진로탐색 프로그램이 정신지체 학생의 사회적응력 및 자아존중감에 미치는 영향 = The Effects of Career Exploration Program on Social Adaptive Abilitys and Self-Esteem of Students with Mental Retardation

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of career exploration program on the social adaptive abilitys and the self-esteem of students with mental retardation. The research questions of this study were as follows: Firstly, how does career exploration program affect the social adaptive abilitys of students with mental retardation? Secondly, how does career exploration program affect the self-esteem of students with mental retardation? The major findings of this study showed that career exploration program had positive effects on improving the self-esteem of students with mental retardation. It was identified that career exploration program improved the students' social adaptability by giving them the opportunity to obtain suitable skills for various social situations through career exploration program. It was verified that career exploration program had significant positive effects on improving the students' self-esteem, especially when they are with their peers. The previous studies about the effects of career exploration program had mostly examined whether the program improved the self-concept and the career maturity of non-disabled students and disabled students who had no cognitive deficits but had sensory disabilities or physical disabilities. However, in comparison with the previous studies, this study has advantages in that this study verified the effects of career exploration program on improving the self-esteem and the social adaptive behaviors of multiple handicapped students who had mental retardation. For future research, this study can be a theoretical basis in developing a career exploration program for the mentally retarded students who have social adaptability deficits.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 진로탐색 프로그램을 통해 정신지체 학생의 사회적응력 및 자아 존중감에 미치는 효과를 알아보는 것이다. 이를 위하여 선정된 연구 문제는 첫째, 진로탐색 프로그램은 정신지체 학생의 사회 적응력에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가? 둘째, 진로탐색 프로그램은 정신지체 학생의 자아존중감에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가? 연구문제에 따른 결과는 진로탐색 프로그램이 정신지체 학생의 사회 적응력에 긍정적인 효과가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 진로탐색 프로그램을 통하여 상황에 적합한 기능을 습득하게 함으로써, 인지적 결함을 가진 정신지체 학생에게도 사회 적응력을 향상 시킬 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 진로탐색 프로그램이 정신지체 학생의 자아 존중감을 향상 시키고 그 중에서도 동료 간 자아존중감을 긍정적으로 변화시키는데 유의한 효과가 있음을 검증하였다. 지금까지 진로탐색 프로그램의 효과에 대한 대부분의 선행연구들은 일반학생과 인지적인 손상이 없는 감각장애와 지체장애 학생들을 대상으로 자아개념과 진로성숙도의 변화를 측정하여 연구하고 있다. 그러나 본 연구에서는 정신지체를 수반한 중복장애 학생들을 대상으로 사회 적응력과 자아존중감에 대한 효과를 검증할 수 있음을 확인했다는데 의의가 있다. 앞으로 평균 이하의 지적 능력과 사회 적응 기능의 결함을 나타내는 정신지체 학생을 위한 진로탐색 프로그램을 개발할 때 본 연구의 결과가 이론적인 기초가 될 것이다.
