        오행화침법(五行和鍼法)의 이론적 고찰 및 운용

        Objectives: The object of this study is to report on the theory of Ohaeng-Hwa Acupuncture Therapy. Methods: The theory of Ohaeng-Hwa Acupuncture Therapy(OHAT; 五行和針法) is a part of the Five Elements Theory unique to Korea. This research Classic of Difficulty Issues-Nan Jing review Ohaeng-Hwa Acupuncture Therapy. Results: OHAT, created and developed by Jae-hoon Song, integrates the victor-vanquished as well as the son-mother relationship of the Five Elements of breakdown and restoration of balance between yin and yang. And also, it provides resources and data on The seventy fifth Nan(75難), The sixty ninth Nan(69難) of Classic of Difficulty Issues-Nan Jin 75, 69. OHAT establishes objectiveness and accuracy of diagnosis based upon the traditional method and procedure of pulse taking. In OHAT, a person`s state of illness is diagnosed by applying the comparative examination of the palpitation of the pulse. It is the fact that the pulse varies according to the state, and that OHAT treatment has proven the positive results by using the victor-vanquished relationship on The Nan Jin 75. On the basis of this, it is necessary to add the sixty ninth Nan(69難), to research the theory of the generation of the Five Element. Conclusions: Ohaeng-Hwa Acupuncture is very effective in treating the wide range of illness, and thus it has gained an increasing attention of many scholars and practitioners in the field of traditional Korean oriental medicine. However, it is the first theoretical attempt to the clinical research and scientific methodology of Ohaeng(Five) Ohaeng-Hwa Acupuncture, and more active Ohaeng-Hwa Acupuncture R&D is being conducted nationwide.

        Effect of Highly Pressurized Hydrogen Gas Charging on the Hydrogen Embrittlement of API X70 Steel

        During the use of API X70 steel as a pipeline structural material for the transportation of natural gas,hydrogen embrittlement can occur due to the hydrogen contained in natural gas. The aim of this study is toinvestigate the effects of the hydrogen content under high-pressure hydrogen gas conditions on the hydrogenembrittlement of air-cooled API X70 steel. The air-cooled API X70 steel was manufactured by hot rollingand was then air-cooled to room temperature. Tensile test specimens were held for 0 h, 1000 h, and 2000 hwithin a pressure vessel filled with 100% hydrogen gas at a gas pressure of 10 MPa, with the tensile teststhen performed at room temperature. The microstructure of the API X70 steel consists of coarse polygonalferrite, coarse pearlite, and fine acicular ferrite. The yield and tensile strength increased and elongationdecreased considerably after a holding time of 2000 h compared to those of 0 h and 1000 h within the pressurevessel. The morphology of the fracture surface changed from ductile to brittle upon hydrogen gas charging. Secondary cracks were observed in both of the hydrogen-gas-charged specimens. No external cracks wereformed on the surface of the tensile-tested specimen with a 0 h holding time; however, many external crackswere observed on the specimen surface subjected to hydrogen gas charging.

        Background: Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) is a transcriptional factor that regulates several aspects of stem cell biology, including proliferation, differentiation, and survival. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) show efficacy in wound healing by increasing cell proliferation. Objectives: However, there is a lack of information on the biological pathway with HIF-1αthat can explain the effects of AgNPs on the proliferation of human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs). Methods: To evaluate the role of HIF-1α in AgNPs-treated hMSCs, we investigated the cell proliferation and the expression of IL-8 in hMSCs treated with AgNPs. In addition, we observed the level of cell proliferation and the expression of IL-8 in hSMCs treated with siRNA specific to HIF-1α. Results: AgNPs increased the expression of HIF-1α in hMSCs. IL-8 expression and cell proliferation were significantly increased in the hMSCs treated with AgNPs (1 μg, 2.5 μg, 5 μg, and 7.5 μg) compared with the untreated hMSCs. Moreover, the cell proliferation and expression of IL-8 in the AgNPs-treated hMSCs was significantly reduced after HIF-1α siRNA treatment. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that AgNPs-induced hMSCs proliferation may be associated with the upregulation of IL-8 expression mediated by HIF-1α.

