Supplementation of guanidinoacetic acid and rumen-protected methionine increased growth performance and meat quality of Tan lambs

        Zhang Jian Hao,Li Hai Hai,Zhang Gui Jie,Zhang Ying Hui,Liu Bo,Huang Shuai,Guyader Jessie,Zhong Rong Zhen 아세아·태평양축산학회 2022 Animal Bioscience Vol.35 No.10

Objective: Tan lambs (n = 36, 3 mo old, 19.1±0.53 kg) were used to assess effects of dietary guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) and rumen-protected methionine (RPM) on growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and serum parameters. Methods: Lambs were randomly assigned to three treatment groups, with 6 pens per group and 2 lambs per pen. Dietary treatments were: basal diet alone (I); basal diet supplemented with 0.08% GAA+0.06% RPM (II); and basal diet supplemented with 0.08% GAA+0.08% RPM (III). Diets were provided three times a day for 90 d. Intake per pen was recorded daily and individual lamb body weight (BW) was measured monthly. Carcass traits were measured after slaughter and meat quality at the end of the experiment, blood samples were taken on a subgroup of lambs for analysis of indicators mostly related to protein metabolism. Results: Final BW and average daily gain for the first and second month, and for the entire experiment were greater in Treatment II compared to Treatment I (p<0.05), whereas feed to gain ratio was lower (p<0.05). Treatment II had the optimal dressing percentage and net meat weight proportion, as well as crude protein and intramuscular fat concentrations in muscles. Treatment II improved meat quality, as indicated by the greater water holding capacity, pH after 45 min and 48 h, and lower shear force and cooking loss. Dietary supplementation of GAA and RPM also increased the meat color a* and b* values at 24 h. Finally, Treatment II increased total protein, and serum concentrations of albumin and creatinine, but decreased serum urea nitrogen concentrations, indicating improved protein efficiency. Conclusion: In this study, 0.08% GAA+0.06% RPM supplementation improved growth performance and meat quality of Tan lambs. A ppb-Level Formaldehyde Gas Sensor Based on Rose-Like Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles Prepared Using Electrodeposition Process

        Yong Zhang,Long-Zhen Xie,Chao-Xin Yuan,Chun-Lin Zhang,Su Liu,Ying-Quan Peng,Hai-Rong Li,Miao Zhang 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2016 NANO Vol.11 No.1

In this study, rose-like nickel oxide nanoparticles (diameter of 400–500 nm) were prepared on indium tin oxide (ITO) glass substrates by a simple electrodeposition in NiSO4·6H2O solution. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used for analysis of the NiO nanoparticles. The effects of operating temperature on the sensor response and the response versus gas concentration properties of the NiO nanorose-based sensors were investigated. We determined the operating temperature of the gas sensors to be 230℃, considering the proper sensitivity and a rapid response. In addition, gas-sensing characteristics of rose-like NiO nanoparticles to formaldehyde were investigated. It was shown that the sensors exhibited good response (Rg/Ra = 3.43) properties to formaldehyde gas at 230℃, making them to be promising candidates for practical detectors to formaldehyde gas.

      • A Genetic Variant in MiR-146a Modifies Digestive System Cancer Risk: a Meta-analysis

Li, Ying-Jun,Zhang, Zhen-Yu,Mao, Ying-Ying,Jin, Ming-Juan,Jing, Fang-Yuan,Ye, Zhen-Hua,Chen, Kun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.1

