      • An Image Spatial Domain Steganography Algorithm with High Payload, Commendable Perceptual Quality and High Statistical Un-detectability

        The Octonary PVD algorithm is the method that simultaneously achieves three contradicting objectives, high payload, commendable perceptual quality and high statistical un-detectability. However, the Octonary PVD algorithm has a major defect that it does not embed the secret data in the optimum locations because it does not consider the use of different pixel groups will have different effects on the statistical undetectability and payload of the stego image in the process of embedding. In view of the above problem, an improved steganography is proposed. An improved objective function which is used by the PSO module is defined at first in this proposed method. Then, an improved data hiding scheme is proposed. The proposed algorithm is an improved method based on the Octonary PVD algorithm, and the improved objective function which be used by the PSO module is set in such a way that both perceptual quality and statistical un-detectability are considered. This proposed algorithm has high statistical un-detectability and high payload with commendable visual quality. An extensive experimental evaluation has demonstrated the excellent performance of the proposed algorithm compared with other existing image spatial domain steganography algorithms.

      • An Image Steganography Algorithm based on the Quantitative Features of Higher Order Local Model

        HUGO is the content-based adaptive steganography method for spatial images which can approximately preserve the joint statistic of differences between up to four neighboring pixels in four different directions. But the steganalysis method based on the higher order local model can fail HUGO. In view of the above problem, an improved steganography is proposed. Firstly, by analyzing the higher order local model, the distortion function is defined based on the quantitative MINMAX features. Then, combined with the theoretical framework of the Gibbs construction in steganography, the improved image steganography algorithm is proposed. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can not only resist the detection of the steganalysis method based on the quantitative MINMAX features , but also resist the detection of the steganalysis method based on the hybrid quantitative MINMAX features.

        Catalytic dry oxidation of aniline, benzene, and pyridine adsorbed on a CuO doped activated carbon

        Adsorption of aniline, benzene and pyridine from water on a copper oxide doped activated carbon (CuO/ AC) at 30℃ and oxidation behavior of the adsorbed pollutants over CuO/AC in a temperature range up to 500℃ are investigated in TG and tubular-reactor/MS systems. Results show that the AC has little activity towards oxidation of the pollutants and CuO is the active oxidation site. Oxidation of aniline occurs at 231-349℃ and yields mainly CO2, H2O and N2. Oxidation of pyridine occurs at a narrower temperature range, 255-309℃, after a significant amount of desorption starting at 150℃. Benzene desorbs at temperatures as low as 105℃ and shows no sign of oxidation. The result suggests that adsorption-catalytic dry oxidation is suitable only for the strongly adsorbed pollutants. Oxidation temperatures of CuO/AC for organic pollutants are higher than 200℃ and pollutants desorbing easily at temperatures below 200℃ cannot be treated by the method.

        Anterior Transarticular Crossing Screw Fixation for Atlantoaxial Joint Instability: A Biomechanical Study

        Objective: To evaluate the biomechanical stability of anterior transarticular crossing screw (ATCS) and compare it with anterior transarticular screw (ATS) which may provide basic evidence for clinical application. Methods: Eight human fresh cadaveric specimens (occiput-C4) were tested with 5 conditions including the intact status, the injury status (type II odontoid fracture), the injury+ATS fixation status (traditional bilateral ATS fixation); the injury+unilateral ATCS fixation status; and the injury+bilateral ATCS fixation status. Specimens were applied to a pure moment of 1.5 Nm in flexion-extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation, respectively. The range of motions (ROMs) and the neutral zones (NZs) of C1 to C2 segment were calculated and compared between 5 status. Results: ATS and ATCS fixations significantly reduced the motions in all directions when compared with the intact and injury statues (p < 0.05). In flexion-extension, the ROMs of ATS, unilateral ATCS, and bilateral ATCS were 4.7° ± 2.5°, 4.1° ± 1.9°, and 3.2° ± 1.2°, respectively. Bilateral ATCS resulted in a significant decrease in ROM in flexion-extension when compared with ATS and unilateral ATCS (p = 0.035 and p = 0.023). In lateral bending and axial rotation, there was no significant difference in ROM between the 3 fixations (p > 0.05). Three fixations resulted in similar NZs in all directions (p > 0.05). Conclusion: ATCS is a biomechanically effective alternative or supplemental method for atlantoaxial instability

        MgO nanosheets with N-doped carbon coating for the efficient visible-light photocatalysis

        MgO nanosheets with N-doped carbon coating (MgO@N-C) were fabricated for the enhancedphotocatalytic degradation of dyes (methylene blue, methyl violet, and Rhodamine B) and antibiotics(ciprofloxacin and tetracycline hydrochloride) in visible light region. The effects of N-doping content,reactant concentration, pH value, and inorganic ions on the photocatalytic performance in degradation ofmethylene blue were investigated in this work. Narrow band gap energy and heterojunction interfaceendowed the extended light-harvesting capacity to visible light region and the efficient charge transfer,leading to the excellent photocatalytic activity and durability of MgO@N-C-3 with N-doping content of 1.52%.

        Solution-Processable Deep Red-Emitting Supramolecular Phosphorescent Polymer with Novel Iridium Complex for Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

        A novel bis(dibenzo-24-crown-8)-functionalized iridium complex with anemission peak at 665 nm was synthesized. Several deep red-emittingsupramolecualr phosphorescent polymers (SPPs) as a class of solutionprocessableelectroluminescent (EL) emitters were formed by utilizing theefficient non-bonding self-assembly between the resulting iridium complexand bis(dibenzylammonium)-tethered monomers. These SPPs show anintrinsic glass transition with a Tg of ca. 90 °C. The photophysical andelectroluminescent properties are strongly dependent on the hosts’ structuresof the supramolecular phosphorescent polymers. The polymer light-emittingdiode based on SPP3 displayed a maximal external quantum efficiency(EQE) of 2.14% ph·el−1 and the Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage(CIE) coordinates of (0.70, 0.29).