      • Development and structure of a novel barrier membrane composed of drug-loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) particles for guided bone regeneration.

        <P>A novel barrier membrane composed of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) particles loaded with dexamethasone (DEX) as a bioactive molecule was produced via a modified nanoprecipitation method without any mixing. The particle membranes had a bilayer structure: one side was smooth and had a compact surface that was connected to larger particles, while the opposite side was rough, porous and connected to smaller particles. Additionally, a cross-section of the particle membrane had a porous structure with nano and micro sized irregular pores. Process optimization revealed that NaCl concentration in the water phase, with acetone as solvent and water as a non-solvent, played critical roles in determining the properties of the particle membranes, such as DEX encapsulation efficiency, thickness and surface morphologies of the particle membranes. A novel barrier membrane containing DEX using polymer particle drug capture technology has been successfully developed.</P>

        The solid-state fermentation of <i>Artemisia capillaris</i> leaves with <i>Ganoderma lucidum</i> enhances the anti-inflammatory effects in a model of atopic dermatitis

        <P><I>Artemisia capillaris</I>, which belongs to the Asteraceae family and the genus <I>Artemisia</I>, has been reported to exert inhibitory effects on diabetes, cancer and inflammation. In this study, in order to enhance the bioactivity potential of the leaves of <I>Artemisia</I> by <I>Ganoderma lucidum</I> mycelium, we prepared aqueous samples of <I>Artemisia capillaris</I> (<I>Ac</I>) leaves, <I>Ganoderma lucidum (Gl</I>) and aqueous fractions produced by the solid fermentation of <I>Ganoderma lucidum</I> on <I>Artemisia capillaris</I> leaves (<I>afAc/Gl</I>). Thereafter, we evaluated whether these samples have potential to attenuate inflammation-related symptoms in an amimal model of 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB)-induced atopic dermatitis. We found that <I>afAc/Gl</I> exhibited enhanced anti-inflamamatory activity following the solid fermentation process when compared with <I>Ac</I> or <I>Gl</I> on ear thickness, ear epidermal thickness and eosinophil infiltration in the skin tissues. The expression of nitric oxide (NO) synthases (NOSs) was measured by immunohistochemical staining. The results revealed that <I>afAc/Gl</I> decreased endothelial NOS and inducible NOS expression compared with the DNFB group, while neuronal NOS expression was not altered. By comparing NO production, we found that as opposed to <I>Ac, afAc/Gl</I> has potential to inhibit atopic dermatitis-related symptoms during the inflammatory event. As regards matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) expression patterns, <I>afAc/Gl</I> exerted potent inhibitory activity on the mRNA expression of MMP-2, -7, -9, -12, -14 and -19. Taken together, these results suggest that the solid state fermentation of <I>Ac</I> by <I>Gl</I> is an effective strategy to obtaining useful ingredients which are converted into valuable compounds during an atopic inflammatory insult.</P>

      • Quadrivalent human papilloma virus vaccine for the treatment of multiple warts: a retrospective analysis of 30 patients

        Background: Various therapeutic modalities have been implemented for wart treatment. Recently, resistant warts treated using quadrivalent human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine have been reported, although original articles on the efficacy of quadrivalent HPV vaccine on viral warts are rare. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of quadrivalent HPV vaccine in the treatment of multiple warts Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 30 patients with multiple warts who had been treated with quadrivalent HPV vaccine in Pusan National University Hospital from January 2014 to November 2016. All patients received 3 doses of quadrivalent HPV vaccine at baseline, 2 and 6 months. Patient demographics and clinical features were reviewed. Therapeutic response and adverse reactions following vaccination were assessed. Results: Regarding therapeutic response, 14 patients (46.67%) showed “Complete response”, 5 (16.67%) showed “Partial response”, and 11 (36.67%) showed “No response”. There were no statistically significant differences in sex, age, disease duration, and lesion number and location between the three groups divided by treatment response. No severe adverse events were noted. Conclusion: The advantage of quadrivalent HPV vaccine in the treatment of multiple warts is that it is more convenient and less painful. HPV vaccine might be a good alternative to conventional destructive methods for certain cases such as those including multiple warts, dangerous lesion locations, and uncooperative patients.

