were studied. Four kinds of seed oil samples were prepared, crude oil and refined oil, extracted by cold pressing method (CPC, CPR), and organic solvent extraction (OSC, OSR). Antioxidant activity analysis was measured in 2,2-azinobis (3- ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)-diammonium salt, ferric reducing Ability of Plasma, and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl assays. Besides, the percentage of inhibition of red blood cells hemolysis induced by 2,2´-azobis(2-amidnopropane) dihydrochlorid, the lag time of LDL conjugated dienes formation in vitro, and the inhibitors of loss in tryptophan fluorescence were all used to estimate the antioxidant activity of the samples. The total phenolic contents (TPC) were detemined by Folin-Ciocalteu method. The TPC of the C. oleifera seed oils can be arranged in descending order: CPC (1.9172 μg/mL) > OSC (1.5218 μg/mL) > CPR (1.0611 μg/mL) > OSR (0.6782 μg/mL). And the oils were investigated for activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Aspergillus niger. The results showed the antioxidant activity of crude oil by cold pressing method was stronger than others, and all oils did inhibit activity of the top three bacteria expert A. niger. The further significance of the study contributes to measure the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of the potential health benefits by the different methods of preparation and the oil of C. oleifera seeds acting as free radical scavenger, pharmaceuticals and preservatives may offer some information in medicine and cosmetic not just in food field.

Impact of fatty liver on long-term outcomes in chronic hepatitis B: a systematic review and matched analysis of individual patient data meta-analysis

        Yu Jun Wong,Vy H. Nguyen,Hwai-I Yang,Jie Li,Michael Huan Le,Wan-Jung Wu,Nicole Xinrong Han,Khi Yung Fong,Elizabeth Chen,Connie Wong,Fajuan Rui,Xiaoming Xu,Qi Xue,Xin Yu Hu,Wei Qiang Leow,George Boon-B 대한간학회 2023 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.29 No.3

Background/Aims: Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and fatty liver (FL) often co-exist, but natural history data of this dual condition (CHB-FL) are sparse. Via a systematic review, conventional meta-analysis (MA) and individual patient-level data MA (IPDMA), we compared liver-related outcomes and mortality between CHB-FL and CHB-no FL patients. Methods: We searched 4 databases from inception to December 2021 and pooled study-level estimates using a random- effects model for conventional MA. For IPDMA, we evaluated outcomes after balancing the two study groups with inverse probability treatment weighting (IPTW) on age, sex, cirrhosis, diabetes, ALT, HBeAg, HBV DNA, and antiviral treatment. Results: We screened 2,157 articles and included 19 eligible studies (17,955 patients: 11,908 CHB-no FL; 6,047 CHB-FL) in conventional MA, which found severe heterogeneity (I2=88–95%) and no significant differences in HCC, cirrhosis, mortality, or HBsAg seroclearance incidence (P=0.27–0.93). IPDMA included 13,262 patients: 8,625 CHB-no FL and 4,637 CHB-FL patients who differed in several characteristics. The IPTW cohort included 6,955 CHB-no FL and 3,346 CHB-FL well-matched patients. CHB-FL patients (vs. CHB-no FL) had significantly lower HCC, cirrhosis, mortality and higher HBsAg seroclearance incidence (all P≤0.002), with consistent results in subgroups. CHB-FL diagnosed by liver biopsy had a higher 10-year cumulative HCC incidence than CHB-FL diagnosed with non-invasive methods (63.6% vs. 4.3%, P<0.0001). Conclusions: IPDMA data with well-matched CHB patient groups showed that FL (vs. no FL) was associated with significantly lower HCC, cirrhosis, and mortality risk and higher HBsAg seroclearance probability.