        Strain Rate Effects on the Mechanical Properties of an AlCoCrFeNi High-Entropy Alloy

        The efect of strain rate on the compressive properties of an AlCoCrFeNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) was investigated. Microstructure of the AlCoCrFeNi HEA was observed using scanning transmission microscopy (SEM) and transmission electronmicroscopy. The results showed formation of a homogeneous two-phase structure. Quasi-static compression was testedunder initial engineering strain rates between 10–4 and 10–2 s−1. Engineering compression stress of exceeding 2500 MPaand ductility of around 12% was achieved. Dynamic mechanical behavior at room temperature was characterized by a splitHopkinson pressure bar under strain rates between 1350 and 4000 s−1. The AlCoCrFeNi HEA exhibited high strain ratesensitivity, especially under dynamic compression. The fuctuation of yield strength and the variation of strain rate hardening with strain rate was investigated. The various parameters of a constitutive equation for deformation of the AlCoCrFeNiHEA were obtained from the experimental data. The constitutive equations can be applied to predict the strength of alloyunder various stain rates.

        Culture-Positive Spontaneous Ascitic Infection in Patients with Acute Decompensated Cirrhosis: Multidrug-Resistant Pathogens and Antibiotic Strategies

        Purpose: This study investigated multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens and antibiotic strategies of culture-positive spontaneousascitic infection (SAI) in patients with acute decompensated cirrhosis. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 432 acute decompensated cirrhotic patients with culture-positive SAI from11 teaching hospitals in China (January 2012 to May 2018). A Cox proportional hazards model analysis was conducted to identifyindependent predictors of 28-day mortality. Results: A total of 455 strains were isolated from 432 ascitic culture samples. Gram-negative bacteria (GNB), gram-positive bacteria(GPB), and fungi caused 52.3, 45.5, and 2.2% of all SAI episodes, respectively. Episodes were classified as nosocomial (41.2%), healthcare-related (34.7%), and community-acquired (24.1%). Escherichia coli (13.4%) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (2.4%) were extendedspectrumβ-lactamase producing isolates. The prevalence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus was 1.1%. Ceftazidime,cefepime, aztreonam, and amikacin were recommended as first-line antibiotics agents for non-MDR GNB infections; piperacillin/tazobactam and carbapenems for MDR GNB in community-acquired and healthcare-related or nosocomial infections, respectively;and vancomycin or linezolid for GPB infections, regardless of drug-resistance status. Multivariate analysis revealed days ofhospital stay before SAI, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, white blood cell count, alanine aminotransferase, serum creatinine concentration,total bilirubin, and international normalized ratio as key independent predictors of 28-day mortality. Conclusion: MDR pathogens and antibiotic strategies were identified in patients with acute decompensated cirrhosis with culture-positive SAI, which may help optimize therapy and improve clinical outcomes.

        Soybean GmAOC3 promotes plant resistance to the common cutworm by increasing the expression of genes involved in resistance and volatile substance emission in transgenic tobaccos

        The evaluation and use of endogenous soybean genes is an effective strategy to minimize the yield losses caused by insects. Allene oxide cyclase (AOC) catalyzes the most important step in the biosynthesis of jasmonate (JA), which plays a crucial role in plant defense against insects. In this study, the role of GmAOC3 in plant insect resistance was evaluated. Real-time PCR results indicate that GmAOC3 was uniquely and rapidly activated and attained peak expression in leaves after attack by the common cutworm (CCW). In insect bioassays, transgenic lines overexpressing GmAOC3 were significantly less damaged than wild-type plants, and the relative growth rate of CCW fed with leaves from transgenic lines was significantly lower than that of CCW fed with leaves from wild-type plants. Electron microscopy revealed that the density of leaf trichomes in transgenic lines overexpressing GmAOC3 was greater than that in wild-type tobacco. Several physiological and morphological indicators, including JA, phenolic content and the relative expression levels of the putrescine N-methyltransferase (PMT) and proteinase inhibitor (PI) genes, phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) activity and volatile substances, increased in the transgenic plants overexpressing GmAOC3. Our findings indicate that GmAOC3 plays an important role in soybean resistance to CCW and can be used as a resource for plant breeding.

        Polysaccharides from the Fleshy Fruits of Camellia oleifera Attenuate the Kidney Injury in High-Fat Diet/Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Mice

        The fleshy fruits of Camellia oleifera Abel are the immature fruits of C. oleifera, which are infected by Exobasidium vexans Massee and then turn to be intumescent and hollowed. They contain rich trace elements and vitamin C and are eaten directly as wild fruits in the Chinese countryside. Recent studies report that C. oleifera has anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects. The current study, for the first time, evaluates the renal protective capacity of polysaccharides from the fleshy fruits of C. oleifera (CFFP) in streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice fed high-fat diets. The diabetic mice were orally administered CFFP for 3 months to evaluate the renoprotective function of CFFP. Our results indicated that 250 mg/kg CFFP significantly alleviated diabetes-induced renal injury by decreasing serum creatine, blood urea nitrogen levels, the kidney/body weight ratio, expression of fibronectin and collagen, as well as the secretion of tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6. Additionally, 250 mg/kg CFFP could significantly ameliorate renal oxidative stress through increasing glutathione levels and lowering malondialdehyde contents. We confirmed that CFFP could exert antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and antifibrosis activities. CFFP might be a potential therapeutic agent, and the fleshy fruits of C. oleifera might be a diet therapy for diabetic patients in the future.
