<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Copper nanoparticles with narrow size distribution of 5–7nm were synthesized by using electron beam irradiation. The copper nanoparticles were stable in ambient air for two months. TGA showed that the copper nanoparticles prepared by using electron beam irradiation have the higher wt% of pure copper metal compared with the one prepared by chemical reduction using hydrazine hydrate(N<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB>·<I>x</I>H<SUB>2</SUB>O). The conductive copper paste with copper nanoparticles prepared by electron beam irradiation showed higher conductivity than the paste with copper nanoparticles prepared by chemical reduction with N<SUB>2</SUB>H<SUB>4</SUB> due to small size, less amount of surfactants on the surface and higher stability against the oxidation in ambient condition. The highest conductivity of copper paste was determined as 170Scm<SUP>−1</SUP> at 90wt% of copper nanoparticles in the paste.</P> <P><B>Research highlights</B></P><P>► Copper nanoparticles were synthesized by electron beam irradiation and chemical reduction. ► The copper nanoparticles synthesized by electron beam irradiation have narrower size distribution of 5–7nm and higher wt% of pure copper metal compared with the one synthesized by chemical reduction. ► Conductive pastes prepared by copper nanoparticles synthesized by electron beam irradiation show higher conductivity.</P>

Two methods for the chiral purity determination of bevantolol were developed, namely capillary electrophoresis (CE) using carboxymethyl-β-cyclodextrin (CM-β-CD) as a chiral selector and high-perfomance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a chiral stationary phase. In the HPLC method, the separation of bevantolol enantiomers was performed on a Chiralpak AD-H column by isocratic elution with n-hexane-ethanol-diethylamine (10:90:0.1, v/v/v) as mobile phase. In the CE method, bevantolol enantiomers were separated on an uncoated fused silica capillary with 50 mM amonium phosphate dibasic adjusted to a pH 6.5 with phosphoric acid containing 15 mM CM-β-CD as running buffer. Validation data such as linearity, recovery, detection limit, and precision of the two methods are presented. The detection limits of S-(-)- bevantolol were 0.1% and 0.05% for CE and HPLC method, respectively and R-(+)-bevantolol were 0.15% and 0.05% for CE and HPLC method, respectively. There was generally good agreement between the HPLC and CE results.

What Influences Decision on Seasoned Equity Offerings of Listed Vietnamese Companies?

This paper investigates the determinants on decision to conduct seasoned equity offerings (SEOs) of listed companies on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange in Vietnam. Seasoned equity offerings (SEOs) are defined as the issue of more stocks by a firm to raise more capital after a primary issue. Using panel data collected from audited financial statements of 99 listed companies on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange during 2014-2018, the study employs a logit regression model by fixed effects method to examine factors that affect the decision to implement seasoned equity offerings of those companies. The findings of this study show that profit, revenue growth and company's size have a positively significant impact on the decision, while dividend pay-out ratio negatively significantly influences the equity issuing decision. Furthermore, these results are robust after controlling for the forms of equity offerings, i.e. bonus stocks, stock dividends and rights to buy shares. These findings are consistent with economic theories such as agency theory, pecking order theory, and growth opportunity theory, and also could be explained by the real situations of the Vietnamese stock exchange. This study has important implications for corporate managers, policy makers and investors.

A method was developed and fully validated for the determination of bevantolol, an adrenergicreceptor blocker, in human plasma. Bevantolol and betaxolol as internal standard (I.S) were extracted from 1mL of human plasma by solid phase extraction technique using Sep-pak silica cartridge. Chromatographic separation was accomplished under isocratic conditions using a reverse-phase C8 analytical column and mixture of dibasic ammonium phosphate (pH 5.7; 50mM)-acetonitrile (75:25, v/v) as mobile phase, with a detection wavelength at 220 nm. The method was proved to be specific by testing six different human plasma sources. Linearity was established for the concentration ranges of 40-1600 ng/mL with correlation coefficent of 0.9995. The lower limit of quantification 40 ng/mL with precision of 10.9% as C.V%.
The first years of liver transplantation: experiences at a single center

Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the first stages of progress in liver transplantation (LT) at a single center in Vietnam. Methods: This study analyzed data from patients and donors who participated in the LT program between August 2018 and December 2021 at University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City. Study measures included any difficulties encountered, as well as the post- LT outcomes for living donor LT (LDLT) and deceased donor LT (DDLT). The chi-square test and Kaplan Meier survival analysis were used to test the factors that influenced the outcomes. Results: A total of 18 adult recipients with LT (LDLT, n=16; DDLT, n=2) were included (mean age, 55.2±2.6 years; male, 88.9%). The most common post-LT complications were middle hepatic venous stenosis (20%) and graft rejection (22.2%). These compli- cations were observed in LDLT patients. For DDLT, graft rejection (50%) was the only complication recorded. The survival rates for recipients at 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year were 100%, 88.9%, and 88.9%, respectively. The LDs had their right livers without the middle hepatic veins harvested, and biliary leakage (6.25%) was the only complica- tion observed. There were no deaths among recipients or LDs during the operations or hospital stays. Conclusions: This study provides key details about the process of LT, and these positive outcomes support LT as an important therapy for end-stage liver disease and early he- patocellular carcinomas.

Chemical profiles and biological activities of essential oil of Citrus hystrix DC. peels

Essential oil (EO) was extracted from the peel of Citrus hystrix DC. originating from Tinh Bien, An Giang province (Vietnam), using steam distillation. The study aimed to determine some physicochemical properties of Citrus hystrix peel EO (ChpEO), including the acid value (AV), saponification value (SV), ester value (EV), density, specific gravity, and freezing point. The chemical composition was also analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Compounds like β-pinene (30.19%), D-limonene (22.15%), and sabinene (21.37%), with antioxidant and antibacterial properties, had a relatively high content. The EO was also capable of inhibiting the growth of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), Salmonella typhimurium (ATCC 13311), and Bacillus cereus (ATCC 11778) specifically.
Preparation of conducting silver paste with Ag nanoparticles prepared by e-beam irradiation

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Conducting silver paste was prepared by using Ag nanoparticles which were synthesized by e-beam irradiation method (from KAERI); its conductivity was comparatively determined with Ag nanoparticles which were prepared by thermolysis method (commercial). The silver nanoparticles with the diameter of approximately 150nm size prepared by e-beam irradiation were mixed with glass frit and sintered for 1h at 500°C. It is presumably concluded that the wt% of silver nanoparticle, size distribution and homogenous dispersibility of Ag nanoparticles in the pastes are the critical factors for the high conductivity of the paste. Among the various wt% of silver nanoparticle in the conducting silver pastes, silver paste with 90wt% of silver nanoparticle has the highest conductivity as 1.6×10<SUP>4</SUP>Scm<SUP>−1</SUP>. This conductivity value is 1.6 times higher than the Ag pastes which were prepared with silver nanoparticles obtained by thermolysis method.</P>
