대학생의 가족건강성, 자아탄력성과 우울의 관계에서 적극적 스트레스 대처의 매개효과 = (The) Mediation Effect of College Students Stress Coping Style on the Relationship Among Family Strengths, Ego-Resilience and Depression.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구에서는 대학생의 가족건강성과 자아탄력성 및 우울사이에서 적극적인 스트레스 대처가 어떤 역할을 하는지를 알아보자 하였다. 이를 위해 대학생 600명을 대상으로 가족건강성 척도, 자아탄력성 척도, 스트레스 대처 척도, 우울 척도를 실시하여 가족건강성과 자아탄력성의 매개변인으로서 적극적인 스트레스 대처의 역할을 확인하였다.
본 연구의 결과와 논의는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 구조방정식 모형 검증 결과 가족건강성과 자아탄력성은 우울에 각각 직접적으로 부적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 대학생들이 지지적이고 유대감이 강한 가족 분위기를 경험하거나 역경 속에서도 긍정적인 시각으로 유연하게 대처하며 자기를 통제할 수 있을 때 우울을 적게 경험함을 의미한다.
둘째, 가족건강성과 자아탄력성은 스트레스 대처에 직접적인 정적 영향을 미쳤다. 건강한 가족, 건강한 자아를 가진 대학생일수록 문제 상황에서 보다 적극적인 대처행동을 하는 것이다.
다음으로, 가족건강성과 자아탄력성이 적극적인 스트레스 대처를 통해 우울에 미치는 간접효과는 나타나지 않았다. 적극적인 스트레스 대처가 우울에 부적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 적극적인 스트레스 대처가 우울을 감소시키는데 영향을 미치기는 하지만, 적극적인 스트레스 대처의 매개효과는 유의하지 않았다. 이러한 연구는 스트레스 대처의 매개효과를 강조한 기존의 연구들(Lazarus & Forkman, 1984; 공수자, 이은희, 2006; 조성은, 오경자, 2007)과는 서로 상반된다. 그러나 본 연구의 결과만으로 스트레스 대처의 매개효과가 없다고 단정지을 수는 없다. 오히려 가족건강성과 자아탄력성의 개념 안에 이미 적극적인 스트레스 대처가 포함되어 있을 가능성과 스트레스의 강도에 따라 스트레스 대처 행동이 미치는 영향이 다를 가능성을 생각해 볼 수 있다. 이 밖에 본 연구의 제한점과 후속 연구를 위한 제언, 의의를 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examined the mediation effect of stress coping style on the relationships among family strengths, ego-resilience and depression in college students. The research packet, which includes was the Family Strengths Scale, Ego-Resiliency Scale, Way of Coping Checklist and Korea-Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale, completed by 600 students. Structural equation modeling was conducted to investigate the mediation effect of stress coping style.
The results showed that the direct effects of family strength and ego-resilience on depression. The mediation effect of stress coping style on these three variables was also found. These results means those who got high scores in family strengths and ego-resilience tend to use more active stress coping style, and experience less depression. However, compared with the full mediation model of stress coping style, effects of stress coping on depression was decreased in partial mediation model. This result implies that family strengths and ego-resilience have direct effect on depression, so that the path coefficient of stress coping style to depression may be decreased. The SEM results showed that the fit indexes of two models were similar, but the partial mediation model had slightly stronger explanation power. However, the mediation effect of stress coping style was not significant in the partial mediation model. Considering this, it seems hard to conclude that which mediation model is more appropriate.
These results suggest that intervention to improve family strengths and ego-resilience is needed for psychological adjustment in counseling. In addition, active stress coping skill training is also important to promote psychological well-being. The implications and limitations of this study are discussed.
