This work was conducted to study the distribution of velocity field in the inlet region of evaporator for automobile HVAC(Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning). By experimental and numerical simulation method, we found out that the installation position of evaporator in cool air blowing system had optimal value. Also, the porous media assumption of evaporator in computational domain assured to valid when compared with experimental results. Finally, the diffusing scroll which proved to be very efficient and silent by experimentally.
소아에서 Fogarty 카테터를 이용한 일측폐 환기 마취 경험

Thoracic surgery may be greatly facilitated by causing selective atelectasis of the lung being operated on (one-lung ventilation anesthesia). But the tube used for one-lung ventilation is greater outer diameter than conventional endotracheal tube when compare to each other with same inner diameter, so in some young children it is impossible to one-lung ventilation using double lumen tube or bronchial blocker tube because of narrow vocal cord. We performed one lung ventilation anesthesia using conventional endotracheal tube and Fogarty catheter as a bronchial blocker in 11-year old women who received lung biopsy surgery and left lower lobectomy.

The present study was carried out to investigate the potential acute toxicity of safflower seed by a single oral dose in ICR mice. Twenty animals of each sex were randomly assigned to four groups of 5 rats each and were administered singly by gavage at dose levels of 0, and 2,500 mg/kg bodyweight. Mortalities, clinical findings, and body weight changes were found and complete gross postmortem examinations were performed. Throughout the study period, no treatment-related deaths were observed. There were no adverse effects in clinical signs, body weight, and gross findings at any dose tested. The results showed that the single oral administration of safflower seed did not cause any toxic effect at the dose levels of 2,500 mg/kg in rats and the minimal lethal dose was considered to be over 2,500 mg/kg body weight for both sexes.

Benzodiazepines are frequently administered for sedation to surgical intensive care unit patients who require postoperative intubation and mechanical ventilation. Midazolam is the most commonly used drug, which is water soluble, short-acting benzodiazepine and rapidly metabolized by the liver. Continuous intravenous infusion of midazolam was administered to the man who was 40 years old for mechanical ventilation in the intensive care unit for 58 hours. After discontinued midazolam, patient who had acute hepatic dysfunction had been sedated with endotracheal intubation for 5 days. Even flumazenil was tried twice to reverse the effect of midazolam, the response was limited by the time. Finally he awaked as recovery of his hepatic function. (Korean J Anesthesiol 2006; 51: 363~6)

수은은 매우 독특한 특성을 가지고 있어 산업현장에서 매우 다양하게 사용되며, 대기, 토양 및 수생환경으로 배출 될 시 독성이 사라지지 않고 생물 내에서 계속 축적되어 먹이사슬의 최상위 포식자인 인간에게 섭취되게 된다. 우리나라는 OECD 회원국 중 9번째로 수은 배출량이 높으며, 대부분의 수은폐기물은 다른 폐기물들과 함께 섞여 개발된 공간(수은을 폐기하기 위한 적재 공간)에 폐기되거나, 소각하는 등의 방법으로 처리하고 있어 친환경적이지 못하다. 이에 본 연구는 수은폐기물의 친환경적 관리를 위하여 수은폐기물의 분류방법과 관리방안을 제시하고자 하였으며, 연구결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었을 수 있다. 수은정제과정에서 오염물질에 의한 피해가 발생하지 않도록 관리·감독 기준을 강화해야 한다. 그리고 수은폐기물의 저장 용량을 충분히 확충하여 사용하지 않은 수은을 저장하고 환경오염 우려가 없는 재사용 비율을 높여야 한다. Mercury has very peculiar property and can be used in a variety of way at industrial sites. Even when emitting to air, soil, and aquatic environment, its toxiccomponents never disappear. It continues to cumulate inside living things and ends up being taken by apex predators, humans. Most of the mercury-containing waste are being thrown out or incinerated at the developed space with other wastes, which is not an environment- friendly way. This study suggests the method of classifying and managing mercury-containing wastes in an environment-friendly way. Results are as follows. First, supervision and management standards should be intensified to prevent damage from polluted materials during the process of purifying mercury. Second, the storage capacity of the facility handling unused mercury should be expanded and the rate of reuse should be increased to prevent pollution from mercury-containing wastes.

In the present study, the influence of atomic ratio of Zr to Ti on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Ni–Cu–Zr–Ti–Si–Sn alloys is investigated. The alloys were designed by fine replacement of Ti for Zr from Ni39Cu20Zr36−xTixSi2Sn3. Theincrease of Ti content enhances glass forming ability of the alloy by suppression of formation of (Ni, Cu)10(Zr, Ti)7 phaseduring solidification. With further increasing Ti content up to 24 at.%, the B2 phase is introduced in the amorphous matrixwith a small amount of B19′ phase from alloy melt. The bulk metallic glass composite containing B2 phase with a volumefraction of ~ 10 vol% exhibits higher fracture strength (~ 2.5 GPa) than that of monolithic bulk metallic glass (~ 2.3 GPa). This improvement is associated to the individual mechanical characteristics of the B2 phase and amorphous matrix. The B2phase exhibits higher hardness and modulus than those of amorphous matrix as well as effective stress accommodation upto the higher stress level than the yield strength of amorphous matrix. The large stress accommodation capacity of the hardB2 phase plays an important factor to improve the mechanical properties of in situ Ni-based bulk metallic glass composites.
Neuroprotective Effects of Berberine in Neurodegeneration Model Rats Induced by Ibotenic Acid

Berberine, an isoquinoline alkaloid found in Coptidis Rhizoma(goldenthread) extract, has multiple pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anti-ischemic effects. In the present study, we examined the effects of berberine on neuronal survival and differentiation in a hippocampal precursor cell line and in the memory deficient rat model. Berberine increased in a dose dependent manner the survival of hippocampal precursor cells as well as differentiated cells. In addition, berberine promoted neuronal differentiation of hippocampal precursor cells. In the memory deficient rat model induced by stereotaxic injection of ibotenic acid into entorhinal cortex(Ibo model), hippocampal cells were increased about 2.7 fold in the pyramidal layer of CA1 region and about 2 fold in the dentate gyrus by administration of berberine after 2 weeks of ibotenic acid injection. Furthermore, neuronal cells immunoreactive to calbindin were increased in the hippocampus and entorhinal cortex area by administration of berberine. Taken together, these results suggest that berberine has neuroprotective effect in the Ibo model rat brain by promoting the neuronal survival and differentiation.
