During the last several decades, although there have been lots of efforts to develope the high-frequency bottom reflection loss model, the frequency dependence of bottom loss was not considered in most cases because the sea bottom was assumed to be generally much smoother and lower gradient than the sea surface. However, if the sea bottom is rougher than acoustic wavelength, the scattered field will be increased and the reflected field will be decreased. In this paper, the high-frequency bottom reflection losses were obtained through the measurement of reflected waves from the artificially-made-flat sandy bottom. The experimental data were compared with the values calculated by the forward loss model of Mourad & Jackson. Conseouently, we suggest the frequency dependence of bottom reflection loss. 기존 해저면 반사손실 모델들은 해저면을 해수면에 비해 거칠기와 경사도가 매우 평탄하거나 완만한 경계면으로 가정하므로 주파수에 따른변화를 고려하지 않거나 미약하다고 가정하였다. 그러나 고주파를 사용하는 소오나 시스템의 경우, 음파의 파장에 비해 해저면이 거칠다면 음파는 산란 영향이 증가하게 되므로 상대적으로 반사손실 또한 증가하게 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 임의로 모의된 사질 성분의 해저면에서 수십 ㎑ 이상의 고주파들을 사용하여 주파수별 반사손실을 계산하고, 이를 기존의 해저면 반사손실 모델과 비교하였으며, 해저면 반사손실의 주파수 종속성을 제시하고자 한다.
Choroidal Ischemia and Serous Macular Detachment Associated with Severe Postoperative Pain

To report the association of a unilateral serous macular detachment with severe postoperative pain. A 71-year-old woman presented with a sudden decrease in vision in the right eye, seven days after a total knee replacement arthroplasty. The patient`s history was unremarkable except for a severe pain greater than the visual analog scale of 8 points for about 2 days after surgery. Retinal examination showed a well differentiated serous detachment that was about 3.5 disc diameter in size and located in the macular area. Fluorecein angiography and indocyanine green angiography showed delayed perfusion of the choriocapillaris without leakage points in the early phase and persistent hypofluorescence with pooling of dye in the subretinal space in the late phase. There was a spontaneous resolution of the serous detachment and the choroidal changes with residual pigment epithelial changes. Severe postoperative pain may influence the sympathetic activity and introduce an ischemic injury with a focal, choroidal vascular compromise and secondary dysfunction of overlying RPE cells in select patients.
Gold nanostar-mediated neural activity control using plasmonic photothermal effects

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Nanomaterials have emerged as an essential tool for the understanding of cellular level mechanism in the fields of biology and medical science. Recently, researchers have been studying the regulation of neuronal activity using plasmonic nanoparticles and light, and it has been reported that photothermal effects could lead to both excitation and inhibition of neuronal cells. So far, only a few photothermal transducers have been applied to modulate neural activity. In this paper, we synthesized biocompatible gold nanostars (AuNSs) which generate heat by absorbing near-infrared (NIR) light. And we used the AuNS to inhibit the activity of neurons through light stimulation. We have demonstrated that AuNS inhibits the neural activity by NIR laser in both chip-attached mode and cell-attached mode. We also confirmed the suppression of single neuron signal by using digital micromirror device (DMD) set up. This approach is possible to inhibit the neural firing by controlling the intensity of light, and overcome the disadvantages of conventional electrochemical stimulation methods. This method of NIR-mediated stimulating neurons using light sensitive AuNS will be a powerful tool for neuromodulation researches and neuroscience studies.</P>

Holt-Oram Syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the association of upper-limb abnormalities and congenital heart disease. A woman with no family history of genetic disease underwent antenatal sonography at 27 weeks' menstrual age to screen for fetal anomalies. Ultrasonography revealed abnormalities in the upper limbs. The limb abnormalities included abscence of bilateral thumbs and radius: the left humus was short. Pregnancy termination was performed. The postnatal chromosomal analysis revealed a normal 46XX karyotype and the autopsy finding confirmed the Holt-Oram syndrome. We report a case of Holt-Oram Syndrome in fetus with unaffected parents with brief of the literatures.

Background: Specific IgE responses to allergens provide useful models for evaluating the ge- netic factors that control human immune responses. HLA class II gene products are involved in the antigen presentation of exogenous antigens. Objective : The aim of this study was to evaluate whether susceptibility or resistance to asthma induced by the citrus red mite (Panonychus citri, CRM) was associated with HLA class II gene-encoded antigens. Methods : Peripheral venous blood samples were collected from two groups of unrelated Kore- an adults. Ninety-one patients with citrus red mite-induced asthma and 98 exposed, healthy control subjects. The second exon of the HLA-DRB1 genes was selectively amplified by the polymerase chain reaction method. HLA typing was carried out using PCR-sequence specific oli- gonucleotide probes(PCR-SSOP). Results : The frequency of HLA-DR7 was significantly higher among the CRM-sensitive asthmatics than among the controls (17.6% vs 4.1%, RR=3.92, p=0.01). Conversely, the frequ- ency of HLA-DR4 was significantly lower among the CRM-sensitive asthmatics than among the controls(19.8% vs 40.8%, RR=0.36, p=0.01). No significant difference was found in the distributions of the other HLA-DRB1 gene-encoded antigens between the two groups. Conclusion : HLA-DRB1 genes may be involved in the development of citrus red mite-induced asthma. In addition, HLA-DR7 may increase, and DR4 decrease, the risk of developing asthma in exposed individuals.
The double-barrier technique using platelet-rich fibrin for closure of oroantral fistulas

An oroantral fistula (OAF) or oroantral communication (OAC) is an opening between the oral cavity and the maxillary sinus. If left untreated, these openings may cause chronic maxillary sinusitis. Although small defects (diameter <5 mm) may close spontaneously, larger communications require surgical intervention. Various studies have been conducted on OAC closure using a platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) membrane; most of these prior studies have involved simple direct application of PRF clots. This study introduces a new “double-barrier technique” using PRF for closure of an OAF involving sinus mucosal lifting and closure. The PRF material is inserted into the prepared maxillary sinus space, and the buccal advancement flap covers the oral side. This technique was successfully used to treat two patients with chronic OAF in the posterior maxillary region after implant removal or tooth extraction. The use of a PRF membrane in a double-barrier technique may have advantages in soft-tissue healing and could enable easy closure of chronic OAF with minimal trauma.