        Efficient Derivation and Long Term Maintenance of Pluripotent Porcine Embryonic Stem-like Cells

        Porcine embryonic stem (ES) cells have a great potential as tools for transgenic animal production and studies of regulation of differentiation genes. Although several studies showed successful derivation of porcine ES-like cells, these cells were not maintained long-term in culture. Therefore, this study was conducted to establish porcine pluripotent ES-like cells using in vivo fertilized embryos and to maintain these cells in long term culture. Porcine ES-like cells from in vivo embryos obtained by immunosurgery or whole explant culture were successfully cultured for over 56 passages. Morphology of porcine ES-like cells was flat-shaped with a monolayer type colony. These cells stained for alkaline phosphatase throughout the culture. Furthermore, porcine ES-like cells reacted with antibodies against Oct-4, SSEA-1, SSEA-4, Tra-1-60, and Tra-1-81, which are typical markers of undifferentiated stem cells. To characterize the ability of porcine ES-like cells to differentiate into three germ layers, embryoid body formation was induced. After plating of these cells, porcine ES-like cells were spontaneously differentiated into various cell types of all three germ layers. In addition, porcine ES-like cells were successfully derived from IVF blastocysts in media containing human recombinant basic fibroblast growth factor.

        Systematic Electronic Control in Ambipolar Compounds Optimizes Their Photoluminescence Properties: Synthesis, Characterization, and Device Fabrication of Four-Coordinate Boron Compounds Containing an N,O-Chelating Oxazolylphenolate Ligand

        <P>A series of four-coordinate boron compounds of the type N,O-(OPh<SUP>OxZ</SUP>ArX)BPh<SUB>2</SUB> or N,O-(OPh<SUP>OxZ</SUP>NPh<SUB>2</SUB>)BPh<SUB>2</SUB> (5a–g) has been prepared by treating triphenylboron (TPB) with2-(4,4-dimethyl-4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-yl)-4-X-arylphenols(HOPh<SUP>OxZ</SUP>ArX; 4a–f) or 2-(4,4-dimethyl-4,5-dihydrooxazol-2-yl)-4-(4-diphenylamino)phenol (HOPh<SUP>OxZ</SUP>NPh<SUB>2</SUB>; 4g). A systematic change in the electronic structures is achieved in these compounds by incorporating electron-withdrawing (EW) and -donating (ED) groups [ArX (X = 4-cyano-, 2,4-difluoro-, 4-chloro-, phenyl, 4-methoxy-, and 4-dimethylaminophenyl) or NPh<SUB>2</SUB>] at the 4-position of the phenoxide. The absorption and emission maxima of the ED groups show a significant red-shift compared to those observed in the EW groups. This red-shift suggests that π-conjugation is effectively extended over the arylphenoxides and oxazoline moiety once the boron center has been plugged into the corresponding ligands. The gradual decrease observed in the bandgaps on going from EW to ED groups is found to be in agreement with the increase in oxidation potentials determined by the cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments. In particular, a Hammet plot between the EW and ED substituents and oxidation potentials confirms the ground state electronic perturbation. Such alterations are attributed mainly to an elevation of the energy levels of the HOMOs), as further confirmed by a series of theoretical calculations on the frontier orbitals of each system. The ED group (-NPh<SUB>2</SUB>) substituted compound 5g shows a bipolar character due to intramolecular charge transfer in the complex, with the highest photoluminescence quantum yield being obtained in toluene. This new boron complex was found to function as an emitter in electroluminescence (EL) devices, with a maximum brightness of 2905 cd/m<SUP>2</SUP> at 13 V and a current efficiency of 1.63 cd/A at 6 mA/cm<SUP>2</SUP>, with a turn-on voltage of 4.3 V.(© Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