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) negatively regulate gene expression and act as tumor suppressors or oncogenes in oncogenesis. The association between a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in miR-146a rs2910164 and susceptibility to digestive system cancers was inconsistent in previous studies. In this study, we conducted a literature search of PubMed to identify all relevant studies published before August 31, 2013. A total of 21 independent case-control studies were included in this updated meta-analysis with 9,558 cases and 10,614 controls. We found that the miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism was significantly associated with decreased risk of digestive system cancers in an allele model (OR=0.90, 95%CI 0.87-0.94), homozygote model (OR=0.84, 95%CI 0.77-0.91), dominant model (OR=0.90, 95%CI 0.84-0.96), and recessive model (OR=0.85, 95%CI 0.79-0.91), while in a heterozygous model (OR = 0.99, 95% CI 0.89-1.11) the association showed marginal significance. Subgroup analysis by cancer site revealed decreased risk in colorectal cancer above allele model (OR=0.90, 95%CI 0.83-0.97) and homozygote model (OR=0.85, 95%CI 0.72-1.00). Similarly, decreased cancer risk was observed when compared with allele model (OR=0.87, 95%CI 0.81-0.93) and recessive model (OR=0.81, 95%CI 0.72-0.90) in gastric cancer. When stratified by ethnicity, genotyping methods and quality score, decreased cancer risks were also observed. This current meta-analysis indicated that miR-146a rs2910164 polymorphism may decrease the susceptibility to digestive system cancers, especially in Asian populations.

      • Association Between XRCC1 Gene Polymorphisms and Risk of Glioma Development: A Meta-analysis

        Sun, Jian-Ying,Zhang, Chun-Yang,Zhang, Zhen-Jun,Dong, Yan-Fang,Zhang, An-Long,Wang, Zhi-Wei,Mei, Xiao-Long Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9

Objective: Previous studies of the association between X-ray cross-complementing group 1 (XRCC1) gene polymorphisms and the gliomas risk have yielded conflicting results, and thus a meta-analysis was performed to provide a more accurate estimation. Methods: A computerized literature search of 5 electronic databases was conducted to identify the relevant studies. Fixed or random effect models were selected based on the heterogeneity test. Publication bias was estimated using Begg's funnel plots and Egger's regression test. Results: A total of 11 studies (3,810 cases and 6,079 controls), 7 studies (2,928 cases and 5,048 controls), and 4 studies (1,461 cases and 2,593 controls) were finally included in the analyses of the association between XRCC1 Arg399Gln, Arg194Trp, and Arg280His polymorphisms and glioma risk, respectively. The pooled results showed that GlnGln carriage was associated with moderately increased risk of gliomas in Asians (GlnGln vs. ArgArg, OR=1.490, 95%CI 1.031-2.153; GlnGln/ArgGln vs. ArgArg, OR=1.321, 95%CI 1.037-1.684), whereas a marginal association was revealed in Caucasians. For the Arg194Trp polymorphism, although a significant association was shown in the homozygous genotype comparisons (TrpTrp vs. ArgArg, OR = 2.209, 95%CI 1.398-2.945), no significant link was found on subgroup analysis stratified by ethnicity. With regard to the Arg280His polymorphism, no significant association was found in each comparison. No particular study was found to significantly influence the pooled results, and no potential publication bias was detected. Conclusions: This meta-analysis suggested that the XRCC1 Arg399Gln polymorphism is moderately associated with increased risk of gliomas in Asians, while Arg194Trp and Arg280His polymorphisms demonstrated no significant influence. Due to the limited studies and the potential confounders, further studies are needed to confirm these results.

      • Meta-analysis of the Association Between GSTM1 and GSTT1 Gene Polymorphisms and Cervical Cancer

Zhang, Zhen-Yong,Jin, Xue-Ying,Wu, Rong,Wu, Li-Na,Xing, Rui,Yang, Shu-Juan,Xie, Yao Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.3

Aim: We conducted a meta-analysis to analyze the influence of GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene polymorphisms on cervical cancer risk, and explore gene-environment interactions. Methods: Identification of relevant studies was carried out through a search of Medline and the EMbase up to Oct. 2011. All case-control studies that investigated the association between GSTM1 and GSTT1 gene polymorphisms and risk of cervical cancer were included. The pooled odds ratio (OR) was used for analyses of results and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated. Results: A total of 21 case-control studies were included in the meta-analysis of GSTM1 (2,378 cases and 2,639 controls) and GSTT1 (1,229 cases and 1,223 controls) genotypes. The overall results showed that the GSTM1 null was related to an increased risk of cervical cancer (OR=1.50, 95% CI=1.21-1.85). Subgroup analysis were performed based on smoking and ethnicity. Our results showed that smokers with null GSTM1 genotype had a moderate increased risk of cervical cancer (OR=1.85, 95% CI=1.07-3.20). For the ethnicity stratification, moderate significantly increased risk of null GSTM1 genotype was found in Chinese (OR=2.12, 95% CI=1.43-3.15) and Indian populations (OR=2.07, 95% CI=1.49-2.88), but no increased risk was noted in others. Conclusion: This meta-analysis provided strong evidence that the GSTM1 genotype is associated with the development of cervical cancer, especially in smokers, and Chinese and Indian populations. However, no association was found for GSTT1 null genotype carriers.

Effects of Ca2+ ion substitution on the structure and magnetism of SrRuO3: Elusive magnetism

        Zhang Wen-Ying,Yue Cai-Xia,Zhao De-Wei,Li Guo-Ke,Ma Li,Zhen Cong-Mian,Hou Deng-Lu 한국물리학회 2020 Current Applied Physics Vol.20 No.12

SrRuO3 is an orthogonally distorted perovskite (Pbnm) structure whose ferromagnetism is often viewed as an itinerant ferromagnet. Although SrRuO3 has been studied for more than half a century, its structure, magnetism and transport properties are still poorly understood. In this paper, the structure and magnetic evolution of SrRuO3 are discussed in depth through the substitution of Ca2+ for Sr2+ at A sites. The results show that as the Ca substitution increases, the lattice constant decreases, the orthogonal distortion becomes larger, and the saturation magnetization MS, Curie temperature TC and Weiss temperature θp decrease accordingly. Eventually, the ferromagnetic SrRuO3 changes to paramagnetic CaRuO3. The critical exponent β of samples with different substitution contents was obtained by fitting the experimental results, and the value for SrRuO3 (β = 0.55) was similar to that obtained by mean field theory. However, the value increases with the substitution x of Ca, which can’t be explained by any scaling theory. The results show that the increase in the value of β is related to the magnetic disorder caused by different magnetic interactions. Analysis using the Rhodes-Wohlfarth criterion indicates that Sr1-xCaxRuO3 has both itinerant-electron and localized-electron magnetism, which is consistent with the theoretical predictions.

The solvent-free modification of butyl rubber in the medium of NaH

Ying Feng,Yan Xia Wang,Hong Qi Shao,En Hua Zhang,Zhen Wang,Jiruo Zhao 한국공업화학회 2014 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.20 No.1

A novel improved butyl rubber (PMIIR) was prepared in a solvent free process, using sodium hydride(NaH) as activating agent and maleic anhydride (MAH) as modifier by processing modificationtechnology in a conventional polymer processing equipment of an internal mixer. The structure ofproducts was characterized by 1H NMR and FT-IR. In this process, polar sodium carboxylate functionalgroup and unsaturated carbon–carbon double bonds were successfully introduced onto the chains of IIRon one step. The reaction mechanism was investigated in detail. It was found that the functionalizationexperienced two modified mechanisms: addition and substitution modified mechanisms. The reactionefficiency and content of MAH were evaluated. Polymer isolation and purification operations werereduced out due to the result of solvent free. Curing and mechanical properties of products wereinvestigated. It was found that PMIIR has greatly increased curing rate due to the incorporation of polargroup and carbon–carbon double bond.

      • The Outlier Detection Algorithm Based on Cumulative Holoentropy in Clustering Subspace

Zhang Zhong-ping,Sun Ying,Fang Chun-zhen,Wang Ying 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.8 No.10

Subspace outlier mining has a very important significance in big data analysis. To a large extent, subspace clustering algorithm has impact on the efficiency of mining outliers in subspaces. To solve the problem that CMI method selects best clustering subspaces unstably and complexly, formulas of chain rule of Cumulative Entropy, Cumulative Total Correlation and Cumulative Holoentropy were given. Cumulative Holoentropy was used to mine the best clustering subspaces on continuous data sets in which outliers were detected. Subspace outlier detection algorithm based on Cumulative Holoentropy was then proposed. Finally, the validity and scalability of proposed method were tested on real datasets and virtual datasets. Experiment shows that the efficiency of mining outliers in subspaces is enhanced by the proposed algorithm.

      • Predictive Role of ERCC1 and XPD Genetic Polymorphisms in Survival of Chinese Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients Receiving Chemotherapy

Zhang, Zhen-Yong,Tian, Xin,Wu, Rong,Liang, Yuan,Jin, Xue-Ying Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.6

Aim: There is increasing evidence that ERCC1 and XPD have roles in response to chemotherapy among patients with NSCLC, but the results are conflicting. Therefore, we conducted the present prospective study in a Chinese population. Methods: A total of 632 primary NSCLC patients were included, followed-up from May 2006 to May 2011. Polymorphisms were detected by real time PCR with TaqMan probse, using genomic DNA extracted from peripheral blood samples. The Cox regression model was used to analyze the hazard ratios (HR) for ERCC1 and XPD. Results: The median time of follow-up was 31.6 months. Our results showed the ERCC1 118 T/T(HR=1.65, 95% CI=1.17-2.43) and XPD 751 Gln/Gln genotypes (HR=1.52, 95%CI=1.04-2.08) were associated with an increased risk of death from NSCLC. Moreover, the ERCC118 T allele and XPD 751 Gln allele genotypes had a more higher risk of death from NSCLC among both ex-smokers and current smokers. Conclusion: In summary, ERCC1 and XPD gene polymorphisms might provide better prognostic predictive information for NSCLC patients in Chinese populations, with smoking possibly interacting with the genotypes.

Tea consumption is associated with a reduced risk of coronary heart disease in female but not male populations in Guangzhou, China

        Ying Chen,Yanfang Ye,Zhen Zhang,Chi Zhang,Minyu Chen,Jun Pang,Shuxian Zhou,Qiuling Xiang 한국영양학회 2019 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.13 No.5

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The association between tea consumption and risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) remains controversial. This study aimed to determine whether tea consumption has an effect on CHD risk in Chinese adults. SUBJECTS/METHODS: In this hospital-based case-control study, 267 cases of CHD and 235 non-CHD controls were enrolled. Blood samples from all cases were examined. Cardiac function indices (left ventricular ejection fraction, left ventricular end-diastolic dimension, lactate dehydrogenase, and creatine kinase of the muscle or brain type), blood lipid index (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol), and blood coagulation function indices (fibrinogen and activated partial thromboplastin time) were recorded. Tea consumption of study participants was assessed by a specifically designed questionnaire. The baseline characteristics of the study populations were recorded, and CHD-related biomarkers were detected. Differences in baseline characteristics of the study participants were examined using t-tests for continuous variables and chi-squared tests for categorical variables. Unconditional logistic regression was used to measure the association between tea and CHD. RESULTS: There were significant differences in cardiac function indices, blood lipid index, and blood coagulation indices between CHD cases and controls (P < 0.05). We found tea consumption reduced CHD risk in female participants (adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 0.484, 95% CI: 0.242-0.968, P = 0.0403). Regarding the type of tea consumed, the risk of CHD was reduced in women who drank partially fermented tea (adjusted OR = 0.210, 95% CI: 0.084-0.522, P = 0.0008). Analytic results for the amount of tea consumed per unit time showed CHD risk was reduced in women who consumed 1-2 cups of tea per day (adjusted OR = 0.291, 95% CI: 0.131-0.643, P = 0.0023). A tea-drinking frequency of > 6 days/week was beneficial for CHD prevention (adjusted OR = 0.183, 95% CI: 0.049-0.679, P = 0.0112). When analyzed according to the duration of tea consumption, the risk of CHD was reduced in participants who had been drinking tea for 10-20 years (adjusted OR = 0.360, 95% CI: 0.137-0.946, P = 0.0382). CONCLUSIONS: Tea consumption is associated with a reduced risk of CHD in female but not male populations in Guangzhou.
